Are they just the laziest dev team in America? Its infuriating that this is still an issue. Get some damn competition in this market.

And I don't mean to yuck others yum, but I could care less about "legends, and cards, and rosters from the Korean Baseball league!" Give us graphics half worthy of next gen and some more immersion in the game. The rest is such window dressing to avoid actually developing the game.

Calling them lazy is a sure fire way to get yourself banned right outta here. These guys work their asses off every year. Is the game perfect? No. But to call them lazy is such a false and ignorant statement.

          Promotional shot, not gameplay shot.

We should be beyond things like wanting dirt and grass to be rendered properly. Should be onto the extra details like water that splashes when balls are hit into it, and the shrubbery slowing a ball down as opposed to behaving like a holographic wall.
I don’t think the game looks terrible by any means. It doesn’t look like a current gen game but I can live with that for the most part. But the grass and dirt really looks terrible. If they could just fix that it would go a long way.

I can't go to the extreme of using the L word without spending time in their offices observing them work. Probably as far as I could go would be to say Sony has different priorities than I would hope for.

Honestly I would like to just sit down with whoever is head of their graphics department and have a nice, informative conversation about what actual improvements to the visuals have been implemented in these 3 years since moving to the current generation of consoles. Because beyond resolution and performance, and maybe some extremely minor lighting tweaks, I feel like I've been looking at the exact same game for going on 8 years now. Surely they've done something. I just want to know what it is, because it's not particularly obvious.

And I'm not talking about the usual things we see every year like new face scans or stadium updates or uniforms/equipment. I'm asking, what have they been able to do in the last 3 years that wasn't possible in the last generation? I'd be very curious to hear what that answer might be.

This would be a great question for Nick Livingston. I wonder is he still Creative Director.

Only priorities they have is making as much money as possible…DD is their cash cow and gets all the attention…gameplay wise 23 was fantastic…pitching may have been a little easy but hitting/defense felt great…23 played a great game of baseball IMO…graphics wise this game is outdated and I don’t understand why graphics have not been more of priority due to how great the gameplay is and has been…what more can the do gameplay wise…but it definitely appears once again graphics are at the bottom of the list

Yeah, anyone upset with the way Sony does baseball, is not going to like the video game a not-for-profit organisation puts out.

Ok with holier than thou stuff. All I’m saying is we get a reprint now if the same basic game each year without any next gen changes that should have happened two years or at least a year ago. Why? What is the point of a next gen console? What is being done outside of how much money can we make from DD and other things that they throw at us every release like it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread?

Okay so I have no idea where you're getting the holier than thou stuff, and if you noticed, I said the game isn't perfect. I have no problem with your opinion about the game, all I'm saying is that attacking the devs and calling them lazy isn't allowed here in the forums. They add plenty of tweaks to the game year to year that doesn't make it a reprint. Graphically I think the game looks good but it does need updated player models.

They are likely not lazy, but like EA, the progress, or lack of, over the years does make you wonder what they even spend their time doing annually.

I have zero idea as to what the size of the team is, but all I know is it is marketed as a AAA sports game priced at a AAA price point, so I hold it to a AAA standard. It seems the dev team simply does not have the resources to get AAA progression each year with the series. Fortunately, the game isn't in a terrible place, so it's not as toxic as the Madden situation was for years, but this series has definitely slowed down ever since the PS4 launch, really.

I'm not going to act like I know what the issue is. Is it Diamond Dynasty getting the most resources allocated to it? Is it managerial and/or structural issues within the team? Is it the fact that games have hit a point where a one-year cycle really shouldn't be a thing anymore?

Odds are that all 3 of those have some truth to them. I do feel for sports dev teams due to the short annual cycles they have. However, as I said before, the game is marketed and priced to me at a AAA rate, so I have to hold it to AAA standards. Unfortunately, the game's lack of progression each release has me feeling it's not meeting those standards. Fortunately, the game has been on GamePass, so I don't personally have to worry about spending money directly on the game anymore. Unfortunately, baseball is my favorite sport, and this game plays well on the field, but it's lacked development in a lot of my key areas for so long that I hardly play it anymore despite getting it for "free" on GamePass.

I just want to see sports games get back to having features that make you go wow annually as they are not only creative, but they are done well and really add depth to the game. That has definitely not been the case with this series for a long time now. I can basically go back and play my PS4 launch copy of The Show and franchise mode is not much different at all, and it's definitely not because the mode is so deep they don't have room to add much more to it.
“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
