I’m a week from the trade deadline and I’m actually considering blowing the team up. The only thing stopping me is that it would be unrealistic to unload the type money I’d be dumping. Not looking for anything in return, I just need to get next years payroll down so I can actually make moves in the off season

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
When you start a franchise you’re already $50 million over budget so the contracts that come off the books after year 1 aren’t enough to get you under budget and be able to sign anyone of significance. The $300 million payroll is great but using them is a bigger challenge than I expected. Every week my pitching staff gets worse due to regression since the entire staff is so old, they’re dying a slow death towards the bottom of the league. I’m definitely trying to keep the core though, just need to get younger on the pitching staffComment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
Mariners are a ton of fun. Them boys can hit. I swept Cleveland in a 4 game series to start the year. In my first game against the Angels I trail 8-1 and proceed to score 7 unanswered runs. But then it fell apart allowing a 3 run homer to Trout and a 2 run homer to Walsh to lose 13-8. Trout hit 3 home runs had 6 RBI. Angels hit 7 total home runs in one game. I’ve scored 32 runs in 5 games which is nice and fun.Comment

Redbird Report - Cardinals come out blazing to start June
The Cardinals (42-24) have gotten off to a great start in the month of June. After dropping two of the three games played against the Dodgers to begin the month, the Cardinals have gone into Houston and swept the Astros, and then San Diego and swept the Padres. The Cardinals currently lead the NL Central by 7.5 games over the Cubs and 8.5 games over the Brewers.
The beauty of the current 6 game winning streak is the Cardinals did it by offense in Houston and pitching San Diego. Obviously you want both performing well at all times, but its good to see the team be able to use one to pick up the slack of the other. In the San Diego series, the Cardinals shut out the Padres on Friday and Saturday, then allowed only one run on Sunday. In Houston, the Cardinals hit a combined 12 homeruns over the 3 games, although the short left field may have accounted for half of those.
The Cardinals are off this coming Monday and Tuesday will begin a 3 game series with the Brewers in St.Louis. In fact, the Cardinals and Brewers will meet 6 times over the next 9 days, with the Blue Jays sandwiched in between. The Cardinals will also travel to London again this year, this time as the road team facing the Pirates for 2 games.

Cardinals activate Joey Gallo from 60 day IL
The Cardinals have activated OF/1B/3B/DH Joey Gallo from the 60 day IL. Gallo was sidelined with a fractured shin suffered not 10 games into the season. The thought initally was that Gallo wouldn't return until July, but he healed faster than many expected and has returned to the lineup where his bat has already made an impact (2 homeruns, 6 RBI, 7 hits over 8 games)
Oscar Mercado was placed on outright waivers to make room on the 40 man roster for Gallo. If he clears waivers, which he's expected to do, Mercado will return to Memphis.
Checking the Nest - Minor League News
* Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman continue to play well in Memphis, even if the team itself isn't playing all that well. Walker and Gorman have both contributed at the major league level, and many are surprised they aren't on the big league roster, but the Cardinals won't to give both an opportunity to play everyday and not sit the bench as they would if in St.Louis. Both are currently blocked at their respective positions and even the DH role (Gallo), so for now they will stay in Memphis and continue to get everyday at-bats.
