Agreed! Or at least have ticker updates...In my franchise I've been wrestling with potentially adding a starter on an expiring contract (Since I've already got 4 guys signed for the next 2+ years, and I'm hoping to give the 5th spot to a rookie next year...), so I've been targetting the White Sox and Lucas Giolito, to see if they fall out of it. Looked the other day and he's been out for over a month now, and is done for the season. I had no idea.

Yes it would be nice to get more updates like that. However, I've also been playing madden recently and mlb Is far ahead in that sense. In madden I don't think there Is a way to search certain players I don't believe I get notifications when big signings or trades happen

After a 3 game sweep over division rival AZ we have finally entered the All Star break with a record of 80-18 and 23.5 games upon LA who enters the break at 55-40.

Our lineup has been producing at record levels.

Tatis after missing a year enters the break hitting .273 and a slash line of .345/.594/.938, 26 HR and 62 RBI w/ 15 SB.

Juan Soto is on a tear and ends the break hitting .301 with 42 HR and 74 RBI.
Manny Machado is hitting .327 with 34 HR and 94 RBI at the break!
Xander Bogaerts in his first year is hitting .338 with 9 HR and 58 RBI.
Matt Carpenter has been the surprise of the season hitting .309 with 26 HR and 67 RBI.
Jake Cronenworth is hitting .278 with 12 HR and 47 RBI.

From the bench David Dahl is hitting .293 with 7 HR and 20 RBI and Alfonso Rivas in a limited role (41 AB) is hitting .390 with 6 RBI.

We aren't getting much production from Nelson Cruz who's hitting .238 with 6 HR and 22 RBI. Pedro Severino has provided stability behind the plate where we were getting 0 production from Austin Nola (.164 AVG with 3 HR and 16 RBI) and Luis Campusano. Severino is hitting .245 with 5 HR and 9 RBI and has thrown out nearly every runner who's attempted to steal on him it seems like. Ha-Seong Kim fell back down to earth and ended the first half hitting .258 after being around .275-.300 most of the first few months. He has hadded 9 HR and 37 RBIs. Trent Grisham is hitting .214 with 8 HR and 27 RBI in his limited role.

Yu Darvish has been every bit the ace with a 15-2 record and 2.24 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP. Joe Musgrove is 14-1 with 2.34 ERA and 0.96 WHIP followed by Blake Snell at 11-4 with 2.88 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. Seth Lugo has been a major surprise in his first year starting as he ended the first half with an 11-1 record and 2.04 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. Lugo's only loss came on his last start of the half. Nick Martinez ended the half at 8-4 with a 2.84 ERA. Nick Martinez will have a new role heading into the second half as the team as signed SP Michael Wacha out of the FA pool who will slide into the #5 spot. With Martinez sliding into the bullpen, the team has optioned Sean Poppen (1.13 ERA in 5g and 8IP in MLB) to AAA El Paso. We have also signed FA SP Cole Hamels to a minor league deal. Hamels is set to provide pitching depth with a possible relief role in the majors.

For the bullpen, Josh Hader ended the half with 34 Saves on 35 attempts with an ERA of 1.22 and 45K in 37 IP. Robert Suarez was 2-0 with a 0.61 ERA and 1.04 WHIP out of the 8th inning spot ahead of Josh and the tandem was a force to be reckoned with. After 6 innings the game was almost always over with Steven Wilson pitching the 7th to a 1.65 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with 44K in 49 IP. Domingo Tapia has been a surprise ending the half 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. Rule 5 pick Jose Lopez in 22 IP has a 2.86 ERA and 1-1 record in his first half season in the big leagues. Tim Hill is 6-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 20 IP and Adrian Morejon who has been used as spot starter/long relief/swing man is 3-1 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. An ERA of 3.68 is the highest on a team who has been dominating the league through nearly the first 100 games.

We will be represented at the ASG by Josh Hader, Xander Bogaerts (starter), Manny Machado (Starter), Fernando Tatis Jr (starter), and Juan Soto (starter).

Snubs include Matt Carpenter, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Robert Suarez.

          2023 Washington Nationals

The Nationals (9-4) find themselves in LA immediately following their series in Washington, as a scheduling quirk did not give them a day off to compensate for travel. As for the Dodgers (8-5), they’re still favorites to win the NL West, but they don’t resemble the 106 win team from a year ago. The most obvious change is the absence of Clayton Kershaw. He is now in St. Louis on a one year deal. Another long-tenured Dodger that is gone for 2023 is Justin Turner, who is still a free agent. He showed signs of regression last season, but could be a nice addition for someone. New signings include Michael Brantley, Matt Strahm, Jose Alvarez, Seth Lugo, and Joe Barlow. This is still a dangerous team, especially offensively.

