Re: MLB '09: The Show Preview with Screenshots (ESPN Videogames)

A couple questions that someone more technologically inclined than I can hopefully answer (well, the first one)

    1) Do I need a Sony mic/headset to record stuff for the game? Can I just use the random mic I have for my CPU? If not, where do I buy said mic

    2) In-Game MLB Live Scores -- Gamers will get up-to-date reports on what is going on in the Majors including scores and notable status, such as HRs, complete games, etc.

Yes! I was waiting to be able to "backdoor" somebody!

And this game is looking amazing! We're just new player models away from... what... realism?!

By the way, I have a question about this screenshot:

Now I'm no pitcher, but I've done some pitching as well as coaching, and I can't for the life of me think of a situation when a pitcher (Kazmir) would cover third base for a play. I understand backing up the play on a base hit to right with a runner on first (or fly ball to right with a runner on second), but never actually covering the bag. Not only that, but it looks to be the first baseman in that shot since there is no one else at first and he is making an offline throw (which I think is incredible to see after a few too many perfect throws last year). So the play is coming from that side of the field, which seems appropriate enough... but I don't see this as a cut-off play unless it was originally to home, in which the pitcher should be backing up home. I'm just trying to think of what scenario this would be.

Does anyone know exactly what kind of situation would warrant this? Just curious.

"There is also a cool Roster Vault option where gamers can create their own custom rosters and upload them online for other gamers to use."

This feature will bring this game down the path of legendary status. The roster guru's here on OS will absolutely have this game bursting at the seams with realism.

It's not a big deal to me but the Nick Swsicher pic is probably going to be changed. New York Yankee players aren't allowed facial hair except mustaches.

I am assuming Longoria went to go pick up his ROY mid game, and someone had to cover!

Actually....it kinda looks like Longo throwing to Kazmir.

why is there no mention about batting stance guy? They still have the list of Daryl Hamilton,Eric Chavez, Roider Clemens, Trevor Hoffman,Tim Hudson...etc... I think batting stance guy needs to get the credit this year...

                            If they ...

                            1) enable jersey select in franchise (for both teams)
                            2) fix fielder ball proximity issue
                            3) make throwing a bit more intuitive (hard, slow, accuracy)

The rest is gravy to me...

But since you asked... it'd be a GS if

                            1) Be able to pick the stadium you want to play in before any franchise game
                            2) more fielding angles (ball track, action cam, etc.)
                            3) let us use retired numbers (you could have an opt in, on this)
                            4) stadium editor
                            5) franchise creator
                            6) move cities
                            7) real-time scores on in-game scoreboards (user decides b.t this and franchise scores)
                            8) downloadable throwbacks unis
                            9) uni editor/creator
                            10) "the book" scouting reports as pitcher/hitter walks-up/enters game

It looks like they pulled some old info from a previous release sheet and just didnt proofread it well enough. I am sure this is not the case...and they mention that there will be over 150 new batter and pitcher animations.

maybe this means there will be better pitching animations...especially follow throughs...last year a lot of pitchers were releasing the ball way too early in their delivery....looked really funny...like they were throwing like a girl...
