I had a franchise like that a few years ago where I was either the hottest team in the league or the worst team in the league all season, no in between. It was one of the more fun ones I’ve played, going from double digits out of first place to first place and then plummeting and getting hot again

That’s exactly where I’m at. I’m in the middle of the worst team part of it now. Just lost 2 of 3 to the Nationals.

I need some help picking a team (waiting for Ridins rosters). I'm a Reds fan and usually play as them, this year being the first time in a while I'm somewhat excited about our future. I typically like younger teams that have a somewhat realistic chance of competing. I'm down to the Reds (not realistically competing this year lol), D'backs, Mariners or Marlins.

So something interesting happened today...Cade Cavalli suffered an elbow injury in my game, which was probably severe...but I had to save the game and finish after work. When I finished the game this evening, there was no mention of the injury. I don't see any way of manually editing my injured list, it's almost as if this isn't available on the Switch. Does anyone know for sure?

2023 Washington Nationals

The Nationals welcome in the Houston Astros for the only meeting between the two teams this year. The Astros are still first in the AL West, but they are missing Alex Bregman for the rest of the year with a torn ACL, and have lost Michael Brantley to free agency. They still have Justin Verlander, but he is just a shell of his former self (OVR of 69). They signed Austin Barnes in the offseason but he is also injured. JD Martinez was another offseason signing and is leading the team in batting average, but does not have the home run power of years past. Their pitching staff is still great and largely unchanged, and they are still a good team.

Game One: Framber Valdez (2-5, 3.97) vs Lucas Giolito (6-9, 3.68)
Lucas Giolito will make his Washington Nationals debut to start the second half of 2023.

Kyle Tucker started the game off with a single up the middle, and he would score on a two out double from Jose Altuve. The Nationals responded in the second; Gleyber Torres started the inning with a four pitch walk, which was followed by a single from Lane Thomas. Anderson Tejeda flew out to right, advancing Torres to third. Luis Garcia was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wilmer Perez would hit a slow ground ball to short but the Astros attempt to turn two developed too slowly and the Nationals were able to tie the game. Victor Robles would bat next and hit a soft fly ball to right that dropped for the second run of the game. Lucas Giolito would go five innings, giving up one run on five hits, walking none and striking out seven. Framber Valdez would leave in the bottom of the fifth with an apparent shoulder injury and be replaced by Christian Javier*. Houston would tie the game at 2 in the eighth when Yordan Alvarez hit a solo home run off of Carl Edwards Jr, who was in his second inning of work. The game would go into extras, and Houston had a great opportunity with the bases loaded and one out for Jose Altuve, but the Astros gambled and attempted a suicide squeeze on a pitch that was in the dirt. A simple tag at home resulted in the second out, and Altuve would walk to reload the bases, but Jeremy Peña would fly out to second to end the inning. The Nationals would pinch run CJ Abrams for Anderson Tejeda in the bottom of the tenth and he would score when lead off hitter Luis Garcia doubled down the line to right. The Nationals win, 3-2 in front of a raucous packed house who let the Astros AND the home plate ump have it, as he made several horrendous calls in the later innings that thankfully did not affect the outcome of the game.

*Framber Valdez has pulled a shoulder muscle, and may miss one start, if anything

Game Two: Luis Garcia (9-6, 2.23) vs Stephen Strasburg (8-7, 2.07)
The Nationals were able to manufacture a run in the second; Joey Meneses singled and advanced to second on a ball in the dirt that Andrew Vaughn chased for a strikeout. With two down, Gleyber Torres hit a ball to shallow left that scored Meneses. Torres was thrown out trying to get to second to end the inning. In the top of the sixth, Washington’s Luis Garcia injured his finger diving for a ball at third and had to leave the game. The initial diagnoses is that the finger is not broken but he is still in pain*. The Nationals had a great opportunity to break the game open in the sixth, as they had men on second and third with only one out, but Joey Meneses struck out, Andrew Vaughn was intentionally walked, and Lane Thomas struck out. This would prove costly as the Astros tied the game in the seventh following a double from Jose Altuve and
a single from Pedro Leon. The Astros would bring in lefty Blake Taylor from the pen for the seventh, and he immediately walked Gleyber Torres before retiring Keibert Ruiz and CJ Abrams. Brandon Nimmo would be up next and hit a two run home run on the first pitch he saw, a fastball right down the middle. Aaron Bummer would relieve Stephen Strasburg to start the eighth. Bummer struck out two in one inning, and Trevor Rosenthal closed it for save number 26.

*Luis Garcia will miss 1-2 weeks with a finger contusion. He has been placed on the 10-day IL. The Nationals have recalled Brady House to fill his spot and give House another chance to find his groove this season.

Game Three: Jose Urquidy (10-4, 3.19) vs MacKenzie Gore (7-8, 3.74)
The Astros offense finally found itself, as they scored three in the second inning off of a shaky MacKenzie Gore. Jose Altuve led the inning off with a double and advanced to third when Chas McCormick flew out to deep center. Jeremy Peña drew a walk and then Pedro Leon hit a two run double. Yainer Diaz hit a two out double to score Leon before Kyle Tucker flew out to end the inning. Gleyber Torres would hit a solo home run in the third, but Houson would respond in the fifth with three more runs. MacKenzie Gore was struggling with the zone all game, and the Nationals decided to shorten his start and give Cade Cavalli some innings with which to work, as he lost his spot in the rotation with the acquisition of Lucas Giolito. The Nationals wanted to start Cavalli off with a clean inning, but it was not to be. MacKenzie Gore ran into trouble, which was punctuated when Yordan Alvarez hit a three run home run with two outs to put the Astros up 6-1. That would force the Nationals hand, as they put in Cavalli to face Jose Altuve to end the inning. Gleyber Torres nearly hit his second home run of the game in the bottom half of the fifth, but was robbed by Yordan Alvarez. Things worsened in the top of the sixth as Cade Cavalli would leave the game with pain in his throwing arm.* Kyle Finnegan and Sean Doolittle would each go two innings of scoreless relief, but the game was already over. The Nationals added two hits and a run in the ninth; Brandon Nimmo doubled and Yadiel Hernandez would drive him in with a two out base hit, but that would be all. Washington almost made it interesting as Joey Meneses was hit by a pitch and then Andrew Vaughn hit a long fly ball down the left field line but it would be well foul, and Vaughn would end up striking out to end the game.