Game 1: Zach Davies vs Tyler Anderson The Dodgers would strike quickly, as Trea Turner singled and stole second to start the home half of the first. Michael Brantley would then drive him in in the next at bat. Brandon Drury would respond in the fourth with a solo shot to straightaway center to tie the game. Will Smith would lead off the bottom half of the inning by hitting a solo home run of his own. The Dodgers would add another run in the sixth, as Chris Taylor would double off of Patrick Corbin, who made his season debut and is trying to redeem himself after a horrible season last year. Early signs show that he might not fare much better this year, as he gave up another run in the seventh when Will Smith singled to score Freddie Freeman. Things went from bad to potentially dreadful in the eighth, as Brady House, the Nationals prized prospect, made a fantastic diving stop and throw to get Cody Bellinger out at first, but suffered what could be a severe shoulder injury in the process*. The Dodgers would add another run after this, as Trea Turner would drive in Jorbit Vivas. The Nationals could never really mount any offense in this one, and would lose 5-1.

*After the game it was announced that Brady House has shoulder cartilage damage and will miss 1-2 months. The Nationals are once again fortunate, as this could have been much, much worse. House will be placed on the 10-day IL for now, until a better timetable is announced. The Nationals have called up Anderson Tejeda from AAA. Tejeda had plenty of time at the Major League level last season, having been signed as a free agent during the season after Ildemaro Vargas’ season-ending injury. His defense was great, but he has a very aggressive approach at the plate. If he can be more patient he can really produce.

Game 2: Cade Cavalli vs Dustin May The Dodgers would get the lead first again, scoring two in the second on a Will Smith home run and a Cody Bellinger fielder’s choice. They would add another in the fourth on a Chris Taylor sac fly. The Nationals would finally get on the board in the seventh, when Anderson Tejeda would hit a two run shot to right in his third at bat since being called up from AAA just last night. The Dodgers responded in the bottom of the seventh when Gavin Lux hit a ground rule double and Freddie Freeman singled to score him. The Dodgers would turn it over to closer Blake Treinen in the ninth, and he would walk the first batter he faced. Gleyber Torres would make him pay by hitting a game-tying two run home run in the very next at bat. Aaron Bummer would hold the Dodgers at bay in the ninth, and in the tenth the Nats would score two runs. The first would be on a triple by pinch hitter Victor Robles. Cody Bellinger misread the ball and tried to compensate by diving, only to miss and have the ball roll all the way to the wall. Robles would then score when Yadiel Hernandez grounded out. Trevor Rosenthal would come in for the save and the game would end when Will Smith flew out to the warning track. It was quite a win for the Nationals, as the Dodgers were dominating until Dustin May exited the game in the seventh.

Game 3: Stephen Strasburg vs Julio Urias The Nationals have the honor of playing the Dodgers on Jackie Robinson day. Urias would leave in the second inning with tightness in his neck*, turning this into a bullpen game for the Dodgers. In the top of the sixth, Enrique Hernandez was hit by a pitch and had to leave the game**. The Nationals would break the scoreless deadlock in the eighth, scoring four runs via five hits (all singles) and some aggressive baserunning. Brandon Nimmo and Victor Robles each drove in a run and Brandon Drury drove in two runs on a weak fly ball that dropped in shallow right. Both runners read the ball well and were able to score. Stephen Strasburg would go eight full innings, and was looking better as the game progressed. He would finish with 8 strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs while giving up eight hits on 103 pitches. Carl Edwards Jr. would come in in the ninth and the Dodgers would mount a rally by getting a walk and two singles to score their first run. They would then bring in Michael Brantley as a pinch hitter, and the Nats would turn it over to their closer, Trevor Rosenthal. Brantley grounded out to first on the first pitch, giving the Nationals a 4-1 win.

*Julio Urias will miss 1-6 days with a neck strain
** Enrique Hernandez avoided any serious injury and is not going to miss any time.

Game Four: Mackenzie Gore vs Walker Buehler The Nationals stormed to an early 5-0 lead in the second. Brandon Drury led off the inning with a single, and advanced to second and third on consecutive wild pitches. Joey Meneses would hit a sac fly to score him. Ildmaro Vargas followed that with a single, and was followed by an Anderson Tejeda home run. Keibert Ruiz would walk in the next at bat and Brandon Nimmo would then homer. The Dodgers would get on the board in the third on a Freddie Freeman sac fly. Walker Buehler would be pulled after four innings, and Matt Strahm would enter out of the bullpen to start the fifth. The pitching change did little good, as the Nationals added another two runs when Luis Garcia hit the third two-run home run of the game. The Dodgers would counter with a two run homer of their own in the bottom of the sixth when Mookie Betts went deep following a Freddie Freeman single. The wind was really blowing out towards center all day but seemed to really pick up in these middle innings. Mackenzie Gore would leave after six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits, no walks and five strikeouts. Patrick Corbin would enter with the chance to get some low-pressure work in, and wouldn’t you know it, he gave up a home run to Joey Gallo on the very first pitch. Corbin was able to bounce back and the Nationals would give him some more insurance runs in the eighth when Drury singled, and then Joey Meneses doubled to score him. Ildemaro Vargas would double in the next at bat to score Meneses. Patrick Corbin would dodge and weave his way through trouble until two outs in the ninth, when Freddie Freeman would connect on a three run bomb to make it a 9-7 game. Mookie Betts would fly out to left for the final out, but the Dodgers sure made it interesting.

