my biggest issue is probably something that isnt even the Studios fault; its the sheer amount of players like O's closer Felix Bautista and Nats OF'er Joey Meneses, who arent "hard-coded" into the game, but are CAP models.
again, I dont believe that is something that SDS could help, but it certainly hurts the polish

If anything, some of y'all are too easy to please. It's why the game is so stagnant.

It has nothing to do with being a fan of the sport. The game is EXTREMELY stale and looks outdated. That doesn't mean it isn't polished or plays a great game of baseball.

Exactly…my love for the game of baseball is the only reason I purchased but this game is nowhere near polished in any way

I think it mostly depends on what you want from the game.
Me personally - and I know I’m not the target group they are focussing on - I just like to play a season with classic rosters.
For me ‘20 does that perfectly, a lot of classic rosters can be downloaded and it plays and looks great on my ps5.

They took out season mode so I’m forced to play franchise instead.
With y2y rosters and saves gone, no sounds of the show on the ps5 version, there’s really no reason for me to buy ‘23.
I own ‘21 and ‘22 but never play them.

Do I want all the new animations and other improvements, sure I do.
But thats not enough incentive for me to buy ‘23, since ‘20 still plays a great game of baseball.

This game really needs competition, they took a lot of the good stuff from 2k.

But as I said : I’m not (or no longer) the person they make this game for.
The money is in dd, and I understand that.

So, bit of a long answer, but I’m a big fan of baseball since 46 years who has no problem at all skipping this year’s edition.

I wish they'd just do away with real portraits and use everyones in game faces. At least then it would all match.

I’ve been saying they need to upgrade the graphics and this game needs to look next gen, but what else can they add on the gameplay side?

I will always agree with you that not only this game but all sports games need competition. MVP was my favorite baseball game and I’d love for them to comeback. This is why having one sports game on any sport is never a good idea because it doesn’t push any of them to give us better games. With that said I still think this year’s plays great. They just seriously need to update the graphics.

I really wish these companies would quit supporting last Gen and focus completely on the current consoles. It’s been 2 and a half years now since new consoles were released. They are now widely available.

You can actually force the game to do this....sort of. Starting a franchise with a fantasy draft and then backing out before any picks will retain the original roster, but change all player's "headshots" to either their facescan or CAP faces, whichever is applicable. These are seen most prominently on jumbotrons during games.

For example, here's what Nico Hoerner's jumbotron image looks like with what I described above:

Versus what it looks like normally:

(ignore the fact that it's a Cubs home game in Milwaukee, I just used AFF because it's much easier to see the jumbo)

AFAIK this change usually only occurs when a player changes teams mid-franchise - their headshot photo is replaced by a facescan/CAP to ensure the player has the correct uniform. But it also has the advantage of updating that uniform with what the team is actually wearing in that particular game (in other words, I'd get a Hoerner with a Cubs BP hat and uni if I did this in Spring Training). Starting the Fantasy Draft process seems to flag every player in the game for this kind of movement - they're expected to be moved all over the league, after all. But the fact that you can back out of the draft before actually starting makes this little trick viable for normal franchises.

The "sort of" part that I mentioned is this: This WILL NOT change the image shown on the player card (such as on a player's attribute screen). Some of those are CAP faces already, but the large majority are live-action shots of the player in real life.

For the folks who have stayed behind but like what they see here - this trick has worked on every previous MLB The Show that I can remember as well (probably ever since fantasy draft has been an option).

Both madden and nba 2k moved on and made the jumó to next gen. MLB the show should’ve been left last gen behind but for these companies it’s about selling as much as possible and reaching as many people as Possible. I think these companies also need competition.

I only play the game on all-star but damn, when pitching with runners in scoring position and I get up to a full count the game feels intense. Really feels like any mistake will be punished.

Haven’t had as much fun pitching in a long time.

I really like the color scheme and design of the menus. I think I'm mostly going to manage games this year and I'm only one game in, lost 2-1, but had a good time playing it.

It does seem like there are more strikeouts than there should be but it doesn't bother me too bad.

I probably need to play a bit more before I make a final impression but I'm liking it so far.

I agree. This is the first time, I played MLB the Show since probably the middle of the PS4 generation, and it still feels like it has the same visual art style. Not sure I it is them needing to upgrade their engine or what.

Yeah 2k and EA jumped over to next gen, but when compared to other genres, "next gen" sports games are way behind and disappointing. 2k is still canned animation dependent and Madden still have legacy issues from prior console generations, AI in sports games aren't where they need to be. I fall in that "drop last gen, and focus on current gen" group. My issue is that once we hit the middle of a console generation, we usually start hearing about hardware limitations. At this point, the next gen sports games are built off of previous generation foundation that benefits from have more features that the previous generation can't handle.

I do think more competition is needed. I miss the PS2/Xbox days of having a ton of options. But with the cost of development/licenses/resources, it isn't feasible for companies to even give it a try.

I do think this should be the last year with most of these sports games being on last gen. With PS5 becoming more available and XSX already available, I do think more companies will be willing go current gen exclusive next year.

Like I said, this is probably the first tim since middle of the PS4 generation that I played The Show. I'm renting it via Gamefly, since I'm not a baseball fan like that. But Overall, I'm enjoying the game. I'm just focusing on RTTS. After playing RTTS for about a week, RTTS probably has to be my favorite single player career modes. It doesn't have have a cheesy made for TV story line, gives me what I expect/want gameplan wise, progression seems reasonable, and my favorite thing is how fast I can get through games as a position player. I can get through games in about 5 minutes. To be able to get through over 10 games in a hour is big since I don't have a lot of time to play games. With other sports, I don't like playing shortened quarters because I like playing accurate amount of plays. With baseball, as long as I can get my 4-5 plate appearances and some fielding opportunities, I'm good. While I like not having a cheesy storyline, I do wish that there was a little more depth outside of games like interviews and stuff.

Since I haven't played this game in a long time, I didn't know how the packs stuff worked. I was wondering why I couldn't just open packs, until I went to my inventory and realized that I had a lot of unopened packs. Since I'm not playing the other modes and will probably keep this game for a month, i was able to sell all the player packs and packs I don't plan on using towards buying Perks and Equipment I want

Just won a game in one of the oddest and unthinkable fashions.

Down 1-0 to the Royals in the bottom of the 9th. Bases loaded, 2 outs, and Lars Nootbaar at the plate. He hits a pop up just on the grass and the catcher settles under it and it bounces off his glove and the tying run scores. Next batter up is Paul DeJong who draws a 5 pitch walk to walkoff the Royals.

                                Crazy
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
