I just had an inning with Freddie Peralta against the Cubs where he suddenly had no control. Walked 2 guys and then fell behind Bellinger 2-0, had to just throw a FB down the middle to get a strike and he promptly crushed it 400 ft . I think classic pitching is awesome.

Classic pitching is the only option for me. It’s the most realistic, and makes attributes matter.

Find a difficulty that gives you wins/losses at a clip appropriate to the team you are using. Forget about your perceptions of how "good their offense is " stats, and all that crap. And DO NOT adjust ANY sliders (outside of injury/trade sliders if desired). I personally believe that All Star+ is the ideal difficulty in terms of AI behavior/difficulty for folks that use classic/directional, but others seem fine on higher difficulties...so to each his own. But the focus needs to be on wins/losses.

If you're winning and losing (even if you're just seeing low-scoring games initially) I can pretty much guarantee that you will see offense bloom as the season (and your franchise) progress. March/April (and even early May) games are often low scoring in cold weather settings; as the weather heats-up, so does the offense. The whole season will see ebbs and flows.

I also definitely recommend turning off the beginner aids (strike zone, pitch cursor, controller vibration, etc.) if you still have them enabled and pitch from broadcast cam (if you do not already). Also, do NOT follow catcher signs, call your own game.

Most importantly...just play lots and lots and lots of games....
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Wonder if quick counts will make pitching harder? Confidence is something that needs fixed as well…way too easy for a pitchers confidence to go up…pitching too easy as it is…when confidence is up its even more lights out. Could jack everyone’s vision up to 99 may make a difference. Love the days when out of box this game was the standard. Those days are long gone it seems.

I'm playing on hof batting and legend pitching. The only slider change is contact 7 and solid hits 3 for both cpu and hum. The team stats and record are pretty acceptable. I've started over about a week ago with these changes and love the way the game is playing now.
It's still not perfect, but close enough for me.

I can't even blame DD. The game was starting to feel stale before DD was introduced. The game just looks and feels so outdated. Even with Gamepass I don't even play it. I played one game on day one and haven't touched it since.

Do you guys know if there is any way to turn off the home run celebration camera in 23?

They removed the option years ago and it’s a real pet peeve of mine..
I read somewhere that if you use the retro fielding camera it doesn’t trigger, can anyone confirm?

This may be the case. I can't remember anymore.

Of course, I'm just going to assume that they still didn't code it in so that the retro fielding cam allows you to have the delayed transition after contact like the other cameras do. It's something I had asked for and asked for over and over, but it's just again one of those things that was introduced and left in the dust.

Retro cam also doesn't really give you the look of the long bomb home run because it doesn't pull up higher after going over the fence. Once more, just another thing that they coded once and said "We good."

No real broadcast cam still either. Been asking for it forever, where I'd even take the HRD "no doubter" cam style for gameplay even though it's still a bit low like a FOX Saturday Baseball broadcast. 12 years and crickets.

These are the small things that just go to the wayside. There are bigger ones in the gameplay department that just stay stagnant, including items regarding analog pitching, field positioning, grass and dirt physics variation, contact out of the strike zone, trajectory and pull/oppo ratings for hitters, spin effects (which was in one year, though was extreme and removed the very next year), and the list just goes on.

This game is far from perfect and evolved. I of course was really hoping that in the PS5 era they were just going to scrap everything and start over, but now I realize that is just a pipe dream as well.

Until I get a PS5 for other reasons, I'm seeking other baseball video games in my catalog.

How about the challenge system? It’s been in MLB since 2014 and SDS has done NOTHING with it. They put it in the first year and said it would only be at first base for the first season, then it was never touched again. I just turn the whole system off because what’s the point? No challenges for the computer and only at first for the user. This is an actual MLB rule that I guess they just looked at and said “screw it, it doesn’t need to be in the officially licensed MLB game”

So what’s average Strikeouts per game? I hadn’t played in awhile but I checked my stats on where I was in my season. I’m averaging 9.7 so/game in games I played with the Mets staff on Legend. That would put me about 50 about any other team. So I’m a little higher but not drastically.

The highest in baseball this year was 9.62 per game by the Twins. The lowest was the Rockies at 6.96 per game.

The major league average across all 30 teams was 8.6 per game.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
