All star difficulty doesnt play like it used to when the show #1 focus was on offline gameplay. You need to bump it to HOF or legend.Comment

And that is 50% under input, when it has an extremely high rate of success, does a LOT to override ratings (especially command). Even with the control slider at 0 on legend, I fairly rarely miss spots using pinpoint on Simulation.

Re: The AI does not know how to be patient at the plate
just curious what hitting interface do you use?
I think you just need to pick something and stick it out. Constantly changing input methods can mess with your timing or your controller skills.
Hitting being easier or harder in a certain league is probably not what's happening. I think sometimes all of this is in our heads. We see someone say something about how this changed or whatnot and then you start to see things that aren't there.
I have not noticed any difference in hitting since the patch. Maybe it's because I haven't been looking for it. I'm not trying to invalidate people's experiences, but I think a lot of times, and this goes for every sports game, we hear what the patch is supposed to do, or not do, and then we are hyperaware of every little thing, from at-bat to even from every pitch.
I also think we need to widen our sample size. Again, not trying to invalidate anyone's opinions on any of this, it's just that some people talk about playing one or two games, or even a few innings and say something has changed. We need to give ourselves more of a sample size a lot of the time. Recency bias can be a powerful thing. As well as seeing someone else's experience, then it's in your head so again, you might be more likely to see things that aren't really there.
I've literally noticed no change whatsoever since the patch. All my games are playing out in a similar fashion as they were before the patch.Comment

I've since been accused of providing a disservice to myself and lying to people.
My experience with meter has been this breakdown of user input and player ratings holds true. I didn't speak on other methods because I don't have the experience with those that I do meter.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

My comment to Jayskywalker was that you cannot completely (100%) override player ratings on SIMULATION setting as he was alluding to, as the game isn't designed for that to happen as stated by SDS.

Having played meter pitching for years I have never thrown a perfect game or no hitter. If meter was so easy to manipulate you would have thought I would have thrown at least one no-hitter by accident. I've also never reached more than 14 or 15 strikeouts in any one game. Again, maybe I'm just terrible at this game but meter pitching is a challenge for me. I rarely hit the yellow perfect spot.Atlanta Braves

I've had games where I strikeout a bunch of hitters, but also have games where I walk a bunch, get lit up, etc...

Re: The AI does not know how to be patient at the plate
Exactly. I've also learned that just because you hit the perfect accuracy spot doesn't automatically result in a perfectly located pitch. I've lost count of how many times I've had a hanging curveball or slider get crushed on a pitch where I hit the accuracy spot perfectly. It's extremely annoying but it's also extremely realistic. So I've learned over the years that on those 0-2, 1-2 counts when I'm going for the punch out to aim outside the strike zone hoping to avoid the dreaded hanger.Atlanta Braves

Re: The AI does not know how to be patient at the plate
A few things here:
* I play using default sliders with meter pitching and am able to get realistic results. I don't dominate pitching, I don't lead the league in strikeouts, hits allowed, hr allowed, ERA, etc...In fact I'd say I average around mid-pack in all pitching categories combined
* You make it seem as though mastering the meter is simple. Its not. The meter changes speed from pitcher to pitcher based on their pitching motion and changes with the same pitcher between windup and stretch. I would say that out of an average of 130-140 pitches thrown per game, I may average 10-15% of those as perfect release/accuracy pitches.
* Even if by chance you could/did master meter pitching, you cannot 100% triumph/override player ratings. Its not possible as user input is only a part of the equation that is used to determine the outcome of any one individual pitch. The game simply isn't designed for this to happen, at least on SIMULATION play style settings
Classic pitching may be your preferred method for a simulation experience, but you're reasoning as to why those who choose meter/pinpoint pitching mechanics are "less sim" and playing an "arcade" style is full of fallacies and ignorance.
Using Classic Pitching, I aim at X location, and I expect the ball to be within Y inches of that spot Z percent of the time. When you use sliders to dial the game in, you also aim at X, hope it hits within Y inches Z percent of the time, at the same rate as me, but accounting for self imposed variables.
It doesn’t matter how well or poorly you move those sticks in time, not press the buttons in rhythm, you’ve set up the elaborate mouse trap to triggered by a set of moves instead of a button press. But you’ve gamed the system. The game is set for you to succeed or fail at your predetermined rate.
If moving a stick in a circle or pressing buttons several times in a row make you feel more engaged, it’s absolute pointless theater if you adjust sliders to affect success rate. It is the illusion of technique.
As we’ve seen here, you can decide that pitchers only try to throw strikes, so you set the accuracy way worse in order to get the same results as the person who strategically chooses when to get the batter to chase, or when he is set up to let a pitch go.
And if you found a control system that works on default settings, you should absolutely stick with it. If it makes it appropriately challenging to wear a fielders mitt on one hand and catcher’s mitt on the other to feel even more challenging, go to town.
But pretending that when you press A is less immersive that pressing A several times, is a weird *** flex you only see from baseball gamers. It’s just a complicated way to press A.Comment

Directional.
I changed from zone in 20 permanently after experimenting with directional for a few years. I just came to the conclusion that it was the best fit for my playstyle and like the more ratings based outcomes.
I also use classic pitching. But like I always say, it all comes down to each individuals playstyle and what they feel most comfortable with. There really is no wrong answer.Comment

Re: The AI does not know how to be patient at the plate
I totally understand why you deleted those last two posts and it kept me from responding so that probably saved me from saying something I shouldn't have.
I just don't understand why it bothers some people to play the game with different controls or heaven forbid adjust the sliders to get whatever outcome they wish to get.
There just no "this is the ONLY way to play the game to get REALISTIC" results like a few certain self righteous posters like to think. There's a reason that there's a ton of different controls and sliders are provided. Not everyone has the same skill level and some people don't get enjoyment playing with certain controls. It doesn't make one way "BETTER" than the others. It's just different strokes for different folks. A little respect would go a long ways here but respect went straight out the window within the first 5 posts of this thread.Atlanta Braves

Re: The AI does not know how to be patient at the plate
I can't speak to meter or the other inputs. But with Pinpoint, you can absolutely override the pitcher's control attributes. Even on the Simulation Play Style settings, walks are incredibly rare using that method on default sliders (even legend).

Thanks man so maybe u can help with directional are u suppose to aim where the ball is going or u can just aim up and hit.

Re: The AI does not know how to be patient at the plate
Walks are rare because people don’t have the patience to walk hitters. A walk can inadvertently tack on five or ten minutes to an inning and gamers are action junkies so they’d rather bang their head against the wall throwing “anything” than actually make the effort to throw the right pitch that may result in a walk. Prove me wrong.
I guess I'm weird then. If I'm not walking guys every now and then I'm doing something wrong.Atlanta Braves
