Well at the rate I'm playing, I should reach the end of the 2023 season sometime around next April.... but I honestly think I'm going to make the postseason in just my second year, which is pretty crazy. I also think I've given up on my spreadsheet, it's too much for me to keep up with. But, the updates will continue, hopefully soon.

The series rubber match will be tomorrow night (Cleveland won the first game 2-0) as Joe Musgrove (5-5, 3.49) faces off against Aaron Civale (4-2, 4.09)

NOTE:This is the first time I've ever thrown a no hitter in all the years and games I've played. Was actually quite nerve wracking as we came down the stretch!

Skubal On Track For Post All Star Break Return

Tarik Skubal is set to make his 4th rehab start for Toledo tomorrow (Friday.) If all goes well, he will return to the Tigers following the All Star break. Skubal could start for the Tigers as early as July 14th.

Eduardo Rodriguez Nearing Return

Pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez (10-3, 3.87) can return from the I.L. as early as Saturday July 9th, the day before the All Star Break begins. Rodriguez is tentatively scheduled to start for Toledo on that Saturday, in a rehab start. If that goes well, he could be activated when the Tigers begin play after the All Star break on July 14th.

All Star Vote Update

The Tigers currently have 4 players leading in All Star voting for their respective positions. Eric Haase (C), Spencer Torkelson (1B), and Kyle Dutcher (3B) all have leads of over 100,000 votes, and are likely to hold on to their respective leads, and be in the starting lineup. Javier Baez (SS) has a slim 2000 vote lead over Bo Bichette.

Pirates say good riddance to July

The Pittsburgh Pirates lead in the NL Central is down to the slimmest of margins (0.5 games) after their horrid end to June. Pittsburgh won just twice in their last thirteen games of the month.

To end the month, Pittsburgh lost their series vs. the Padres 2-1 and lost their first game of a three game set against the Brewers 8-2. The offense has been struggling as a whole as of late and that was felt the most in their first game of the series versus the Padres.

In that first game, the Pirates got an excellent outing from their starting pitcher, Rich Hill who allowed just one run in 6 innings. That was backed up by the bullpen as Johan Oviedo pitched 2.1 innings of near perfect ball while he allowed just two hits and 2 walks but no runs. That was even further followed up by another amazing performance that Chase De Jong put together as the game went into extras. De Jong pitched four perfect extra innings, not allowing any runs and given the Pirate offense that many chances to score a run. But could they,...no. De Jong's luck ran out in his fifth inning of work as Adam Engel hit a two out rbi double that gave the Padres the lead and eventually the win as the Pirates again failed to score with the ghost runner at second.

The Pirates somehow head into July with a divisional lead but a lot will have to change for them to keep that lead as the season continues to head toward the all-star break. Pittsburgh will continue their series against Milwaukee and hope to come out of with their divisional lead intact.

I didn't keep up like I had hoped with my offseason nor did I update during Spring Training as I just rolled along.

Anyways, the only other big signing this offseason for us was we signed Joey Gallo to a one year $4.3M contract to get a left handed power bat in the lineup. He will be the primary DH for us in 2024.

We rolled thru Spring Training at 14-11 and avoided any major injuries. The only significant injury this Spring in the league was the Red Sox Trevor Story suffering a fractured wrist. He should return in May.

Getting ready for Opening Day 2024.

45-34 with the Angels. 8 games back from the Astros! Seems like the Wild Card is my only shot which I have a good lead in. I've had a few good winning streaks but one stretch of losing 12 of 16 sunk me from the division. I've played every game with quick counts on and classic pitching

My middle relief has been solid but I have lost too many games being up a run or two and then a big inning by the CPU and lose. Perfect example I was up 2-0 in the 8th against the Dodgers and put Estevez in to close it out and lets up a 2 run homer and then end up losing 7-4 in extra innings.

Thinking of Alexis Diaz as my closer option so I have shut down option.

