    Los Angeles Angels Franchise

Yesssss I know I have become the person who will have 9,000 different franchise posts. What can I saw the new roster came out and I wanted to restart with the real Tatis, Senga, and Fujinami. Then another wrinkle was thrown in when my son (who can only play on weekends cause he is away at college during week) wanted to do it together with me playing games.

So that means no Mets as he is a Yankee fan (I blame his mother) and no Yankees as that makes me sick to my stomach

So with that said we starting talking about what team. We did not want a power house team, but we also did not want a team in a 5 year rebuild. So we wanted a team that was in the middle. Could make the playoffs this year if things go right or could just miss out. So we narrowed down the list and came with the Angels.

We also to keep things realistic said we would not try to resign Ohtani until the off-season when everyone has a shot at him. The game is to easy to keep your players if you resign them in season and in keeping it realistic Ohtani is 100% hitting the market.

So that being said though Angels are perfect for us. They can fight for a playoff spot

So for now here is our roster for Opening series at Oakland

    Starting Rotation
    S Ohtani
    T Anderson
    R Detmers
    J Suarez
    G Canning

    Bullpen
    P Sandoval
    T Davidson
    A Wantz
    J Barria
    A Loup
    M Moore
    J Herget
    J Quijada
    C Estevez

    Infield
    Rendon
    Urhsela
    Drury
    Neto
    O Hoppe
    Thiass
    Lamb
    Rengifo

    Outfield
    Ohtani
    Ward
    Trout
    Renfroe
    Phillips

I will play during the week , Son will play on weekends and lets see what happens.

Hopefully they can make pitching more enjoyable, on legend I feel like the pitches go nowhere near where I want them but the hitters are clueless so it balances out. I’m not sure sliders can help me on offense as I just struck out on a pitch that hit me, but I’ll give them a try. I can’t get any worse

Out of curiosity, how does everyone play through their season(s) in this mode?

I always pitch every full game with my ace in my rotation and pitch every save situation. I only hit if there's any RISP or if it's a game tying/winning situation late in the game, otherwise quick manage to next batter.

I play every weekend game regardless of starting pitcher (I like the bigger crowds/atmosphere) and every game that decides a series if it's tied.

And just sim through everything else. This results in me actually playing about 108+/- games and keeps me from not getting bored of it.

I play every game but sim innings 2-5. It allows me to get through games quicker while still feeling like I was part of the game, plus the innings I sim lets the computer balance out my incompetence at the plate

Angels Open Season On Bad Note, Drop Two of Three to Oakland

It was not the start we wanted heading into to Oakland to open the season. Thinking we would dominate due to Oakland having the worst roster in the game that turned out not to be the case

We took the first game of the series quite easily as Ohtani dominated on the mound going 8 innings , 4 hits, allowing 1 run and striking out 16. He got the win. The damage at the plate came from Mike Trout who had 3 hits including a solo home run. Also Gio Urshela had 2 hits and 3 rbis. All lead to a 5-1 win for the Angels

The rest of the series went downhill as it looked like our bats went into hibernation.

Game 2 saw Tyler Anderson cruising through 4 innings. He was actually perfect and then in the 5th in the blink of an eye he gave up 3 straight hits plus a Rendon error and the A's had 3 runs. That would be all they needed as besides a solo HR from Brandon Drury now much else was done and the A's held on 3-2

Third game I mean can not get worse then this. A's pitcher Ken Waldichuk threw 6 innings of 2 hit ball. The bullpen shut us down and despite a great start from Reid Detmers we could not get anything going. One bad pitch from Aaron Loup in the 8th lead to an RBI double and the A's would win the game 1-0 and the series 2 games to 1

After the series we made one minor move sending down Tucker Davidson to AAA and brining up Ryan Terpera. No need to have 4 lefties in the pen

Next up we travel for 3 to Seattle to take on the 3-1 Mariners

              Current Standings
              Rangers 3-0
              Mariners 3-1
              A's 2-1
              Astros 2-2
              Angels 1-2

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

I just lost the most frustrating game vs Atlanta. Tied 2-2 I’ve got runners on first and second and Alonso hits an opposite field double but it bounces over the fence which prevented the runner on first from scoring, it would have been an easy run if the ball stayed in play. Then in the 9th leading 3-2 Acuna leads off with a walk, he attempts to steal when I threw a slider and it got past my catcher. I have automatic fielding on so for some reason the catcher just stood on home plate and made Alonso come in to get the ball while Acuna took third, so now I’ve got a man on third with no outs and a one run lead. I strike out Matt Olsen, then the next batter pops out and I think I’m going to wiggle out of this. One base hit later and it’s a tie game where we head to extra innings and my bullpen blows the game

On my save file on my OLED model Switch, I try to play every game. However, due to problems I've encountered with freezing on occasion when using The Show's regular graphics, I just quick manage those particular ones to avoid that.

