    Hitting woes

Hey guys this year hitting seems even more harder. Which I don’t mind but need some tips. Everyone is telling me to pick zone but I’m not good at moving the pci once the pitch is thrown. So if I want to leave the pci a certain spot where would be a good spot. Now if I use directional though I heard it’s been nerfed where do u influence.

    Re: Hitting woes

Think about the pitcher you are facing. If he is a sinker, change up type then anchor down. If he’s a fastball, cutter type anchor high. Also, think about what you are trying to hit. If you need a fly ball then anchor lower so you can get under it. If you need a ground ball then anchor high to get on top of it. Also, think along with the at bat. Do you think he’s going to try and throw a slider down and away or a fastball up and in. Anchor accordingly.

But your problem is more likely a basic one. You have to be patient and swing at strikes. If you are moving the pci a lot then you are probably chasing too much. If you focus on the middle of the strike zobe then you don’t have to move the pci much to hit it. It becomes mostly about timing. You should only be making small movements with the pci. If you are clicking the right stick all over the place then you are moving it too much. I’d the pitch is a strike then you shouldn’t have to move the pci much at all. Be patient, hit mistakes. Don’t swing at crap.

I would put your hitting difficulty down a level, switch to timing hitting only and use guess pitch for now until you can get acclimated. You’re not going to become Shoehei (maybe on pitching) but after awhile you’ll start hitting dingers and adjust accordingly.

          This sounds dumb but...

Watch the entire delivery of the pitcher.

Sometimes I get stuck in this mode of just swinging rather than tracking the ball.
When I am going like this, I tend to just "react" to the pitch instead of following the delivery and watch the ball come out of the pitchers hand.

When I keep my eye on the ball (I know...) it really does translate to better contact (due to better timing) and leads to more walks (because you aren't just reacting last minute).

I use directional and the thing I think I have done more this year than years past is use a contact swing with 2 strikes. I was striking out a ton using just normal but contact at least gives you the chance to put the ball in play. It's helped me a lot so far.

I use directional, always have. I rarely influence the direction only in certain instances.

Not sure if this helps but watch the release point from the pitcher. If you get used to seeing the release point, you eventually can immediately detect where the ball will end up, and therefore you will be able to decide quickly if it will end up in the strike zone of out of the strike zone.

ahhh ok now question is directional better then zone i see so many people use zone is there a big difference. u mention u rarely influence can i do that with zone too just leave the pci in the middle and just wing at good pitches?

People will vary on which is better. Directional which is similar to timing, is based on the hitters ratings/attributes. The PCI isn't controlled by you, only the swing is controlled by you. I can't really speak on zone hitting since i don't use it.

I'm old and only play offline.

I use one button hitting. It's relaxing to enjoy the hitter's stance, see the pitch and hit a button. I use Zoom camera so I can see everything, it's such a beautiful and will be enjoyable game once they tune the lag out of the game. Ratings come into play just fine, the game is hard on Legend. Don't get caught up in just using the cursor to hit, there's a reason there are other options; try them all. I can't imagine just being locked into the cursor in a strike zone camera mode. But if you're playing online and it's a competitive not simulation type of style then you may not have a choice.

                        Re: Hitting woes

If you are using directional without swinging it is timing. Influencing on directional only influences where the ball may go. Holding up, will increase fly ball chance, etc.

But honestly, I will be blunt here.

I would continue with what interface you are using. Keep at it and the hitting will come. I would attribute woes to a cold streak in the game and not as a sign for a needed change. Sample size is key. Keep playing and it will get better. The timing is a bit different this year so adjustments from the user end are needed.

Camera angle is the first adjustment I would make if I was to change something.

Directional without influencing. Take a look at your opposing pitcher and his pitch speeds. If he’s a soft tossed you have to be patient. I use classic batting, retro batting view.

For offline, i use timing with stride. I will say the CPU pitches a lot of balls this year so make sure you’re being patient.

I prefer timing/directional but IMO the difference in that and zone is like the difference between a stickshift vehicle and an automatic transmission. if you have superior stick skills you can get maximum performance from zone while in timing/directional you will eventually hit the ceiling where it then matters less about how superior your stick skills and at a certain point it reaches the limit to where an individual players attribute rating becomes as much an influence as to how well you perform.
but there is no wrong answer as to which is better, it just depends on what youre trying to accomplish