*Cade Cavalli suffered no serious injuries, and will continue working out of the bullpen for now, although the team does not want him to sit too long as he is part of their future rotation plans. They are considering a six man rotation or maybe sending him back to AAA to get more work in.

The Nationals have to feel good about themselves after taking two of three from the Astros coming out of the All Star Break. Lucas Giolito really performed well in his debut, but Andrew Vaughn is struggling adapting to his new surroundings. He is striking out much more than he did in Chicago, and the club is hopeful this is just part of his readjustment to a new team and new city.

Washington sits at 48-54 and will travel to Queens to play the Mets in a three game series.

Pirates suffer first sweep of '23

The Pittsburgh Pirates offense struggled against Tampa Bay as they amassed just one combined run in the first two games of the series. The offense especially struggled in game two as a mixture of Shane McClanahan, Pete Fairbanks and Jason Adam shut out Pittsburgh and limited the team to their lowest hit total of the season, 3.

The Pirates thought they could win game three but fell short after Duane Underwood JR came in in the 8th inning and not only gave up the 4-2 lead but allowed five runs while recording just one out. In total, Tampa Bay scored seven runs in the inning to take the 9-4 lead. Pittsburgh was able to muster a single run in the 9th inning on a Jack Suwinski sac fly but that out left Pittsburgh with just one to try to get at least four more runs. That obviously did not happen as the next batter, Andrew McCutchen struck out to secure Tampa's sweep.

The Pirates now return home for a three game set against the Toronto Blue Jays (18-14)

What I did in my Jays franchise (and plan to do either today or tomorrow in my A's franchise), is line everyone up in a certain order (however you want), then roll through the IFA generator in @JWDixon120's google sheet (Mine is edited, but click on the link below to see how it works!).

It's obviously open for however you decide to roll, but to avoid creating 30 different prospects, I decided that I'd pass on any team that "drafted" a prospect with a potential under 75.

Once you see the spreadsheet, it'll likely make more sense!

Cardinals take series from Nationals - London here we come

The Cardinals (42-33) took 2 of the 3 games against the Nationals in Washington to begin the week. The Cardinals now hold a one game lead on the Cubs in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won on Monday night as Jack Flaherty was solid giving the Cardinals 6 1/3 innings before being lifted. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits with 7 strikeouts. He did walk 4, with his 3rd and 4th walk leading to his exit. But the bullpen was solid and the bats kept adding on runs to keep the game from never really being in jeopardy. The Cards would win 9-3 with Lars Nootbaar tallying 3 RBIs on 2 hits. Goldy and Arenado each pitched in 2 run homeruns.

On Tuesday night, Miles Mikolas would get the ball, but would take the loss as he struggled. Mikolas lasted just 5 innings giving up 4 runs on just 2 hits, but he walked 6 in those five innings and hit a batter. The offense just couldn't keep pace as the bullpen would allow 3 more runs over the final 3 innings of work and the Cards would fall 7-2.

Wednesday afternoon it was Matthew Liberatore making his 2nd start of the season and he was magnificent! Liberatore would toss 7 innings of one run ball with only 4 hits allowed. He walked 2 and struck out 3. His lone run allowed was a solo hr by Lane Thomas in the 4th. Ryan Helsley would earn his 23rd save of the season with a perfect ninth. Tommy Edman had a day with 5 hits and 4 RBIs along with 2 stolen bases. The Cardinals would win 4-1.

Next up is a trip to London to face the Cubs on Saturday and Sunday. Chance for the Cardinals to extend their division lead to a comfortable 3 games.

I went ahead and simulated the rest of the season. I’m eager to start the second phase of my franchise.

The Houston Astros have won the 2023 World Series! They beat the Atlanta Braves four games to one to win their second consecutive championship. Yordan Alvarez won the Postseason MVP Award, hitting .347 with 7 HRs and 16 RBIs. Alex Bregman won the World Series MVP Award, hitting .444 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs for the series.

But with the excitement of winning another Workd Series comes some sobering news… Jim Crane has sold the team. In an interview he said “I have accomplished all of the goals I set out to accomplish when I bought the team in 2011. Now it is time for the next phase of my life.”

Crane will be selling the team to renowned frugality Jeff Smith. In his news conference, Smith had this to say, “The goal for this franchise will be the exact same it has been. We want to bring multiple championships to the city of Houston. We will just look to do it economically.”

Sources say Jeff Smith will limit the team to a $100 million salary. This would put the Astros in the bottom 10 of the league for team salary.

The 2023 Astros had a total payroll of $190 million, so this will be a drastic change for the organization.

How do I get the out of town scoreboard and ticker to work if I’m doing 30 team control? I’ve seen that I need to simulate all the games I’m not playing, so I go to the calendar and click view all games, then when I choose the game I want to play it says all games before mine will be simulated but that doesn’t get it to work. Do I need to individually select each game I’m not playing and simulate it?

You go to view all games, then click each game on the schedule except yours, and simulate each one, one at a time. Then click your game and play it. That should work.

I also attached my follow sheet on the bottom of my sig. I used his great first page then the ones I had created for the rest.

Here is the regular season breakdown as we get ready for season 1.