Don’t look now, but the Nationals are 12-5 leaving Los Angeles. This team has come together quickly and is playing as a whole, rather than as individuals. The guys seem to feed off of each other and the painful season of a year ago is a distant memory. They will try to keep the momentum going as they fly to Denver for three games against the 9-7 Rockies.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

In my final franchise before the next edition of The Show. Playing as The Angels and kind of went like real life as I would play a game of every series and simulate the rest. Ohtani was great 35 HR's 3.01 ERA but missed playoffs with Trout out 3 months and Rendon out 1 month. Dodgers lost to Astros in World Series. Told myself if I missed playoffs then I was trading Ohtani and assuming he won't resign with us. Would love to get Lux, Vargas and a pitcher from Dodgers for him but is that realistic? Angels making a deal with The Dodgers? Really really want Vargas.

              June 6-8: FLAGSTAFF (45-18) @ SURPRISE (29-33)
              Stadium: Surprise Stadium (Capacity: 12,658)

              June 6: Hops 6, Saguaros 3
              June 7: Hops 7, Saguaros 1
              June 8: Hops 6, Saguaros 5

Surprise, AZ (AP) - The red-hot Flagstaff Hops kept the beat rolling as they swept the defending DL champion Surprise Saguaros down in the Valley. They rallied in the first and third games to run their winning streak to 11 games.

The Hops ran their winning streak to nine games on Tuesday evening with a come from behind 6-3 victory in Surprise. Josh Ortega’s three-run eighth inning home run gave the Hops a lead that they would not relinquish as they moved 25 games over .500.

Surprise would grab the lead in the fifth inning on a Reynaldo Pulido solo home run. A Steve Mihelich RBI double in the seventh stretched their lead to 2-0 and spelled the end of the night for Shoe-Lace O’Tying.

The Hops would bat around and strike for five in the top of the eighth. The big blow was a three-run home run from Josh Ortega, his 13th, that gave Flagstaff a 4-2 lead.

Pedro Macias improved to (6-0) as he finished off the seventh and worked the eighth for the Hops. Vic Miller came on and worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 20th save. Shoe-Lace O’Tying pitched six plus innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Garry Macbeth made his debut for the Saguaros and went 6.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four and walking one. The bullpen did him no favors, allowing six runs over the final 2.1 innings between four pitchers with each allowing at least one run.

On Wednesday evening the Hops continued their winning ways as they cruised to a 7-1 victory behind a strong pitching performance from Ryan Pressley. He was aided by three home runs as the Hops ran their winning streak to ten games.

Tied at 1-1 in the sixth, the Hops took the lead on a wild pitch and RBI ground out to jump in front 3-1. Then in the eighth, Robbie Westbrook (15) and Oscar Aleman homered to put this one away. Aleman’s homer was his 11th and extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Josh Ortega’s second inning home run was his 14th and his second of the series.

Ryan Pressley (7-3) earned the win, tossing 7.1 innings and allowing one run on four hits. He struck out five and walked just one. Also Osuna and Oliver Benedict recorded the final five outs.

In the finale, the clutch Hops once again rallied, this time for a 6-5 victory. Forrest Owen homered twice, including a huge two-out, two-run blast in the seventh to send the Hops to their 11th straight win.

Art Mason homered to lead off the ballgame. Donnie Roland would add a solo shot in the second as Flagstaff opened up a 2-0 lead.

Surprise would get their offense going in the second and took the lead on a Harry Justice two-run home run. They would stretch the lead to 4-2 in the fourth on a Raynaldo Pulido solo home run.

Flagstaff would draw back to within one in the fifth on a Forrest Owen solo home run. But the Saguaros would get that back in the bottom of the sixth on a Steve Mihelich RBI blooper.

That setup the Hops for another rally. Newly acquired outfielder Jacob Anderson drove in a run with an RBI ground out. Forrest Owen would then hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot to put the Hops up 6-5.

Vic Miller came on in the ninth and tightroped his way to the save. After recording the first two outs, he gave up a singles to Reynaldo Pulido and Dan Turner, then struck out Rafael Perez to end it and pick up his 21st save.

The Hops (45-18) will now head to Utah to take on division rival St George (29-33) in a three game series to end the road trip.

