Re: The Supplication of a Once Y2Y Franchise Player

Losing Y2Y saves was as equally bad as not having the correct playoff format. I know they work hard, talk with community, and all that other jazz but it truly is disappointing and damn near inexcusable. That being said I bought 22 and will be buying '23 just for the correct playoff format. So I guess they win in the end.

Actually Y2Y saves didn't bother me as much, because I usually play season 1 and 2, the start skipping years 3,5,7 etc so I tend to get to year 6 relatively easily. I also do the play Pitcher 1, sim the rotation, play Pitcher 2, sim rotation, pitcher 3,.... method of play/simulate hybrid. By the Time I've played 162 games I'm in year 8+. Not for everybody but it works for me

I don't think it is fair to say it is inexcusable the playoff format is not in. It's disappointing yes, but there would be too much coding for it in a game that likely had already went gold as the lock out was resolved just before release. Plus the matter of how standings are calculated for the playoff would likely require restart of franchise. Imagine if you are in game 7 of the world series and that gets patched in and you have to restart. That would be inexcusable more than it not being in. Personally I think it is a sound decision on their end not to rush it in and mess more up than it would likely fix. Would rather have them take the time to make sure it is executed correctly.

Sorry that you're going through that.. and I have to say, for me, this is starting to feel like the sack of Rome/downfall of Madden. And I really don't want that.

All I'm interested in are classic/retro seasons. Its getting to the point where its nearly impossible to pull that off with Manfred ruining baseball (3 batter minimum, League wide DH, the playoff format..)

But rosters themselves... 26 teams x 40-man rosters = 1040 players. 1-AT-A-TIME. Pa-freaking-thetic!!! Just for a 40-man. Heaven forbid I actually want to run a franchise, then I have to build full rosters.

As roster building is structured today.. forget about it!.. its just too time consuming. I could literally spend more time and effort on this than I do on my job. To invest that much time.. EVERY year...

If they are content to lose this portion of their fanbase, so be it. I understand buisness. I don't have to like it, but I do understand it.

.. but having seen the way Maddens files are structured, I just don't see how roster ports are such a big deal. Its just data. Even a franchise file is just data linked to other data. Its not rocket science or quantum physics.

... anyway, just venting at this point. I really love this game. I think SDS builds a great game. '22 is the best representation of any sports game I have ever played. But its painful we're not going to be able to build any kind of foundation.

Yeah well to be quite frank I've been hearing similar lines (too much coding, need to get it right, can't patch, don't want to rush, etc.) for 5+ years and franchise mode hasn't changed at all. Now they can't even get the playoff format correct and have to remove year 2 year saves. Furthermore, unlike some people, I don't get too attached to my franchises. So if I was in the middle of one and had to restart, I'd just sim to the same point. I do recognize others may not feel the same on that point.

So yeah I find it more than fair to say it's almost inexcusable, but I understand YMMV

there's a lot here to agree with, but I would say franchise does indeed get it's changes. if I were still playing the Show from 3,4,5 years ago, I wouldn't have the extra inning rule or 3 batter minimum available. huge changes, whether or not I really liked them IRL (I don't). also being able to rebrand my team as almost a sort of expansion team, or a relocated team at least, is interesting. I don't always like the budget system but it gets a differing look from time to time and there were times it forced me to be on my toes math-wise more than I really wanted. Keep It Simple, Studio lol

but yeah, if baseball were as popular as American football or association football, I could easily see all the bells and whistles I want added, would be added, because the funding would be available.
but I finally had to grudgingly admit to myself baseball is almost a niche sport as much as tennis or hockey or hopscotch or stockcar racing

Re: The Supplication of a Once Y2Y Franchise Player

After a bit of indecisiveness, I took some time to update my rosters like I did back in '21 and previous years to include high school prospects, collegiate prospects, international prospects, and a few others (I recreate Jose Fernandez as a prospect amongst others) and am finding myself growing ever more attached to my team and engrossed in my franchise in '22 as I plug along (mid June in 2023).

I am putting myself in the mindset that '22 will be my game for the foreseeable future, as its going to be extremely difficult to start over again in '23, provided Y2Y saves do not return, which I honestly do not expect them to.

I think I was too guarded against letting myself get engrossed and attached to this franchise as a way to "ease" the frustration of having to start over again if I buy '23. But I was robbing myself of the enjoyment that this series has brought to me over the years. So I'm done with that. I'm just going to play/progress with the mindset that the franchise I'm currently playing will continue for years to come whether that be with Y2Y saves or without.

And if '23, or '24, or something along the way is compelling enough to start over, then I know that with my experience with '21 and moreso '22, that I can restart and recapture that "all in" feeling with franchise that I have every year with the MLB The Show series.
