Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I decided to create a power hitting catcher and have been playing it A LOT. I'm using default rosters, default sliders and the third difficulty (is it called All-Star? I don't remember).
Much to my surprise, I got drafted by the Yankees and hit .273 with 28 HR and 79 RBIs as a starter in AA ball. The next season I get no invatation to spring training and I start out in AA ball but about a week through the season, I get called up to AAA and immediately get the nod to start over Jose Molina. Unfortunetly, I miss three weeks with an injury but still finish with a .284 batting average with 24 HR and 81 RBIs while completing pretty much all of my goals.
In my third season, I get invited to spring training and do pretty well but I get sent down to AAA to start the season. I hit .297 with 30 HR and 85 RBIs and I finally get that September call-up. I got a single in my first MLB at-bat then hit a homerun in my second game. I finished the season hitting .350 in about 25 at-bats with 1 HR. I did not make the postseason roster.
In my fourth year, Jorge Posada retires and all I have in front of me is Kenji Johjima. For some reason, I started the season in AAA even though I was the second best catcher on the roster. ABout three weeks into the season though, Johjima gets injured and I'm starting with the Yankees. I found playing in the MLB full time a lot harder than just getting an at-bat here and there but I finished with a .278 average with 22 HR and 86 RBIs while winning the Rookie of the Year Award. The yankees make the playoffs and I do well, hitting over .300, but we lose in the first round.
Now I'm in the off-season, getting ready to start my fifth year. I'll be 22-years old at the start of the season and here are my grades:
Overall: B
Contact: B
Power: B
Fielding: C
Speed: D
Potential: ACurrently Playing:

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
In my second MLB season, I make the All-Star team and win a gold glove as my line goes .281, 33 HR and 92 RBI. I've even added a little bit of speed (12 SB). The Yankees make the playoffs but lose in the first round, much rests on my lousy playoff performance (sub .250 average).
In my third MLB season, I was hitting for great contact, I just wasn't finding my power stroke. I finished the year with a .317 avg with 18 HR, 95 RBI and 20 SB. The Yankees made the playoffs again and I hit up a storm through the first two series, hitting .378 with 6 HR. I struggle in the World Series but my team still wins and I won playoff MVP.
Here are my current ratings:

Contact - A
Power - B
Fielding - A
Speed - B

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
My contract was up this off-season and the Yankees were being surprisingly cheap. I signed a 4-year, $14 million contract to last me until I'm eligible for FA.
So in 2015, I'm 24-years old. I made an attempt to get switched to third base but it didn't work. Oh well. I still hit .293 with 36 HR, 99 RBI and 22 SB that season, my best season ever. The Yankees miss the playoffs surprisingly though.
In 2016 is when I really break out. I hit .302 with 42 HR, 114 RBI and 28 SB. Wow. I made the All-Star team as a starter, won the Gold Glove and the Hank Aaron award while finishing second for MVP voting. The Yankees made the playoffs once again and won the World Series. I was solid (.280 avg about) but not excellent.Currently Playing:

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I just got a PS3 & The Show and I'm looking to start my RTTS. I plan on reading a lot of this thread over the next day or two, but want some quick opinions about what positions are the most satisfying. I might try being a pitcher eventually, but I think I'd like to start out in the field.
I played a lot of catcher when I played ball, but I also played all over the infield (aside from SS). Can I be a super-utility guy? That kinda fits me to a "T" -- jack of all trades... master of none.Comment

I'd recommend catcher or short stop. At catcher the fielding opportunities aren't great but you get lots of training points since you get points for each putout you make and every strikeout counts as one. Shortstop is also fun because it's easier to make more of a well-rounded, 5-tool player.
I wouldn't really consider pitcher. It's fun through the first year or so then it gets boring.Currently Playing:

Also, be sure to list IF as your secondary position. You'll pretty much play all the time if you do that at different positions.Currently Playing:

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
26-years old now, I hit .296 with 39 HR, 107 RBI and 30 SB. The YAnkees make the playoffs but lose in the ALCS. Here are my career totals so far after 6 seasons:
AVG: .295
HR: 191
RBI: 596
SB: 114
My 7th season was a bust. Through about two weeks I'm hitting .253 with 1 HR, 3 RBI and 3 SB then I land on the 60 DL and I'm out for 6+ months. Yippee. I'm just simming through the rest of the season right now.Currently Playing:

Declined arbitration in the off-season and signed a 6-year, $72 million contract with my hometown Detroit Tigers. A 5-year $70 million contract from the Yankees and a 3-year, $50 million contract from the Astros were my next two choices.Currently Playing:

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I've been simming a lot but I've been trying to play a game every series. In 2019, I hit .304, 35 HR, 100 RBI, 33 SB. I make the All-Star team and win a Gold Glove. The Tigers miss the playoffs.
2020: I have my best year ever, hitting .323, 46 HR, 127 RBI and 41 SB. I make the All-Star team, win MVP and the Hank Aaron award while leading the AL in batting average and home runs. I lead the Tigers to the playoffs but they lose in the first round.
In 2021, 30-years old now, I have 90+ ratings in contact and power, and 80+ in speed and 85+ in fielding. I hit .338 with 47 SB but my power disapears a little, only 22 HR and 94 RBI. What I really enjoy about the Tigers is that they don't have a backup catcher so I'm playing basically every game.
Career stats:
AVG: .303
HR: 294
RBI: 817
SB: 235
Looks like I'm on my way to a HOF career!Currently Playing:

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Just got a PS3 today but I've been playing The Show on PS2 for a while before. I just got an account also. I decided to start out as a 6'5", 230 pound starting pitcher. Amazingly, I get drafted by the Royals and after a solid spring training (4.19 ERA, 2-1) I sign a 2 year, $60,000 contract and I'm sent to the Arkansas Naturals as a reliever. In 10.2 innings pitched, I've gone 1-0 with 11 K, a 1.69 ERA and a .59 WHIP. I'm not pitching anywhere near as good as my stats may indicate though, opponents are hitting the ball hard and far. Can't wait until I get the call to the rotation.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
ah, just hit my first walk off homerun. it was bottom of the 16th inn, tie ballgame, first pitch and when i swung, pandemonium ensues hahaha. not really, just a feeling of happines LOL. it was close to the end of my first season on RTTS and only my 4th homerun. hoping i can improve some of my hitting stats and add a little more power in the next season.Comment

ND, I had the same problem. I started to guess the pitch more and have a upswing. That helped with the power.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
How are all of you getting called up to Triple A so fast? I'm still in Double A in the middle of August, haven't even had a sniff of AAA. At least I'm tearing it up. I am 8-3 with a 2.48 ERA, 98 K and a .87 WHIP. The cool thing is that I have had two straight complete game shutouts! Earned about 1100 points from both of them combined! Now I'm the fourth to last worst SP in the organization!Comment
