Re: New Equipment in The Show 23
There does seem to be more emphasis on things like creating dinosaurs and monsters for their stadium creator than things related to how the game looks and plays. I know it’s a small thing but this patch that ruined the default cleats is kind of a microcosm for what’s going on. They drop this patch, it adds the new Nike cleats. Great. But they are basically uneditable, the color blocking is just not done well. They delete the older Nike cleats, which actually did look good. And the topper - they ruin the appearance of the default cleats those of us who use classic rosters use in large numbers. For no reason. Little things like the larger bases and the pickoff rules are unimplemented even though it was well known that these changes were incoming. Legacy issues with Franchise remain such as the awful AI bullpen logic. Small niceties like stat sliders and the ability to import players (think NBA 2k’s player dna feature) are nowhere to be found. SDS is gradually morphing into EA right in front of us and it’s not pleasant to watch.Comment

When it comes to equipment, I dont think they've gotten the color blocking right on ONE shoe this year. Colorblocking has been off for the evo shield batting armor since inception. Batting gloves are off. Not been able to edit logos on equipment. Its a mess
I won't argue that gameplay is top of the line. But I dont think this is because there development is that great. I think baseball is a lot easier to develop in the sense that its like a simple output for the pitcher and catcher. Then an output of where the ball goes while the fielder just has to run a straight line to the ball. NBA and NFL games have to account for different things like dynamic player movement and AI defenses.Comment

Same uniform physics and body models since ps3. I just honestly think this games development is WAY behind in all aspects.

Re: New Equipment in The Show 23
I do agree the gameplay is very good. And I also believe that’s a testament to the dev team. Notice I’m not calling them lazy, or incompetent, like some people do. I think that’s a pretty ridiculous take, I do think this group works very hard and I certainly appreciate that hard work. I’d instead argue the decision to trend more towards arcade play and less simulation is coming from above their heads. Whether it’s the decision to cling to continuing to make versions for legacy consoles or allocating more and more resources towards card collecting modes, that’s not something the devs probably have a lot of input on. But I recall just a few years ago there was a stream every spring whose purpose was to point to “the little things.”
Ya'll always straw man this "lazy" thing. I feel development is "BEHIND". That could be due to them not having enough devs, maybe they cut corners and pay inexperienced devs, maybe they're not optimizing the devs they do have... Or maybe they just have devs working on other long term things.
An no I dont think baseball is as hard to dev as basketball or football. They have a whole different level of exploits they have spend time and resources on accounting and allocating time to.
There is also no denying that their code, for franchise especially, is severely AGED. Take just the AI bullpen logic. This has been the same terrible code since like Ps3. Can't fault a consumer in what is a monopoly basically, for being upset about paying Next gen money for ps3 code.Last edited by djflock; 09-06-2023, 04:01 PM.Comment

Re: New Equipment in The Show 23
It’s a hat trick. 1. Added equipment done poorly. 2. Removed good equipment. 3. Ruined default equipment. There’s zero reason to remove equivalent. And it’s not because the manufacturer demanded they do so. Fire up NBA2k, there’s shoes from 30 years ago in there.Comment

Re: New Equipment in The Show 23
There is a reason to remove it, and that's if they just add the cleats rather than replace them, then no players in Diamond Dynasty (the main mode) would be wearing the new cleats.
Everyone is absolutely free to think that's not a good reason, but that is at least a reason.

Re: New Equipment in The Show 23
I don't think that they are removing equipment for DD. I think the more likely explanation has to do with whatever agreement they have with the brands, but I really don't know for sure.Chicago Cubs
Michigan Wolverines

This makes no sense. They not the user controls the equipment for dymond dynasty cards. So if they want to change whoevers cleats they can just do that without changing anything else and without eliminating an element.

Re: New Equipment in The Show 23
I don't think they usually change the equipment from the "base" player model for the new cards they release.

Re: New Equipment in The Show 23
With the way they remove and add cleats , I would be more inclined to believe that the ps3 era platform they use for cleats just doesn't have enough memory. I can't believe nike would demand those shoes be removed but leave in the low top nike vapor cleat that has been in the game for like 3 years. I also dont think EVERY shoe company has demanded previous years models be removed in MLB but they're okay with almost all shoes they have, since the beginning of time, be in NBA 2k.Comment