* Micheal McGreevy (Springfield - AA) continues to impress. McGreevy currently has a 4-2 record, which may not jump out as impressive, but his ERA is 1.52 and WHIP is just under 1 (0.99). McGreevy is the leading vote getter for starting pitcher in the Texas League All Star Game. While its highly unlikely that he sees the big leagues this year, there is a possibility that he jumps to Memphis (AAA) and gets a shot at joining the big boys in Florida next spring.
* Dalton Rushing (Springfield - AA) has found himself in a tailspin and currently has a spot on the trade block. Rushing surprised everyone making the big league roster out of spring after having a tremendous camp, but his success quickly faded as he faced consistent big league pitching. When Rushing was optioned to Memphis he was hitting just over .100 in St.Louis. When he was demoted to Springfield, he was hitting just .150. Currently at Springfield Rushing is hitting just .123 with no homeruns and 1 RBI thru 10 games. In 38 at-bats, he has struck out 18 times. He has upside, but the Dodgers weren't willing to wait as they placed him on waivers this winter, and now the Cardinals apparently don't have a lot of faith that he can reach a sustained level that will allow him to reach the major league level. And with solid depth at the catcher position, him being available on the block is anything but surprising.
A Trip Around the Bases of the League
1st) In the biggest pre-July/trade season trade thus far, the Yankees and Phillies have agreed to a deal that sent RF/DH Giancarlo Stanton to the Phillies for LHP Matt Strahm. The Phillies who lost Bryce Harper until around the trade deadline (knee) think that Stanton can fill the void in the lineup and possibly right field until their All-Star returns. And when Harper does return, the lineup, that was really good, gets even better. The downside(s) though, are that Stanton is owed a lot of money for the next 3 years after 2024, and the Phillies are currently 14 games behind the Braves in the NL East and 4 games behind in the wildcard.
For the Yankees, this has to be considered a win-win. They unload that massive contract and get left handed relief help in return. They slider Gleybar Torres into the DH role to replace Stanton and really don't miss a beat there. The Yankees are 4 games back of the Rays in the AL East (toughest division in baseball) and are currently the 2nd wild card team. With the extra money, they can seek more help on the trade market.
2nd) Yasmani Grandal (CHW) hit his 200th career homerun and drove in his 600th career RBI in the same game against the Guardians. Grandal was brought back to Chicago this winter after testing the free agent market.
3rd) Ryan Mountcastle (BAL) saw his 23 game hitting streak come to an end against the Rays the other day. Mountcastle has the longest hitting streak of the 2024 season.
Home) As mentioned above the AL East is by far the best/most competitive division in baseball. The last place team (Red Sox) are just 4.5 games behind the leading Rays. The next most competitive division would be the NL West where 4 of the five teams currently hold playoff spots (SD - Div leader, LAD, SF, ARI wildcard teams). The last place Rockies (8 games behind SD) are just 3 games back of the wildcard.Last edited by countryboy; 05-26-2023, 10:04 AM.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Reds Run Steak to 7
Reds Win Opener
The New York Mets came to town and started the scoring early in game 1 as they took a 1-0 lead in the the top of the first inning Tuesday night in Cincinnati. However it was the Reds who had the last laugh as they took the opener 5-3. Will Myers and Elly De La Cruz both homered and Hunter Greene struck out 7 in the contest. Alexis Diaz picked up his 12th save on the season. Game 2 is Wednesday night.

