Re: MLB The Show 23 - The Little Things

In 2024 of my Red Sox franchise, I got a pre game notice that SP Kutter Crawford couldn't start due to lower back pain. So in his place, I started reliever Matt Moore since he had previous starting experience. Moore threw 2.1 innings with no hits, no walks, and 4 strikeouts. As he left the mound, the announcers said it "was a good outing for the opener. Not allowing a hit."

Never heard them refer to the opener in previous years. Even with someone listed as relief or closing pitcher starting

Playing a game in Miami early in the season where most places are still cold outside and the umpire is sweating….. pretty neat, and I had the roof open btw lol

I do CPU vs CPU so I can enjoy the ambience of it all. Evan Longoria stepped up to the plate and the commentators started a story about him. But he quickly grounded out on the first pitch. The commentators were interrupted to call the play, but they continued the story after as the next guy came up to bat. That was pretty cool.

So I'm down 9-8 in the bottom of the ninth, runner on third, 2 out.

I hit a screamer to 3rd base, it bounces off the 3rd baseman's glove, over to the shortstop who makes the game-ending out.

Like, I wasn't even mad, I had never seen that happen before.

To add on to my CPU vs CPU games, Mitch Keller was pitching a perfect game early in the season, into the 7th inning, but his pitch count was getting up, and I knew the manager was going to make the hook soon. But the manager let him keep going until he allowed one hit in the 7th. He then went to the pen. I feel like that's pretty realistic in today's game.

On the contrary I watched Musgrove pitch a complete game shutout. The only complete game so far in the opening weekend.

Only thing I don't like is you don't get to see the pitch clock in CPU games.

Oh another cool thing! Bo Naylor got his first career hit. His older brother Josh, who's also on the Guardians, got the ball to take to the dugout.

Playing the Mets and the intro for Edwin Diaz coming in to close out the game blew me away. Had me nervous coming up to bat.

Playing against the Tigers and Yandy Diaz pops one up in foul territory on first base side and Spencer Torkelson dives for the ball but dives short.
Singleton says “did he trip? Sniper?” pretty amusing.

What happened to "if it's in the game, it's in the game ?" Fir example, in stadium creator, bull pebs need to be off the field. Most parks have them off the field of play; foul areas to wide, can't adjust the stands to shrink this area, the batters eye should only limit objects in front of the wall, add cursive letters to the letters field, change announcers based on region...not the same guys for all, cut ins of managers going onto the field to argue plays etc. Less gimmicky items like aliens. Dragons, giant Flys 🪰 etc. Pure fans can do without this. It's not in the game!

The "if it's in the game, it's in the game" was an EA Sports slogan. I don't remember SDS ever saying that, but I could be wrong.

Has been in past games, but haven’t seen it for a long time.

Umpire takes a foul ball and collapses on all fours.

Huh. Everything I've looked up says it is. Granted I just got the game a week or so ago, so I haven't had time to try out Road to the Show or anything where I actually play. Only CPU Franchise.

Is the controversial pitch clock MLB rule also present in MLB The Show 23? Or did the game decide it wasn't a necessary feature? Let's find out.

They be wrong! The only pitch clock I’ve heard of is for online play. I don’t play online so I’m not sure there but def none for offline franchise play.

Not gonna lie, the injuries in this game are much more frequent than in recent years. Using slider sets though are a must to get competitive gameplay with CPU

Hit a homerun at Citizens Bank Park and during replay Singleton mentioned how that ball would knock a cheesesteak out of someone’s lap
