Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Guess I'll leave this one here before the new thread appears! I'm not going to buy '23 but I'm definitely keeping my franchise going.

      2023 Washington Nationals

      Game 1: Cade Cavalli (3-6, 4.14) vs Jordan Hicks (4-3, 3.02)
Yadiel Hernandez put the Nationals on the scoreboard in the first with a solo home run to right. The lead would be short-lived as Jace Peterson connected on a hanging curveball for a solo home run of his own. St. Louis would add on in the second when Nolan Gorman doubled, Lars Nootbaar walked and Cam Gallagher singled to score Gorman. Dylan Carlson would then ground into a fielder's choice to score Nootbaar. The Cardinals would continue their scoring in the sixth when Peterson, Goldschmidt and Gorman all doubled to put St. Louis up 5-1. That would be the end of the line for Cavalli, and Jackson Rutledge would come in and provide one inning of relief. Brandon Drury would hit a solo home run off of Genesis Cabrera in the eighth, but the Cards would respond with four of their own in the bottom half. Brendan Donovan singled, and the Nationals decided to replace Rutledge with the veteran arm of Kyle Finnegan to deal with the middle of the Cards order. Finnegan would walk Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado would single with the hit and run on to score Donovan. Nolan Gorman would then single to score Goldschmidt. Lars Nootbaar was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Cam Callagher and Dylan Carlson would each hit sac flies to make it a 9-2 game. Ryan Helsley came on with two out in the eighth and, as so often is the case, dominated to close out the game.

Game Two: Stephen Strasburg (5-5, 1.99) vs Clayton Kershaw (7-4, 2.63)
Both teams came into this one knowing that runs would be at a premium, and that scoring first could go a long way to winning the game. The Cardinals would win that race in the first when Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo home run to left. The Cards loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but Strasburg wasn’t rattled and forced Jace Peterson to hit into a double play. The momentum carried into the top of the fifth; Joey Meneses hit a solo home run for the Nationals first hit and run of the game. The Nationals kept the pressure up on both offense and defense; Gleyber Torres made a fantastic grab and jump throw to retire Dylan Carlson in the fifth and Enrique Hernandez would tee off for a solo home run in the sixth to give Washington the lead. There was more drama in the seventh; Clayton Kershaw was pulled after the sixth despite only giving up the two hits, he was replaced by James Woodford. Brandon Drury hit a lead off double and Joey Meneses followed with a single, but Gleyber Torres hit a 115 mph laser right to short for the first out, then pinch hitter Yadiel Hernandez struck out and Wilmer Perez grounded to first. The Nationals had another chance for insurance runs in the ninth but could not capitalize, but they were able to hold on for the win as Stephen Strasburg, Colin Poche, Carl Edwards Jr and Aaron Bummer combined for eight shutout innings. This was a big win for the Nationals, even though it is just one game in the standings.

Game Three: MacKenzie Gore (4-7, 3.80) vs Jack Flaherty (7-4, 3.00)
Jack Flaherty came out strong, striking out Brandon Nimmo to start the game before walking Luis Garcia. He would then strikeout Yadiel Hernandez, but the walk would prove costly as Brandon Drury put up a long at bat that ended with an RBI double to give the Nationals the early lead. The Nationals really forced Flaherty to use a lot of pitches in the second; Gleyber Torres started the inning by striking out on the seventh pitch, while Lane Thomas followed with a home run on a 3-1 hanger, and Keibert Ruiz worked an 11 pitch at bat that ended in a pop out. The Nationals would continue the pressure in the third as Luis Garcia led off with a double and scored on a Yadiel Hernandez base hit. As for the Cardinals, they were very aggressive early on. MacKenzie Gore only needed 15 pitches to get through the first two innings, compared to 47 for Flaherty. They would get their first hit with two down in the third when backup catcher Joel Bravo hit a line drive home run that barely cleared the fence. Tommy Edman would follow with a walk and Brendan Donovan would drive him in with a double off the wall. Gore would get out of the inning by tying up Paul Goldschmidt with a slider. Washington would score for the fourth consecutive inning after Gleyber Torres led off with a single and advanced on a pitch in the dirt that led to an error on a snap throw to first. Keibert Ruiz would then single to score him. Flaherty would continue to do a great job at limiting the damage as the Nats left two men on without scoring any more runs, and that would allow the Cardinals to mount a fantastic rally in the bottom of the fifth. Joel Bravo led the inning off with a single, Tommy Edman walked, Brendan Donovan flew out, Paul Goldschmidt hit an RBI double, Nolan Arenado was intentionally walked to load the bases, Lars Nootbaar popped out to the catcher, and Tyler O’Neill hit a grand slam to put the Cards up 7-4. MacKenzie Gore looked shell-shocked after this one, but would retire Jace Peterson to get out of the inning. He would finish the day giving up 7 runs on 7 hits, three walks (one intentional) and just one strikeout. The Cardinals would add on in the eighth, scoring two more off of Kyle Finnegan, and it looked for all the world like the Redbirds had this game in their hands. But the Nationals, looking like they were down and out, mounted a huge rally of their own in the bottom of the ninth.

Buck Farmer came into the game to finish the game with the Cardinals up 9-4. He gave up a leadoff single to Lane Thomas before striking out Keibert Ruiz for the first out. Brady House singled and Thomas went first to third, and then scored on a Brandon Nimmo sac fly. With two down and one on in the ninth, Brady House would advance to second on a passed ball, Luis Garcia singled to right to force the Cardinals to put in closer Ryan Helsley. Yadiel Hernandez would double to score House and Garcia, and Helsley would hang a slider to Brandon Drury who connected on a game tying two run home run. Carl Edwards Jr would come in to try to send the game to extras, and he nearly did; striking out Arenado and getting Nootbaar to fly out to center before Tyler O’Neill hit a two out, two strike single and Jace Peterson doubled off the wall to force a play at the plate. O’Neill’s speed was the difference and the Cardinals took the game and the series. What a roller-coast of a game for both teams, and it’s a shame that someone had to lose it, but in the end St. Louis had the last at-bat and sometimes that’s what it takes to win.

The Nationals have fallen to 31-41, which is tied for the third worst record in the NL alongside the Pirates, who have fallen from a promising start to another disappointing season. Washington is trying desperately not to follow suit, and their first chance at doing so will be with a four game series at home against San Diego. The schedule following this series is much more favorable, but only if the Nationals can figure out how to play better baseball.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Hey guys I'll be moving my Franchise over to 23. thought I could stay with 22 but waking up this morning I just couldn't contain my excitement for 23, it's like Christmas morning lol. I had to bite the bullet and buy the early access, thankfully I was only to the trade deadline. So, the Beavers will be moving over to 23.
