I'm assuming (hoping) its a slump. This last blown save he had zero control, if it wasn't a ball, it was in the middle of the strike zone and got hammered. I may give him a save or two off like you did to get him straightened out. Maybe bring him in some non save situations first.

I keep him in the closer spot, but will bring him in the 8th. Karinchkk (for me) is about to go to AAA to relearn his talents. He's another terrible one for me. Almost plays to his RL counterpart.
I usually rotate my closer. Clase, Stephens, and Hentges. Clase stays in Closer spot. I do really well with Hentges.

How is his confidence? I’ve been having the same struggles with Edwin Diaz, I noticed his confidence was nearly empty and it’s been a real struggle to get it back up

It took me nearly a month but I think I finally got my timing fixed after doing the home run derby at the all star break. The Mets have won seven in a row to pull within 6games of the Phillies. We’re tied with the Braves for the first wildcard spot and we’re about to open a three game series against them. Picking up Wandy Peralta at the trade deadline has been a huge addition for the bullpen and Francisco Alvarez has really grown in to a presence in the middle of the lineup

Standings Update

With the sweep of the Rays, the Tigers increased their Central division lead to 19 games over the second place Minnesota Twins.

The Blue Jays lead the A.L. East by 11.5 games over the Yankees. The Astros lead the West by 2.5 games over the Rangers. The Twins, Yankees, and Rangers hold the three Wild Card spots, with the Rays just 1 game back, and the Angels 1.5 games back.

In the National League, the Braves lead the East by 12.5 games over the Mets. The Brewers lead the Central by 5 games over the Cardinals. The Dodgers lead the West by 6 games over the Padres. The Mets, Cardinals, and Padres hold the three Wild Card spots. The Pirates are just 1.5 games back, and the Cubs 6.5 back.

Austin Meadows Recalled From Rehab Assignment.

Outfielder Austin Meadows was activated from the I.L., and recalled from his rehab assignment in Toledo. In 19 at bats with the Mud Hens, Meadows hit .474 with a home run and 7 RBI. Prior to his I.L. stint, Meadows was hitting .248 with 7 HR and 33 RBI in 40 games with the Tigers.

CLEVELAND GUARDIANS 2024 UPDATE:

We've lost the last 2 series to Tampa and San Diego 2-1. White Sox up next and need to win this series.

Fun fact. Free agent signing Teoscar Hernandez leads the league in RBI with 18. Its early but a very good start.

Not so fun fact. We traded for Andrew Vaughn at the deadline last year since he was on the trade block. Can't get anything yet from him offensively.

Same thing happened to me, I traded for him and Lucas Giolito and Giolito has ended up being the better part of the trade....

2023 Washington Nationals

Game One: Zach Davies (10-9, 3.76) vs Griffin Canning (2-11, 4.40)
Griffin Canning should have had a five pitch first inning, but Garret Hampson airmailed a throw into the dugout following a ground ball by Yadiel Hernandez, allowing him to go to second with two down. Joey Meneses would capitalize on the miscue and hit a single to center allowing Hernandez to score. The Angels would tie the game in the sixth with a triple by Garrett Hampson and a sac fly by David Fletcher. Washington would regain the lead in the eighth following a single from Yadiel Hernandez, who would be replaced at first by CJ Abrams. Joey Meneses would single and Gleyber Torres would drive Abrams in with a single. The Nationals almost scored another run on a sac fly from Lane Thomas but David Fletcher made a heads up play and was able to make a swipe tag on Joey Meneses, who was attempting to advance to third. The Angels, with some help from the home plate umpire, would tie the game in the ninth with a two out double from Buddy Kennedy. Kyle Schwarber had previously walked despite some good pitches from Trevor Rosenthal that where called balls. Victor Arano would come in to pitch the bottom of the tenth and on the first pitch he would have up the game winning double to Logan O’Hoppe, and the Nationals lose a frustrating one to start their road trip.