I play every single pitch of every single game for the Tigers. That way the stats are 100% mine, and not simmed.

Angels take 2 of 3 From Mariners, End Road Trip 3-3

Angels were able to get 2 out of 3 against the Mariners to head home 3-3 from the road trip

The first game of the series saw Jose Suarez look like a punching bag as the Mariners battered him around to score 4 runs over the first 5 innings. The Angels tried to claw back with 1 run in the 6th, 7th, and 8th but fell short in the 9th and lost 4-3 to drop their third straight game

In need of a good pitching performance Griffin Canning delivered. He was on point throwing 7 innings of 2 hit ball and striking out 9. Ohtani would hit his first home run of the season in the 8th inning to break an 0 for 15 slump and the Angels win the game 2-0 and even the series

Ohtani took the mound in game 3 and was brilliant once again on the mound. He threw 7 shutout innings and lowered his era to 0.39 through two starts. Mike Trout would hit 2 home runs his second and third on the season. Leading 4-0 in the 9th things would get interesting as Jamie Barria would give up back to back homers to Julio Rodriguez and Ty France before closer Carlos Estevez would come in and shut it down for his second save in as many tries

The Angels 3-3 get a day off then head home to welcome the Blue Jays

                      Standings
                      Texas 4-2
                      Seattle 4-3
                      A's 3-3

The Padres Ruin the Braves home opener 5-1 thanks to 2 home runs from Fernando Tatis Jr. Xander Bogaerts added his first homer of the season while Blake Snell tossed 6 strong innings in the win.

Away we go for time 9 million
I'm a closet Angels fan (we have season tix to Padres, but we sneak up to Anaheim 5 or 6 times a year to see the Angels). I ran a franchise with them last year.. When they are healthy that's a deep lineup especially with O'Hoppe and Renfroe in there. I had a blast with them last year.

Cardinals enter August with 56-51 record, one game lead in division

The Cardinals (56-51) have closed out the month of July with a one game lead in the division over the Cubs after taking 3 games of a 4 game series in St.Louis to conclude the month. The two teams played 8 times after the All-Star break with the Cardinals winning 6 of the 8. Surprisingly, the two teams will not meet again in the regular season.

Jordan Walker has been an absolute beast thus far hitting .338 with 7 homeruns and 19 RBI's since his call up a few weeks ago. Walker has also been doing a good job manning 3rd base. Its possible that Walker could move to left field once Brendan Donovan returns with the thought Donovan will play 3rd, Edmundo Sosa will be the shortstop and Tommy Edman will man 2nd base. A lot will depend on the play of Walker, Sosa, and outfielder Lars Nootbaar over the next 10 days until Donovan is activated from the IL.

The Cardinals will start the month of August off with a 3 game series with the Twins.

Cardinals stand pat at trade deadline

The Cardinals didn't make a move at the deadline this year as the front office cited two reasons:

                            1) The asking price for pieces they targeted was too steep

                            2) With the emergence of Dakota Hudson in the rotation and Jordan Walker at the plate and 3rd base, the Cardinals felt confident that they have filled any holes within the organization. The lineup should only get better once Brendan Donovan returns from the IL in about 10 days.

A lot of people around baseball thought the Cardinals would target relief pitching after losing Ryan Helsley for the regular season and potentially the playoffs due to a hamstring tear, but no move was made as the Cards have depth in the minors with Chris Stratton, Alex Reyes, Packy Naughton, Matthew Liberatore, and Jake Woodford.

Hopefully this doesn't come back to bite them in the end.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

After a long break from my Astros franchise, I have made the decision to start a Chicago White Sox franchise. I wanted to take over a team that I know very little about and see if I can turn them into a contender.

My rotation looks like this (with their 2022 numbers):

                              Dylan Cease - 14-8, 2.20 ERA, 1.11 WHIP
                              Lance Lynn - 8-7, 3.99 ERA, 1.14 WHIP
                              Lucas Giolito - 11-9 4.90 ERA, 1.44 WHIP
                              Michael Kopech - 5-9, 3.54 ERA, 1.19 WHIP
                              Mike Clevinger - 7-7, 4.33 ERA, 1.20 WHIP

As you can see, we have a VERY strong ace in Dylan Cease that will be the mainstay in our rotation for years to come (hopefully). Lance Lynn, while putting up decent numbers last year, I just don’t see him being a part of our future plans. If he can come out and have a very strong year, then maybe my mind will change. I sense a great bounce back year from Giolito, and continuing improvement from Kopech that will hopefully help our rotation become a strong one.