Around the League: The Roswell Aliens made a couple of moves to beef up their pitching staff as they acquired 31-year-old Brian Anaya (78 OVR, C POT) from Amarillo in exchange for 29-year-old left fielder Stephan Sposato (74 OVR, C POT) and 28-year-old catcher Chet Merrifield (72 OVR, C POT). They also claimed 35-year-old starting pitcher Mitchell Long (80 OVR. B POT) off of waivers, from St. George.

Long Beach’s Steve Willis fell to (2-7) as he allowed six runs on eight hits in a 15-3 loss to San Diego. The defending ML Cy Young award winner has struggled in 2023 with an ERA of 6.09 for the last place Surf Dawgs.

San Antonio hit five home runs in a 10-2 victory over Las Vegas. Gus Woodson (6-4) tossed eight plus innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out nine and walking three.

Tucson has traded 36-year-old starting pitcher Steven Piña (79 OVR, B POT) to Austin in exchange for 23-year-old second baseman Ji-Hwan Bae (70 OVR, C POT). Piña was (2-0) with an ERA of 2.33 for the Roadrunners after going (13-11) last season with an ERA of 4.32.

Flagstaff has traded 32-year-old third baseman Leandro Lugo (84 OVR, B POT) to Albuquerque in exchange for 26-year-old centerfielder Jacob Anderson (77 OVR, B POT). Lugo just signed a five-year extension this offseason with the Hops but became expendable when they acquired David Benitez from Tucson. Anderson hit .217 with five home runs and 23 RBIs for the Mariachis last season. Lugo hit 19 home runs between Henderson and Flagstaff in 2022 while hitting .319. He was only hitting .252 with one home run and 13 RBIs in a limited role this season.

Salt Lake scored five runs in the top of the ninth to tie El Paso 9-9, then scored four in the top of the 13th to win it as they stunned the Blue Rocks 14-11. Pablo Gomes led the way for the Chukars, going 3 for 6 with a home run and five RBIs. Merton Bannerman homered twice and drove in five as Rio Rancho rallied from a 7-2 deficit to defeat Glendale 9-8.

I've only played four games of my Braves franchise (MLB 21 but I'm in the 2023 season) so far this year. Hoping that changes as the weather warms up. I'm still on the fence about getting 23. Even not playing much, I still feel really connected to the team I've built.

Finished a four-game sweep of the Brewers to get to 21-10. We're a game behind the Nationals. I decided it's time to go up to default HOF after playing on AS with the timing slider at 0/10. The extra challenge will hopefully get me going again.

We're at the trade deadline sitting at 88-20 (Mostly simmed). We don't have a lot of holes on our roster or pitching staff to make any big splashes so our only move was shoring up our weakest spot which was catcher. We added Tucker Barnhardt from the Cubs for 2 minor leaguers. Barnhardt was hitting .324 at time of acquisition and through 2 games with the club has raised it to .333.

                    2023 Washington Nationals

The Nationals (12-5) travel to Denver to take on the Rockies (9-7) in a three game series. The Rockies didn’t make much noise in the offseason, and it’s hard to blame them as they are in a very tough spot, being stuck in a division with the Dodgers and Padres. They finished last in the NL West last year and will probably be at the bottom again this year. They did sign Jorge Lopez to give their bullpen some much needed depth, but the pitching staff as a whole leaves lolmuch to be desired. The offense is decent, and well-suited to play at Coors Field, but CF Yonathan Daza is out for the year with a torn achilles and OF Randall Grichuk is out for 1-2 months with a torn finger ligament.

Game 1: Josiah Gray vs Adam Freeland This one got off to a fast start as Enrique Hernandez would hit a lead off home run. Brandon Drury nearly hit a solo home two batters later, but the wind was blowing in and the ball would ricochet off the wall for a long single. Adam Freeland would leave with an undisclosed injury after just 14 pitches*, and was replaced by Adam Gomber. The Nationals early lead would be very short-lived, as the Rockies would hit back to back home runs in the bottom of the frame. Brendan Rodgers would hit a two run shot, and CJ Cron would follow with a massive solo home run to swing the momentum back in the Rockies’ favor. Colorado would add two more in the fourth, as they would string together four singles. The Nationals were able to get a run back in the top of the fifth when Lane Thomas hit a solo HR, but the Rockies responded with yet another home run in the bottom of the inning, this one a three one laser off Kyle Finnegan by Charlie Blackmon (The 200th of his career). Josiah Gray would be responsible for two of those three runs, making him responsible for six runs in just four and a third innings of work. The Nationals would score one more run in the top of the eighth and once again the Rockies would counter with one of their own in the bottom half, but it was a moot point by this time in the game as the Rockies would cruise to a 9-3 victory.

*Kyle Freeland left with a blister on his finger and will miss 1-6 days.