Game Two: Lucas Giolito (10-9, 3.82) vs Jose Suarez (5-7, 3.55)
Washington scored three runs in the fifth, all of them coming after a throwing error by Anthony Rendon that could have resulted in an inning ending double play. Gleyber Torres was able to come home when Rendon airmailed a throw over the second basemen’s head. Wilmer Perez and Brandon Nimmo would then advance to second and third. Roger Gallegos grounded out to short, scoring Nimmo. It would be Gallegos’ first career RBI, but his first hit will have to wait. Victor Robles then doubled down the right field line to score Perez and give the Nationals a 3-0 lead.The Nationals would get two more runs in the seventh, Victor Robles would double to score Gallegos, who had just recorded his first major league base hit. He would be injured sliding into home plate, but it does not seem serious*. The second run came on a Gleyber Torres base hit. Andrew Vaughn hit a solo home run in the ninth to make it 6-1 and the Nationals won this game without much of a threat from the Angels.

*Roger Gallegos strained his bicep and is listed as day to day.

Washington splits the series with LA/Anaheim to remain at .500. The Phillies have won four straight, and are still a half game ahead of Washington in the Wild Card race. Miami still holds the second spot, with Philly a game behind, and Washington 1.5 games back. The Padres are next in line at 2.5 games back.

The Nationals (70-70) will go to Oakland to play the A’s (57-84) for three games before flying to San Diego for three.

Following the Western swing, the Nationals will come home to play the Mets and Phillies in three game series, then go on the road to play the Mets and Phillies in their respective home parks. They will then host Miami in a four game series to close out the season. This has the making to be a dramatic finish.

Nice pick up. Hernandez was a good sign. You got him playing in RF?
I just started my play franchise since manage mode is a train wreck. Its been a couple years since I've played. I'm going into 23 with Gonzalez and Brennan to start RF.

Cardinals make big move to bolster bullpen acquiring Liam Hendricks from Mariners

The Cardinals have made their first significant trade of the trade season, as they have acquired RHP Liam Hendricks from the Mariners. The 35 year old Hendricks was in the Top 3 in save leaders in the American League (28) with the Mariners. Hendricks will be asked to take a different role in the bullpen with the Cardinals as they have 3 time All-Star Ryan Helsley as their closer and Giovanny Gallegos as their dependable set up man. Nevertheless, the acquisition of Hendricks strengthens a bullpen that has had its fair share of struggles, especially to begin the 2nd half of the season.

The main piece the Cardinals sent in return was Joey Gallo, who the Cardinals signed this past winter to be the everyday DH and provide left handed pop in the lineup. Gallo has been on the IL more than he's played games, and while he had a week or two stretch of success, his overall production has been poor, especially since the break with 10 strikeouts in 14 plate appearances, with no hits.

The entire trade was:

RHP Liam Hendricks
OF Magnerius Sierra

Mariners Get:

OF/1B/3B - Joey Gallo
LHP - Pete Hansen (23 year old SP prosepct)
RHP - Jason McCallum (20 year old RP prospect)

This is a big time get for the Cardinals who need to find a way to steady the bullpen.

The Cardinals likely are not done as they seek a left handed arm for the bullpen and to better their bench depth, and possibly fill the everyday SS job that was left vacant with the injury to Tommy Edman. The Cardinals could possibly look for another starting pitcher that could serve as long reliever out of the bullpen or spot starter when needed.

I acquired Hernandez in my Tigers franchise, batting him 5th in the lineup.

Been a great trade so far, as Hernandez has 4 HR and 12 RBI in 8 games with the Tigers.

SPRING TRAINING WRAP-UP

The Oakland Athletics has finished Spring Training with a record of 7-20. The only SP that had at least a decent showing was Paul Blackburn (1-1, 3.65 ERA) but that was only over 24.2 IP. Newcomer Shintaro Fujinami struggled mightily, losing both of his decisions with a 10.13 ERA and WHIP approaching 2.5. There are a lot of questions about this pitching staff and little to no answers.

Offensively the A's got good production from Aledmys Diaz (4 HRs, .294) and Conner Capel (2 HRs, .313) but very average to poor output from everyone else.

The Oakland Athletics had traded prospect SP Joey Estes to the Kansas City Royals for RP Nick Wittgren*

The Oakland Athletics were unhappy with the options for the MLB bullpen and have made a deal with the Royals to bring in the veteran right hander. While this isn't a move that will move the needle in any real way, it gives them a guy to provide some decent innings.

The Royals receive Joey Estes, a 6'2 right handed SP who will be sent to AA NW Arkansas.

The A's now look towards Opening Day at home where they will welcome the Angles.