Reds Take Game 2 5-2

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
July 24-26: AUSTIN (56-48) @ FLAGSTAFF (64-38)
Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,577)
July 24: Fire Frogs 9, Hops 2
July 25: Fire Frogs 11, Hops 2
July 26: Fire Frogs 8, Hops 3
Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The slumping Flagstaff Hops were swept by the Austin Fire Frogs to close out the opening home stand of the second half with a (1-6) record. The Fire Frogs outscored the Hops 28-7 in the three game sweep. They also swept the six game season series and improved to (11-2) all-time against the Hops.
The Fire Frogs hit six home runs in the opener and cruised to a 9-2 victory over the Hops in front of a sell out crowd at AutoZone Park. Juan Caceras (18,19) and Luke Jordan (25,26) each homered twice for the first-place Fire Frogs.
Austin scored runs in each of the first five innings and chased Russell Fluty, in his 2023 debut, after just 3 1/3 innings. Fluty (0-1) allowed seven runs on nine hits, while striking out one and walking two, after his call up from Triple-A.
The Fire Frogs also got home runs from Rick Singleton (20) and Hulk Hoagie (24).
David Benitez went 2 for 3 driving in both of the Hops runs on RBI singles.
Edgar Prado (5-10) picked up the win for Austin, pitching eight innings and allowing two runs on six hits as he struck out seven, while walking none.
On Tuesday evening, the Fire Frogs rocked Shoe-Lace O’Tying, chasing him in the fifth, as they clobbered the Hops 11-2. Chris Richardson went 6 for 6 with six singles and drove in two runs.
Art Mason got the Hops off to a quick start as he homered to open the bottom of the first inning. But that was it for Flagstaff.
Austin scored five in the top of the third off of O’Tying, capped off by an Odell Hansen three-run home run. Luke Jordan would add a two-run home run in the fifth, his third in two games and 27th on the season.
Shoe-Lace O’Tying (9-6) surrendered nine runs on 11 hits in four plus innings of work. He struck out five and walked two. Angelo Chacin and Aldo Osuna each allowed a run out of the bullpen.
Pat Eveland (11-4) earned the win for Austin, tossing six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking one. Kyle Monroe pitched the final three innings to earn his second save.
Art Mason went 3 for 5 with a home run and Josh Ortega homered, his 29th on the season, in the loss. David Benitez went 2 for 3 with a walk. Hulk Hoagie went 4 for 5 with a double and scored twice for the Fire Frogs in their 19 hit attack.
The alarm bells may be sounding as the Hops concluded the three game series by losing the finale 8-3. Juan Caceras once again homered twice (20,21) as the Fire Frogs dismantled the suddenly struggling Hops.
The Hops (64-38) would grab a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run from Arturo Mardones, his 13th on the season. But once again, that would be the highlight for the Hops.
Austin (56-48) struck for three in the top of the second, highlighted by a two-run home run from Juan Caceras. The Fire Frogs would score single runs in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings to pull away for the win.
Ryan Pressley (10-6) took the loss, tossing seven innings and allowing six runs on eight hits.
Richie Chappell (8-3) picked up the win for Austin. He pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits.
The Hops will now hit the road as they look to turn things around against last place Prescott (46-57) with their lead in the ML West down to 12 1/2 games over Salt Lake.
Around the League: San Antonio knocked out 19 hits, including five home runs, in a 13-1 victory over Fort Worth. William Suzuki went 3 for 5 with two home runs and six RBIs to help pace the Javelinas.
Mesa’s Logan (11-7) tossed 7.1 innings of shutout baseball, scattering eight hits and striking out seven as the Solar Sox blanked the Roadrunners 4-0. Bobby Rayburn hit solo home runs in the 11th and 12th innings as West Texas rallied to defeat El Paso 7-6. The Bison are (14-7) in July and are now just 1 1/2 games back of the Fire Frogs in the ML East. They hold the second Mountain League Wild Card spot.
Salt Lake’s Julio Cervantes hit a first inning grand slam as the Chukars scored six runs in the inning and held on for a 7-4 victory over St George to retake second place in the ML West from the Archers.
Gilbert’s Gilberto Medrano improved to (13-4) as he tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six as the Barnstormers defeated Phoenix 6-2.
Mesa ran it’s winning streak to 11 games on Wednesday evening as they rallied to defeat Tucson 8-3. A ninth inning grand slam from Clyde Floyd sealed it as Mesa continues to make a run for the DL East title.
Kian Kuo hit a walk off grand slam as Goodyear rallied to stun Yuma 7-5. The home run was just the second on the year for the 21-year-old third baseman.
Trades: West Texas has acquired 28-year-old reliever Roberto Francisco (88 OVR, B POT)) from Scottsdale in exchange for 24-year-old reliever Preston Monahan (71 OVR, C POT), 25-year-old left fielder B.J. Mendoza (69 OVR, C POT) and 23-year-old shortstop Elmer Samuel (57 OVR, B POT).
Roswell has acquired 28-year-old second baseman Angel Rodriguez (88 OVR, C POT) from Prescott in exchange for 28-year-old center fielder Willie Reece (84 OVR, B OVR) and 30-year-old second baseman Michael McGill (80 OVR, B OVR). Roswell then shipped 25-year-old catcher Joe Gallagher (86 OVR, B OVR) to Surprise in exchange for 24-year-old starter Kyle Brunet (84 OVR, B OVR) and 26-year-old first baseman David Gillet (76 OVR, C OVR).