Game 2: Zach Davies vs German Marquez The Nationals would jump out to an early 2-0 lead when Brandon Nimmo started the game off with a walk, followed by a Luis Garcia single. Yadiel Hernandez grounded into a double play allowing Nimmo to score. This isn’t the first time this season that Hernandez has hit into a double play while a run scores. The inning would continue though, as Brandon Drury would walk, Joey Meneses would single, and Gleyber Torres would hit an RBI single to score Drury. The Rockies responded in the top of the second when CJ Cron hit a solo home run. Just like the first game, the Rockies found ways to counter any runs the Nationals put together. In the fourth, Washington put two more on the board on Anderson Tejeda and Keibert Ruiz doubles, only to have the Rockies respond with two more runs of their own. The scoring continued in inning number five. Yadiel Hernandez and Brandon Drury both doubled to score a run, then Gleyber Torres would drive in Drury with a base hit. Each team would manufacture a run in the seventh, and Zach Davies would leave the game after 6.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 11 hits, no walks and four strikeouts. Carl Edwards Jr would come in to face the righty-dominant top of the order, who would add two more runs when CJ Cron doubled off the wall (this would complete the cycle as he hit a triple against the shift earlier in the game). Aaron Bummer would pitch the eighth, and the Rockies would continue to spray the ball around the field. They would get the bases loaded with two down and tie the game when Garrett Hampson hit an infield single. The game would head to extras, and Keibert Ruiz would single in the top of the 10th while Kyle Finnegan would hold the Rockies scoreless in the bottom half (but just barely!) to get a very close and very tough win. The Nationals finished with 8 runs on 15 hits, 6 of which were doubles. The Rockies had 7 runs on 17 hits, including a home run, two doubles and a triple. Just another game at Coors Field!

Game 3: Cade Cavalli vs Michael Baird The wind was blowing out to center at first pitch, and everyone in the stadium knew it would be a shootout to win this series. The Rockies scored first when CJ Cron doubled home Kris Bryant in the bottom of the first. This time it was the Nationals turn to counter, which they did with a solo home run by Lane Thomas in the top of the second. Brandon Nimmo would hit a two run home run and Anderson Tejeda would hit a sac fly in the third to put the Nationals up 4-1. Washington would tack on another in the fourth when Luis Garcia doubled to score Brandon Nimmo. In the bottom half of the inning, Kris Bryant would double and Washington's new nemesis, CJ Cron, would hit his third home run of the series. Two more runs in the fifth for the Nats, as they strung together three hits (two doubles). The game (and this scoring update) would start to get out of hand in the sixth when Washington added three more runs, giving them a comfortable 10-3 lead. Cade Cavalli would get through the sixth and that would be the end of his day, he finished with 6 IP, 7 hits, 3 earned runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Washington would turn to Patrick Corbin in another attempt to give him some easy work. His first inning of work was quick and easy, and the Nationals even spotted him two more runs in the top of the eighth…but for some reason Corbin seems jinxed. He would give up five runs (including back to back home runs by Ryan McMahon and Charlie Blackmon) and while it ultimately would not matter in the outcome of the game, there is major concern as Corbin was supposed to be a major contributor for the Nationals and has struggled since early 2022. Nevertheless, the Nationals would win this game 15-9 and would take the series.

It was a very high scoring series, which shouldn’t be a surprise given the pitching staffs and weather that made Coors field even more of a launching pad than it already is. The Nationals sit at 14-6 and are in first place in the NL East. They will play the second place Braves in Washington after an off day.

                      June 9-11: FLAGSTAFF (47-19) @ ST GEORGE (30-35)
Stadium: Bank of Utah Park (Capacity: 8,877)

                      June 9: Archers 7, Hops 3
                      June 10: Hops 4, Archers 2
                      June 11: Hops 6, Archers 0

St George, UT (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops saw their long winning streak come to an end, but still took two of three in St George to end their road trip (5-1).

St George ended the Hops 11-game winning streak on Friday evening with a 7-3 victory. Mario Cardona keyed the victory with a seventh inning grand slam and the Archers hit three home runs in the win.

Flagstaff grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fifth on a Phillip Choi two-run home run, his first on the year.

Sam Herzog was cruising along, allowing just two hits through five innings but he got touched up in the sixth. Neal Samuels hit a solo home run to open the inning and Jamaal McCormack hit a two-run shot to give St George the lead.

Mario Cardona then his a grand slam off of Mark Wirth in the seventh to put the Archers up 7-2. It was his sixth on the season. The Hops would get one back in the ninth, but could only manage five hits in the loss.

Sam Herzog (5-5) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six. Sam Valera allowed three runs on three hits in relief of Herzog as he left with the bases loaded and Mark Wirth gave up the grand slam to Cardona.

Lamont Lawrence pitched five strong innings for the Archers but Tom Gifford picked up the win (7-6) in relief. Lawrence only allowed two runs on four hits in his five innings of work. The Archers bullpen allowed one run on one hit over the final four innings.

