    Re: Showdown Thread

Interesting approach. Maybe I'll try it on my next 1st Inning effort. I just lost that one....again. Probably about my 7th try. Couldn't get past Greinke in the second showdown. This time it was totally my fault. Baserunning blunders resulted in a double play on a bloop hit to right!

After losing that, I decided to do the Starter one again, just for fun. It's probably not the most efficient stub grab, but not bad since I'm really low on stubs.

Draft all hitters (you won't need pitchers at all). Draft 8 position guys that keep the line moving, power is optional. Defense is also not needed. You will have one weak hitting position player. Replace him with the best hitter on your bench, even if it's out of position. You'll get 150+ stubs and quite a bit of XP. It's pretty fun, pretty quick, and hard to lose.

I need to earn some stubs, before the 1st Inning runs out. What are the quickest, easiest stub grab ideas?

EDIT: I forgot to say to skip directly to the Final Showdown. You'll also win Saberhagen again, but he's useless since you can't sell him, and I assume you can't exchange him either.

Showdown and grinding affinity levels are quick stub grabs. Did you do any of the equipment or CAP collections? The CAP collection has 1000s of free stubs for cards you're already collecting anyway.

How do you make these quick? Grinding the affinity levels takes me a long time. How do you make Showdown a quick stub grab? Just trying the Showdowns over and over again and getting the stubs when you win challenges?

I'm sick of trying to grind the showdowns. The Fielding by the cpu just drives me nuts. They 100 percent have the Fielding jacked up with diving plays left and right. I hit at least 10 perfect perfects that went directly to fielders. It just feels like they are stacking the deck.

I really hope they look at the timing windows for hitting. It never feels remotely consistent which is driving me nuts. I can fluctuate from early to let with what seems like the same timing. It just doesn't feel right and it's driving me bonkers.

So at least I have not lost stubs on this run.
And I blew it. Lost both moments I tried today, including the second boss to end the run. At least I did not lose stubs this time.

But that also pretty much guarantees I won't make it to 300 points this inning. If playing the game for close to 90 hours in less than a month can't get me there then there is little hope for me. I won't put that many hours into it every month.

As long as you aren't failing out at the first mini-boss or anything you should easily make your stubs back and then some. I don't have the exact rate at which you earn but I know I've gone into them and out with a good bit more.

The affinity grind you can just do the quicker levels. Like you don't HAVE to grind to 70 for the free packs. But even just loading up your team with a specific team and going into Conquest and grinding the big map will earn you XP and stubs.

That way you're earning towards team affinity AND and the reward path, as well as working towards rewards in Conquest. Granted once you do Conquest once you don't earn the incremental rewards along the way. But you're getting XP that will level you up and earn you cards/stubs, grinding out affinity innings and missions that will help you build there as well.

I got thru conquest for the second time, got Oswalt at 300...and decided to try the 1st inning showdown one more time.....and I finished it....I all most had a heart attack in the final. I scored to tie the game at 7 outs so I had 8 outs to work with.....

Then I started getting pop ups on good timed swings....then I started feeling like doom was coming....with 2 outs left the computer beaned my batter...and then I hit a 2 run bomb to close it out.....

I didn't think I was ever going to complete it.

                  Hey Dolenz,

Where do you currently stand star-wise? I rarely play online, but I ended up playing a bit this year. I got the 15 stars for the 10 events wins, and I earned about 10 other stars for the daily online missions. I am currently sitting at 320 stars though without a showdown win. I also have not come close to 90 hours. Is there possible any easy stars that you are missing?

I am at somewhere between 250 to 260. I could probably get there if I played nothing but MLB The Show the next three days. We will see how it goes. It would probably mean grinding 4 to 5 hours a day for the next 3 days. That sounds more like a job than gaming and the first inning bosses do not really entice me that much.

I will be the first to admit that I am not going to play game modes I don't find fun simply to try and get to 300.

In the end I am just annoyed that they stuck 70 points behind an all or nothing mode and limited normal missions that allowed the player more flexibility.

Got it. I was just hoping there was something out there you might be missing! I am probably 30 hours in on the show so far, but did not have any trouble reaching the 300 mark. Might be my third time hitting it over the past two games. I am with you on showdown. I tried about 5-6 times on the first inning showdown but have no desire to try to compete.

The online dailies give out a lot more points than the offline dailies.

I did manage to get up to 279 to end my day today. So, I should be able to get to 300 as long as my dailies are doable (meaning no exchange Eyewear daily).

That does not mean that I am willing to put in this many hours into each program just to get to 300.

Question: who are some of your 'sneaky good' guys for Showdown? Not gold/diamond guys, but the low tier guys.

I haven't fudged around much with all of the divisions, but I remember hearing something good about Josh Naylor for the NL West and trying him out last night, he RAKES in those veteran missions. I think most people know LaStella is a god for the AL West. Just curious who have been your studs for the mode?

If there's enough interest, we could start up a separate thread....

Estevan Florial, Domingo Santana, Dominic Smith all were beasts for me. Eric Thames too.

Yeah I think he's a bronze or something. Had him in either the starter or 1st inning Showdown and dude was hitting bombs all the time. That was also prepatch tho