                              Our bullpen looks like this:

                              LRP - Jimmy Lambert - 3.26 ERA, 1.36 WHIP
                              MRP - Jake Diekman - 6.52 ERA, 1.91 WHIP
                              MRP - Kendall Graveman - 3.18 ERA, 1.40 WHIP
                              MRP - Garrett Crochet - N/A
                              SU - Adam Bummer - 2.36 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
                              SU - Reynaldo Lopez - 2.76 ERA, 0.95 WHIP
                              CL - Liam Hendriks - 2.54 ERA, 0.73 WHIP

The back-end of our bullpen is very strong, with Bummer and Lopez coming off strong seasons. With Hendriks returning from his cancer diagnosis, he will take over the closer role again. Middle relief is up and down. Diekman, who was acquired last season from the Red Sox, obviously struggled down the stretch but he will look to improve coming into his second season with the White Sox. Graveman had a good year last season that the White Sox hope he continues coming into this season. With Crochet returning from Tommy John surgery, there is a possibility this bullpen could get better very quickly.

As an Astros fan, I felt it was absolutely necessary to get rid of Joe Kelly. I can’t stand the guy, and I wanted him off my team ASAP, so I traded him for a 34 year old C potential starting pitcher and then I released the starting pitcher.

                              Here is our depth chart:

                              C - Yasmani Grandal (.202/5/27) - Seby Zavala (.270/2/21)
                              1B - Andrew Vaughn (.271/17/76) - Gavin Sheets (.241/15/53)
                              2B - Elvis Andrus (.271/9/28) - Lenyn Sosa (.114/1/1)
                              3B - Yoan Moncada (.212/12/51) - Jake Burger (.250/8/26)
                              SS - Tim Anderson (.301/6/25) - Elvis Andrus (.271/9/28)
                              LF - Andrew Benintendi (.304/5/51) - Gavin Sheets (.241/15/53)
CF - Luis Robert Jr. (.284/12/56) - Adam Haseley (.238/2/3)
                              RF - Oscar Colas (N/A) - Gavin Sheets (.241/15/53)
                              DH - Eloy Jimenez (.295/16/54) - Gavin Sheets (.241/15/53)

Our lineup has a few solid hitters, like Andrew Vaughn, Tim Anderson, Luis Robert Jr., and Eloy Jimenez, but there are a staggering number of holes. Yasmani Grandal leaves a lot to be desired, hitting-wise, from the catcher position. Yoan Moncada is coming off a year where he showed decent power, but he really struggled to get on base consistently. Andrew Benintendi had an outstanding early season with the Royals, but when he was traded to the Yankees he really struggled to hit the ball consistently. Oscar Colas is a rookie that will get the chance to take over the right field spot. We do have a couple of solid hitter backups, like Gavin Sheets and Jake Burger but the team will need to find a way to fill in its holes.

That is where our prospects will hopefully come into play. Here are some key prospects to look out for as we go through our first season with the White Sox (the # is their prospect ranking in our organization):

                              #5 prospect - Sean Burke - RHP - AAA
                              #6 prospect - Jose Rodriguez - 2B/SS - AA
                              #13 prospect - Yoelqui Cespedes - OF - AA
                              #22 prospect - Jonathan Stiever - RHP - AAA
                              #26 prospect - Franklin German - RHP - AAA
                              #28 prospect - Yolbert Sanchez - 2B/SS - AAA
                              #29 prospect - Carlos Perez - C - AAA

Some other guys to look our for in the future are:

                              #1 prospect - Colson Montgomery - SS - A
                              #3 prospect - Bryan Ramos - 3B - AA
                              #7 prospect - Christian Mena - RHP - AA

It’s not going to be an easy process to get this team to the top of the league, but hopefully I can find some ways to fill in the spots we need and take this franchise from the .500 ball club they have been to a consistent contender for the World Series.

I'm running with a legends based franchise. I pretty much took every legend from the 80's on and placed them on their respective team. I'm my Cubbies and rolling with a roster anchored by Ryno (my favorite player), Dawson and Sosa. My attempt for Sandberg was to recreate 1990 Ryno. Thru 59 games thus far it's going pretty well:

                                Ryno's REAL 1990 thru 59 games
                                .350 ave, .398 Ob, .621 slg, 17 hrs, 40 rbis, 11 steals

My Ryno's Numbers thru 59 games
                                .330 ave, .408 Ob, .619 slg, 19 hrs, 44 rbis, 10 steals

I'm 32-27 with a 2 game lead in the Central over a Cardinals team that has Big Mac and Ozzie among others added to them. Good news for me is that Dawson and Sosa haven't really taken off yet as both are sitting in the .220 range hitting. Also since this is a mixture of legends and current, I'm sitting nice and Swanson is struggling mightily at the plate (.150 range) but I'm like my DP pairing of him and Ryno in the infield.