The Hops bounced back on Saturday evening with a 4-2 victory over the Archers. David Benitez went 2 for 4 with a solo home run to help lead the Hops to the victory.

St George grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning with solo home runs from Chris Taylor and Victor Sixto. But that is all the offense that the Archers could manage as they had just one hit the rest of the way.

Flagstaff would score three times in the fifth to take the lead. Oscar Aleman doubled home David Benitez and Skyler Lyons lined a two-run single to center to score Owens and Aleman.

David Benitez would add a solo home run in the ninth to add some cushion. It was his eighth on the year.

Alex Farmer (6-1) pitched five innings, allowing two run son three hits, while striking out five. Sam Varela, Pedro Macias and Vic Miller pitched the final four innings, not allowing a base runner. Miller picked up his 22nd save on the year.

In the finale on Sunday afternoon, Shoe-Lace O’Tying tossed a complete game shutout to help the Hops win the series with a 6-0 victory.

Shoe-Lace O’Tying (8-2) scattered four hits and struck out eight, while walking three as he lowered his ERA to 2.56. He threw a season high 121 pitches in the complete game victory.

Josh Ortega (15,16) and Roberto Geronimo (7,8) each homered twice in the win.

Lefty Casey Pack (1-4) was saddled with the loss for St George. He only went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four.

The Hops (47-19) will now have Monday off before hosting Yuma (29-38) for the first time ever, for a two game series on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Around the League: Brian Viña went 0 for 6 with five strikeouts as the Salt Lake Chukars dropped a 5-4 extra innings decision to Fort Worth. Las Vegas’ Taguchi (9-3) allowed just one run on seven hits in five innings of work, striking out six, as the Nuggets defeated Phoenix 6-1 to get to .500 on the season.

Long Beach’s Chuck Sanchez improved to (8-2) as he tossed a solid six innings, allowing one run and striking out five, as the Surf Dawgs bested West Texas 4-1. The last-place Surf Dawgs are now (22-43). Santa Fe’s Jamaal Crosby went 2 for 5 with two home runs (17, 18) and drove in six as the Silver Bullets outlasted Austin 10-9. This game featured eight home runs, four by each team. Newly acquired Leandro Lugo went 3 for 3 with an RBI as Albuquerque defeated El Paso 6-4. Prescott’s Kelly Wolf (9-3) went 8.1 innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out nine and walking four in a 6-0 victory for the Hot Shots over the Snow Sox.

Rodney Millar homered and drove in three in Tucson’s 12-4 victory over Goodyear. Long Beach’s Steve Willis (3-7) tossed a complete game, four hit shutout, striking out 11, as the Surf Dawgs shut out West Texas 2-0. Colorado Springs got a walk off RBI single from Todd Austin in the 19th inning as they outlasted Prescott 1-0.

The May Power Rankings are out and not much has changed since mid-April.

                        1. Flagstaff Hops (47-19) (NC): The Hops are far and away the best team in the IBL in 2023. They are led by superstars Shoe-Lace O’Tying and Art Mason. Mason is the leading vote getter in the All-Star game and the leading ML MVP candidate through 65 games. This team is near the top in all offensive and pitching categories. It would take a major collapse for them to miss the post-season as they currently have a 10 1/2 game lead in the ML West.

                        2. Chandler Chiefs (44-23) (NC): This is still the best team in the Desert League that is (36-12) after a slow start in April. Stanton Brickman is still leading the way with 20 home runs and 62 RBIs to go along with a .288 average. They are currently 4th offensively and 5th pitching in the entire IBL. Carlos Vargas, Forrest Hughes and Steven Escobar are a combined (23-6). This team looks like a wagon and should easily cruise into the post-season.

                        3. Gilbert Barnstormers (39-27) (+1): The Barnstormers have arguably the best pitching staff in the IBL and probably the best closer in Geronimo Ortega. He is (1-0, 1.42) with 22 saves in 24 opportunities with 32 K’s in 25.1 innings of work. Steve Heupel is putting up MVP numbers with 22 HRs, 52 RBIs and a .355 average.

                        4. Mesa Solar Sox (39-27) (-1): The Solar Sox slipped one spot and are still a powerhouse, but are in a division with two of the best teams in the IBL. Pitching is carrying them right now with an offense that is middle of the pack. Luke Palmer (8-3, 3.19) has been a stud at the top of the rotation. Shortstop John Nichols is one of the best players in the entire IBL. He is hitting .324 with 13 home runs, 46 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

                        5. Glendale Desert Dogs (37-30) (+5): Pitching is keeping the Desert Dogs atop the DL Central. They lead the IBL in ERA, 5th in shutouts, 3rd in home runs allowed and 9th in strikeouts. Their ace Dan Moore (3-6, 4.10) is off to a rough start, but has 101 K’s. Shortstop Manuel Hernandez leads the way offensively, hitting .303 with 14 homers and 34 RBIs for a team that has been decimated by injuries so far.