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
2023 Washington Nationals
Game One: Caleb Baragar (8-5, 4.19) vs Josiah Gray (8-12, 2.96)
Caleb Baragar was perfect through four innings, but would then give up a single to Brandon Drury, a double to Anderson Tejeda and a sac fly by Brandon Nimmo to give Washington the 1-0 lead. The score would hold until the ninth, when Trevor Rosenthal loaded the bases before giving up a three run double to Nick Amed. Alex Reyes would enter to close the game, he would hit Luis Garcia (pinch hitting for Kike Hernandez) before Yadiel Hernandez (pinch hitting for Joey Meneses) popped out and Brandon Drury was called out on strikes on a questionable call. Gleyber Torres would single and Anderson Tejeda would drive a ball to right center that may have won the game if the wind had not been blowing in, but alas it is another late game implosion for the Nats, the third in their last seven games.
Game Two: Corbin Martin (4-9, 5.46) vs Zach Davies (9-9, 3.93)
Gleyber Torres got the Nationals off to a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Washington would then score three more in the sixth, one via a sac fly by Brandon Drury and the other two on a home run by Lane Thomas on the very first pitch thrown by reliever Jakob Junis. Luis Garcia would hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it 5-0 Nats. It was not all sunshine and rainbows however, as Brandon Drury was injured sliding into second base in the eighth, and X-Rays will be needed but it looks like a significant injury to his shoulder or arm*. The Nationals would complete the shutout as Aaron Bummer would strike out the side and give up a walk in the ninth.
*Brandon Drury has a fractured forearm and will miss 1-2 months. He is being placed on the 10-day IL in hopes that it will only be a month, which would allow him to be a part of any postseason baseball IF the Nationals can make it. The club has called up Roger Gallegos all the way from single-A. Gallegos was the Nationals second round pick in the 2022 draft and has a strong skill set coming out of college but is raw and it is uncertain if he can transition to the major league level (he’s a 70 OVR but D potential).
Game Three: Reyes Moronta (3-4, 2.75) vs Lucas Giolito (10-9, 3.80)
The Diamondbacks are using Moronta as an opener
Roger Gallegos will make his MLB debut at first, and will be batting ninth.
Christian Walker got his first hit of the series with a lead off home run in the second to put Arizona up first. The Nationals tied the game in the third following consecutive two out base hits from Brady House, Luis Garcia, and Yadiel Hernandez. The D’backs responded in the fourth with a double from Jake McCarthy and a single by Christian Walker. Both would come around to score, but the Nationals would rally back and tie the game in the eighth. Joe Mantiply would come in for Arizona and give up a double to Luis Garcia and an RBI base hit to Yadiel Hernandez on the first two pitches he threw. Gleyber Torres would bring home Hernandez with a sac fly to tie the game. The Nats would load the bases for Roger Gallegos but the moment proved to be too big for him and he popped out to foul territory on the first pitch he saw from Caleb Smith. Carl Edwards Jr and Caleb Smith would pitch scoreless ninth innings, and Edwards would leave with two down in the tenth to allow left handed Colin Poche to face Jake McCarthy with a man on third. The Diamondbacks would attempt a suicide squeeze but McCarthy missed the bunt attempt and the squeeze was thwarted. Caleb Smith would stay on for the tenth and the Nationals would pinch run CJ Abrams at second. He would advance to third on a fly ball from Gleyber Torres and then score the winning run on a sac fly from Kike Hernandez, who had pinch hit for Brandon Nimmo in the eighth.
The Nationals take another series and move to 69-66 on the year. They are still one game behind Miami for the second Wild Card spot as they enter September. They now stay in Washington to play the Braves for the last time this season.Cleveland Guardians - MLB The Show 25

Pirates hit hard by injury bug in series win in Los Angeles
Andrew McCutchen and the Pirates have been enjoying his return to Pittsburgh. He has been the offensive MVP for the Pirates and leads the team in HR's (20) and RBI's (52) but unfortunately that reunion tour has to pause for now. McCutchen suffered an injury to his right arm while sliding into second in the second game of the series. Later x-rays showed a break in his forearm that is expected to sideline him until at least late August.
There was still more bad news for Pittsburgh in the series as the teams young star Oneil Cruz also suffered an injury in game three of the series as he tried to steal second. That injury seemed to be even worse and was confirmed as such after an MRI revealed a season ending ACL tear.
For now Ji-Wan Bae will replace Cruz at short and Jack Suwinkski will take over the duties in right for McCutchen.
The Pirates won the first two games of the series. Game one was won in extra innings despite Angels starter Reid Detmers taking a perfect game into the 7th inning. Kevin Plawecki was the one who came up with the eventual game winning rbi in the 10th inning as Pittsburgh went on to win 4-3.
Game two was where McCutchen hit his 20th HR which led Pittsburgh to the 2-1 victory.
Game three was a back and forth affair until Gio Urshela hit his second homer of the game, a three run blast in the 8th inning that gave the Angles the 8-5 victory.
Pittsburgh now travels to San Diego for a three game set against the Padres (62-38/2nd NL West).Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
Cleveland loses all three to New York to open the season. The bullpen blew all three games. Judge, Stanton, and Rizzo all came up big for NY in the late innings.
The games were tight and in spite of the 0-3 start, i still expect a decent 2024 season.
On to Texas for 3. received_569777051977748.jpeg

9-4 in my Mariners chise. Had some crazy games. Blow outs, come backs, down to the wire. Clutch hitting. Good and bad pitching. It’s only 13 games in and I’ve had so many different results. No game feels the same. I’m really enjoying this.Comment