Cardinals 2024 Season Outlook

The Cardinals have completed Spring Training and are ready to head into the 2024 regular season. The Cardinals completed Spring Training with a 14-11 record, but more important than that, they finished the Spring healthy.

The Cardinals missed the playoffs in the 2023 season after injuries and inconsistent play in the 2nd half of the season led to a disappointing finish to a season full of promise. The front office brought Oliver Marmol back on a 2 year deal thinking he deserved another chance after getting the Cards to the postseason in 2022 and the obstacles that the team faced due to injuries and lack of MLB ready depth last year.

Spring Training yielded a couple of surprises. First and foremost, with Andrew Knizner now in San Francisco, the Cardinals had to find a backup to Willson Contreras at catcher. It was expected that Ivan Herrera would take that spot, but waiver acquisition Dalton Rushing won the job. The 23 year old hit over .400 in the Spring with 11 RBIs. He also commanded the pitching staff and threw out his fair share of would be base stealers. With Rushing as the backup, Herrera will again start the year in Memphis.

The other surprise was Nick Dunn winning a backup infielder role. The Cardinals expected Paul DeJong to take on spot, which he did, but the other was thought to go to Jordan Walker or Nolan Gorman. Instead, it went to Nick Dunn. Dunn hit .321 this Spring and played gold glove caliber defense. Dunn who can play 2B, SS, and 3B, will hopefully add the depth the team sorely missed last year.

The rest of the 26 man roster is what you would expect. Dakota Hudson did beat out Jake Woodford and Matthew Liberatore for the 5th rotation spot, but that was expected. Brad Boxberger beat out Johan Oviedo and Drew Van Hagen for a spot in the bullpen, but that wasn't a huge surprise.

The Cardinals head into the 2024 season with extremely high expectations. With the signing of 2023 NL Cy Young Award winner Julio Urias, who won 20 games, and the signing of Joey Gallo to provide left handed pop in the lineup, bringing Harrison Bader back to man centerfield, and the other not so marquee additions to build depth and there is sincere reason for high optimism in St.Louis this year.

The Cardinals will start the 2024 season at home with a 3 game series with the Reds.

Cardinals take Opening Series from Reds in St.Louis

The Cardinals (2-1) got the 2024 season off on the right foot by taking 2 of 3 games from the Reds in St.Louis during Opening Weekend.

Opening Day is always magical and it was very much so in Busch Stadium as newly acquired Julio Urias pitched a gem. The reigning NL Cy Young award winner threw a complete game, one hit shutout against the Reds. Urias would allow 2 walks with 7 strikeouts over the start. Nolan Arenado made his return to the lineup from season ending surgery last year by blasting a 435 FT homerun off of Hunter Greene. Joey Gallo, another new Cardinal, hit a solo shot as well as the Cardinals would go on to win 4-0.

After an off day on Friday, the two teams met Saturday night, and it was ugly for the home team. Nick Lodolo would stagnate the Cardinals bats, along with the bullpen as the Reds shutout the Redbirds 3-0. Jack Flaherty would take the loss, although he didn't pitch poorly, going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts. Brendan Donovan was the lone offensive bright spot going 2 for 2 with a walk.

The Sunday series finale was all Cardinals. The Cardinals would belt 4 homeruns, put up 10 runs on 14 hits as they routed the Reds 10-1. Paul Goldschmidt would hit his first homerun of the season and Tyler O'Neill would crank out his 100th of his career. Nolan Arenado and Willson Contreras were the other long ball hitters in the game. Dylan Carlson would get 2 hits on the day and Goldschmidt would go 4 for 5, his only out was a great diving catch by Jay Allen in right center. Jordan Montgomery would go 8 innings, but wouldn't be allowed to go for the complete game shutout after having a 30 pitch 8th inning that put him at 112 pitches when he finished the inning. Brad Boxberger made his Cardinal debut, and closed out the game but not before giving up a solo homerun to Tyler Stephenson.