                        6. Salt Lake Chukars (37-30) (+2): Maybe the surprise team in the top 10 is the Chukars. After finishing last in the Mountain League in 2022, they have been very good in 2023. Seven players have 10 or more home runs so far, led by second baseman Derek Hills who is hitting .299 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. Reliever Milo Tanana (8-1, 3.84) and closer Emmett Franco (1.13 ERA, 22 saves) have been the key cogs in a solid pitching staff.

                        7. El Paso Blue Rocks (37-29) (-1): The Blue Rocks lead the ML Central and again are a team that relies on defense and speed. They lead the league in stolen bases, third in batting average and fifth in runs scored. Brandon Gayle (30 stolen bases) and Shuheii Takahashi (20 stolen bases) lead the way for this pesky bunch.

                        8. Henderson Silver Knights (36-30) (-3): The Silver Knights early grip on the DL West has slipped a bit, but this team is still the class of the division. They are 6th in hitting and 10th in pitching and have a 2.5 game lead over Las Vegas. Sean Pressley (.372, 18 HR, 52 RBI) and Albert Zambrano (.321, 16 HR, 48 RBI) are carrying this team and both are in the MVP conversation as we near the halfway point. Rookie reliever Will Hernandez (9-3, 2 saves, 3.84 ERA) has pitched 82.0 inning out of the bullpen in 35 appearances.

                        9. Santa Fe Silver Bullets (37-30): The Silver Bullets are an offensive juggernaut, and that has kept them in the ML Central race. The lead the league in runs scored, walks and on base percentage and are second in slugging, and fourth in batting average. First Baseman Corey Barton has 22 home runs and 57 RBIs to go along with Jamaal Crosby’s 18 home runs and 43 RBIs.

                        10. Austin Fire Frogs (37-30) (-1): The Fire Frogs lead the ML East but have been slumping lately. Their starting pitching has been underwhelming and their offense is a top five unit. Luke Jordan leads the team with 18 home runs and 42 RBIs and young first baseman Hulk Hoagie is having a great sophomore season, hitting .295 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs.

                        11. San Antonio Javelinas (34-32) (+3): The hard charging defending champions have started to heat up after a slow start and now sit just 2.5 games back for Austin. Kosuke Matsui is having an MVP season, hitting .356 with 23 home runs and 65 RBIs with T.J. Hart right there with him, hitting .340 with 19 home runs and 57 RBIs.

                        12. St. George Archers (30-35) (-5): the Archers have the talent to compete for a Wild Card spot, but they are underachieving this far in 2023. They are bottom five in offense and middle of the pack with their pitching staff. First baseman Jamaal McCormack is hitting .258 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs.

                        13. Scottsdale Scorpions (34-33) (+5): The second place Scorpions are on the rise, but a Wild Card spot may be a tough ask in the Desert League with Gilbert and Mesa. Young first baseman Lee Lim leads the way offensively with 16 home runs and 57 RBIs.

                        14. San Diego Seals (33-33) (-2): The Seals have cooled off after a nice start to the season. They are 6th in pitching and 11th in hitting and still within striking distance of the Silver Knights. Matt Campbell (7-3, 4.04) leads the IBL with 107 strikeouts in 93.2 innings of work. Young Matt Mulder is hitting .309 with 11 home runs and nine stolen bases.

                        15. Surprise Saguaros (32-33) (-4): the defending DL champions have struggled out of the gate in 2023. Pitching is still very good but offensively they sit middle of the pack. Alberto Ruiz is still a force, hitting .304 with 22 home runs and 43 RBIs. Ken Hollinger is hitting .300 with 19 home runs and 52 RBIs.

                        16. Rio Rancho Owlz (31-34) (-1): The Owlz are treading water despite having two of the best starting pitchers in the ML. Rollie Flingers (6-3, 2.95) has 81 K’s and Ryne Rodriguez (7-2, 2.37) has 83 K’s to lead the team and keep them in the playoff chase.

                        17. Prescott Hot Shots (34-32) (-1): The Hot Shots have the talent to be in the playoff chase but this team looks to be underachieving so far in 2023. A balanced offensive squad and decent pitching have them hovering around .500. Starter Kelly Wolf (9-3, 3.12) has been a rock out of the fifth starter role.

                        18. Phoenix Firebirds (30-36) (+5): After a brutal start, the Firebirds are starting to play better and regain some of the form that saw them make the DL Championship series in 2022. Frank Reyna (4-2, 3.17) and Mario Escobar (6-4, 2.97) are rounding into form at the top of the rotation. Young Kenny James is hitting .327 with 10 home runs, 36 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

                        19. Las Vegas Nuggets (34-33) (+7): another team that had a brutal start, but has begun to recover in the Nuggets. Veteran Junior Lima has been a beast, hitting .337 with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs to go along with 10 stolen bases. Stanley Taguchi (9-3, 3.12) is keeping his name in the Cy Young race also.

