Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here

Well, I just won a game on Legend. It felt kind of cheap, though.

I was Philly and Hamels was absolutely dealing for me. I gave up two hits in five innings, though one of them shouldn't have been (dove with Rollins when I didn't need to).

Kazmir wasn't very sharp, walking two in the first. But I couldn't hit him. He struck out nine in four plus innings.

I finally got my first hit in the fifth and it was a triple by Victorino that hit off the left field fence. The left fielder made an attempt for it but he crashed into the wall and barrel rolled off it. It took him a second to get up which allowed me to go to third.

The next batter came up (Feliz?) and hit a deep fly in foul territoy down the left field line. Instead of letting the ball fall foul, he fielded it which allowed Victorino to score easily from third.

The game was a blast but it would have been pretty cool to see the LF let the ball fall foul.

the same thing crossed my mind, as well.

I would have told Socalbias STFU, and moved on.

I would love that type of AI strategy logic but not sure it is in there.

I gave up a walkoff grandslam to Cole Hamels last night...

Nothing like a Kazmir slider that spins in the middle of the zone....

I actually played a 10-inning game on the demo. (HOF level) It was nice because I got to see a reliever come in, a pinch-runner, and a pinch hitter...it was cool when the reliever got the ball from the (half-white, half-black manager) and he took off his hat and bowed his head as if to say a prayer to himself...kinda cool...also, chris coste's stance is crazy...are there any stances that haven't been changed from last year? It seems like everybody that comes up to bat has a different stance...I noticed this when Greg Dobbs came in, his stance was nice as well...

                    yeah...

The worst part is, I had one out with men on 2nd and 3rd, and I gave Ruiz a free pass to try and set up the double play. Brought the corners in so if its hit to them we'll go home to first, up the middle would be a traditional double play.

I had Hamels down 1-2, tried to throw a slider that started in the zone but was to break off, but it just spun and he popped it out.

Blah, I've given up on trying to DL this thing. I've tried at least two dozen times over the last three days and it never gets past 6%.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait three more weeks.

I know the demo represents a much earlier build of the game, but I hope they noticed and fixed a tagging issue that I've seen a few times while playing the demo. I also saw this same thing happen in MLB 08 but it didn't happen that often so I just overlooked it.

I've only seen this problem occur on plays at second base. What happens is this.............

A runner his headed to second base trying to leg out an extra base hit. The second baseman receives the throw early, bends down to apply the tag but the runner is only about half way between first and second. The second base man stands up prematurely lifting his glove/ball and allows the runner to slide into 2nd safe........very frustrating when this happens, especially when it extends an inning or leads to a run scoring that shouldn't have!!!

I've seen this happen while I was on offense and defense both. But it always seems to happen when the second baseman has to stand there with the ball longer than usual on a typical play at the bag. Like I said, I've only seen it happen maybe twice in 20-30 demo games so it's not a huge thing. I really hope this has been tweaked through their optimization efforts

Other than that, this game is a thing of beauty and I can't wait to get my hands on it!!!!

                          Controller scheme question:

I still think that (when in the field) the MVP series used the R stick the best way. Unlike the Show, where the R stick up is jump and down is dive, you just had to point the R stick in the direction you wanted to dive or jump and the player would react appropriate to the play.

Now pushing the R stick down for a dive to the right or left just doesn't feel natural to me. Ofcourse you can also use the R1/R2 buttons but I just can't seem to get used to the R1 button as jump botton. I want to press R2 for everything haha.

Now I was really stoked when I saw the option in the menu to assign one button (R1 or R2) for diving/jumping and that it will automatically make the right decision in the particular situation (dive or jump). Now in the demo this didn't work that well. When I wanted to dive to a grounder in the infield it would jump etc.
Does anyone know if this will be addressed in the final built?

Maybe I just played too many MVP games but that R stick was just the best

I agree, I'd love for the R-Stick to be used in that manner.

i can't figure out that half breed manager either, because Davey Lopes looks pretty good over at 1st base.