The Cardinals will travel to Chicago for a 3 game series with the Cubs in Wrigley Field.

Blake Snell who had struggled in his 3 previous starts was back to his old Cy Young form in tossing a 12 strikeout no hitter. Snell was dominant from beginning to end and the Guardian hitters had no answer for him as they never got a runner to 2nd base. Snell walked 3 in the effort. Juan Soto hit his league leading 27th home run to power a Padres offense that had been dormant for the better part of 2 weeks to 6 runs in the win. The Padres staff hopes this is the spark that will start a run for them, as the highly touted team was languishing in 3rd place in the NL West with a 36-30 record coming in to tonight's game.

The series rubber match will be tomorrow night (Cleveland won the first game 2-0) as Joe Musgrove (5-5, 3.49) faces off against Aaron Civale (4-2, 4.09)

NOTE:This is the first time I've ever thrown a no hitter in all the years and games I've played. Was actually quite nerve wracking as we came down the stretch!

Does anyone have any insight on how consecutively using Player Lock in Franchise mode affects A.I Logic?

I have been running a sorta pseudo career mode with Carlos Santana where I just player lock him every game. I'm running 30 team control just in case he gets traded, but I have every single setting set to Auto.

After the first complete month and 100 At-Bats I'm leading the NL in bunch of offensive categories, but the CPU has me still batting 9th in the lineup. And the lineup doesn't seem to have changed a bit. Actually it seems that league-wide the lineups have remained static, and loads of teams have guys batting below .200 at the top of their lineups. Also after a full month my team is dead last in Steals with a total of 1.

Is there some type of AI Logic breaking going on my continuously Player Locking? I know the AI always favors stats over production, but seems like something else is going on too.

MLB 22 btw. Be interesting to hear if 23 has any kinda of AI Logic improvements has I didnt really follow the development videos earlier in the year.

The 2023 MLB Amateur Draft is upon us. Most analysts believe that there are three "can't miss" prospects. Outfielders Neal Lantz, and Vaughn Beltre, and pitcher Thomas Reyes.

The Pittsburgh Pirates won the draft lottery, and will select first overall. Washington will pick second, followed by the Detroit Tigers. There is a substantial drop off after the top 3 picks.

Projected Top 5 Picks

1. Neal Lantz, OF Kentucky Junior College
Lantz is the consensus #1 pick among most analysts. Lantz has elite speed, and arm strength for an outfielder, and a great eye at the plate. He projects to be a high average, hitter with some pop in his bat. A left handed hitter, he handles left handed pitching just as well as right handed.

2. Vaughn Beltre, OF, Oklahoma High School
Most scouts project Beltre going second overall to the Nationals, though there is some concerns about signability. Beltre, just 18 years old, projects to be an elite hitter with good power, elite speed, and elite instincts in Center Field. Beltre opted out of the Dr. exam, so there is some concern over his health. This, along with the signability concerns could possibly cause him to fall a bit.

3. Thomas Reyes, SP, Univerisity of Washington
Reyes fastball tops out at 98, and has a power slider to go with it. Though he throws hard, he only struck out about 7 batters per 9 innings, which is likely due to the fact that he is basically a fastball/slider pitcher. Reyes does a good job of limiting hits, and doesn't walk very many hitters.

4. Omar Guerrero, SP, Penn State University
Guerrero is another hard thrower, with a fastball topping out at 96-98. His curve and slider are both plus pitches, though his changeup needs work. He doesn't strike out a lot of hitters, but keeps walks to a minimum, and limits hits well. He was plagued by arm problems, so there are injury/durability concerns, which could lead to him dropping a bit
5. Ryan Douglass, SP, New Mexico State University
Douglas throws 4 seam fastball that tops out at 97, and a 2 seamer that goes between 90-94, with a plus slider. He has good control, and rarely walks hitters, though he doesn't strike out as many as expected with his velocity.