                        20. West Texas Bison (29-36) (-3): The last place Bison may be better than their record indicates, but their pitching looks like it may be a problem. No starter has an ERA under 4.22, but Lowell Alan Pressley (5-1, 4.22) is near the top of the league in strikeouts with 80. A very solid offensive lineup with no real stars.

                        21. Tucson Roadrunners (28-39) (-8): Playing in the brutal DL East, the Roadrunners are a team that is building towards the future. They traded away third baseman David Benitez for Rodney Millar and prospects early in the season. Millar is hitting .289 with 13 home runs and 38 RBIs to lead the team.

                        22. Salt River Rafters (30-35) (-3): The Rafters are in a tough spot in a loaded division. No real stars on the team and all of their best players are over 29 years old. This team may look to unload at the deadline as it looks toward the future.

                        23. Colorado Springs Snow Sox (27-39) (+1): A playoff team in 2022 that maybe played above its potential last season. This team is bottom 10 in both hitting and pitching in 2023 and sit sin last place in a competitive ML West. This team needs starting pitching and lacks young talent all over the roster. Look for them to be sellers at the deadline.

                        24. Amarillo Honey Hunters (30-37) (-4): The worst offensive team in the league, but they are young. This is another team that may deal some vets at the deadline to bring in more young talent as they have an eye to the future.

                        25. Yuma Dust Devils (29-38) (-3): Another young team that has made strides in year two. They got off to a great start but have faded back into fourth place in the DL West. Gerolamo Torrisi (2-2, 3.09) is an absolute flame thrower and someone they should build around. Veteran Corey Law is having a very good season, hitting .323 with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs for an offensively limited team.

                        26. Fort Worth Kings (32-34) (+2): Not sure what is going on in the Metroplex, but this team looked to be one of the best in 2022 and is just lousy in 2023. Ranking in the bottom third both offensively and pitching, they are hovering around .500. Reigning ML MVP Randy Klaus has 17 home runs and 31 RBIs to lead the anemic offense. This team has a big budget so they may make some big moves at the deadline if they are still in the race.

                        27. Roswell Aliens (29-35) (+2): Another playoff team in 2022 that has struggled in 2023. Blake Pacinelli who was an MVP runner up in 2023 has struggled mightily this year hitting just .224 with 11 homers and 36 RBIs. The loss of David Lee to Gilbert in free agency hurt the staff.

                        28. Goodyear Jack Rabbits (27-38) (+2): This team has the worst pitching staff in the IBL and is only not the worst team because they have a decent offense. No starter has an ERA under 4.50 and their team ERA is over 5.50. Young shortstop Reid Hoffman is a bright spot, hitting .262 with nine home runs, 33 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

                        29. Albuquerque Mariachis (25-41) (-4): A team in a big market with a decent budget should not be this bad, right? This team is bottom ten in hitting and second worst in pitching. Youngster John Stirewalt (6-4, 4.25) is the anchor of their staff, but outside of him, things are not looking great. They could make some moves at the deadline to look towards the future.

                        30. Long Beach Surf Dawgs (23-43) (-3): Hard to explain how a team that was one of the best in 2022 is now the worst in 2023. Bottom five both in hitting and pitching, they really have no answers. 2022 DL Cy Young winner Steve Willis has struggled (3-7, 5.42) and their best offensive players are all in their mid-30’s. I doubt that they finish last by season’s end, but a playoff spot would be a miracle at this point.

I've started a spreadsheet for my Nationals franchise, including as much information as I can get for the prior 2022 season. I'm using the one JWDixon posted here: https://forums.operationsports.com/f...-features.html and the link is in my signature. It's a work in progress so there are still some Braves statistics in there, but hopefully it will provide some more insight into my own MLB universe.

So far I've completed the transactions tab (only put in major free agency signings) and draft picks, team stats up to the start of my most recent series and I've started adding the 2022 standings (have to go through each teams GM page to find the records as I totally forgot to save them before.)

Yeah buddy! It adds a whole other level to the franchise experience. I actually find myself messing around on the sheet (and adding tabs!) more often than I actually end up playing.

There were a few things that I thought I'd want to track that I haven't bothered with, and a few other things that I didn't think I'd care about, that I actually am using now. The international free agent generator was a hilariously fun time.

Oh for sure! I'm like...dang I should make one for each team...but that's not really going to be possible due to time/work constraints lol. I'm going to focus mainly on player stats/transactions/standings, but I will try to remember to do the All Star Game and Postseason as well as I regret skipping them last year.
