after my first season, i got called up to AAA as an OF,and only had d .260 avg, 6 HR 61 RBI. i was kinda surprised, started off slow, but now am at .303 2 HR 12 RBI early in the season.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Finally started one the other night as a starting pitcher, drafted by the Mets. Went with a running fastball, 12-6 curve, and circle change. Since I'm new to the game, I'm only on veteran with reasonable sliders (more or less Bahnzo's ones he gave me). I played all but my last spring training start in one night and tore it up with an ERA around 1.00 and good K/BB numbers (although sometimes I can't throw a strike).

I feel like I need to raise the difficulty or sliders, something, as I shouldn't be dominating major-leaguers with my cruddy guy. On the plus side, my good showing has enabled me to raise my FB velocity from 86-88 to 91-93. I wanted the movement you get with the RFB compared to the 4FB, 'cause Dad always said, "anyone can hit a straight fastball". Next up, getting some speed & bite on my somewhat loopy (but still effective apparently) 72mph curve...

For you pitchers, when did you add another pitch to your arsenal? Right now I have a 95 mph fastball with control in the 70's, a medium changup with speed, control and break in the 60's and a curveball with speed and break in the 60's but a control in the low 50's.

I'm in my second year, middle of June. Should I wait and develop the pitches I already have a little bit more? I have a 2.78 ERA with like 10 K/9 so I'm already mowing down AAA hitters and a 4th pitch would put me over the top.

Also, what pitch should I add? The 12-6 curve is nasty but I already have a curveball. Others I'm thinking of are the slurve, slider and possible a running fastball or a screwball.

Alright, at the beginning of my third year I make spring training and I am the third best SP in the Royals organization. In my first start, I'm super excited, throw the first pitch and Bam! Emanuel Burris lines it for a double. I am loving this!

I added a fourth pitch in my 4th ML season, 6th overall. What pitch to add all depends on the type of pitcher you are. Since the game seems predisposed to make you a power pitcher, I suggest either a slider, which is a nice strikeout pitch, or a sinker which will get you some nice groundballs, particualrly helpful for getting those much needed double plays.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Well, I finally finished my RTTS career by simming a lot. After my contract was up with the Tigers, I was a 34-year old catcher but still had A in every catagory except contact and speed. I signed a 10 year, $40 million contract with the Red Sox (they were the best team, I wanted to add a few more World Series rings to my collection, already had 3 at the time). I also switched to 1B which was nice since I didn't have to train as much for arm strength/accuracy, speed and blocking.

I played until I was 43-years old and my attributes were declining so much I retired. I hit .248 with 22 HR and 74 RBI in my last year. Here were my career stats overrall:

                AVG: .309
                HR: 682
                RBI: 1950
                SB: 428

My best year came with my last year with the Tigers where I hit .326 with 56 HR and 162 RBI and 52 SB. Made the Hall of Fame.
                Currently Playing:

MLB 10: The Show - Detroit Tigers
NHL 10 - Detroit Red Wings
NBA Live 10 - Miami Heat

Yea, it's probably a better idea to wait. Maybe I max out some of my attributes and then add a new pitch.

Anyways, I finished my rookie season and went 10-5 with a 3.04 ERA and 110 K. I was on pace for a 15 win, 175 SO season but then I got injured. I recovered from my injury in mid-September but for some reason they never pitched me for the rest of the year.

So far in my second MLB season, I'm 1-1 with a 2.54 ERA and 29 K through four starts. I've been on the trade block a lot these past few years and most recently, I'm rumored to be going to the Yankees (that's what the rumor mill says). I'm a big Royals fan and I like playing for them but I don't know how many 100 loss seasons I can take from now on. I would be fine getting traded to the Yanks.

I'm about a month into my first season playing SS in the Braves organization. In spring training, I put every bit of training in contact vs. RHP. My contact numbers are very good for AA ball 60 something vs. RHP and around 45 vs. LHP, but my power numbers are around 30. However, the CPU pitches me like I'm Barroid Bonds. Can't get them to throw me a strike for anything. I've got the sliders tuned to my favor for my RTTS thinking the CPU might actually pitch to me, but to no avail. Some people might like to draw walks and such, but I am already tired of watching the game play with itself. Does anybody know of sliders/settings that can give me a chance to have fun this game? I'm frustrated enough to give up on the show series entirely, which is a shame because it seems to be a great game.
It is my divine right as a Cowboys fan to EXPECT a Super Bowl win EVERY year!

I'm pretty sure there's a slider for CPU control - you should think about increasing that.

There are some STACKED teams on my RTTS. One of them is the Braves:

                        Rotation:
                        Felix Hernandez
                        Justin Duchscherer
                        Tim Hudson
                        Derek Lowe
                        Javier Vazquez

                        Lineup:
                        C Brian McCann
                        1B Albert Pujols
                        2B Kelly Johnson
                        3B Ryan Zimmerman
                        SS Yunel Escobar
                        LF Carl Crawford
                        CF Ryan Freel
                        RF Brad Hawpe

They're only second in their division which is surprising.

Anyways, I've been doing pretty good with my pitcher. In my second MLB season, I'm still with the Royals although I thought I was on the verge of getting traded. My stat line is this with 5 scheduled starts left:

                        12-4
                        2.67 ERA
                        178 SO
                        1.07 WHIP

I made the All-Star team again. If I could just a little more run support, I might be in Cy Young contention but that's a lot to ask for the 30th ranked offense in the league, lol. Billy Butler is our only player with a .300 average and only Aaron Rowand has more than 15 HR and we're in late September.

I'm a pitcher but I've played around with a few position RTTSs. 1B and C are good positions if you just like to hit. OF isn't really that fun to play, the fielding camera is kind of messed up. I think 3B is probably the best fit if you're trying to make an all-around player.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I've been simming every game for the past three seasons since the game just isn't as fun when you've maxed out all of your attributes but I still want to continue. I ended my Kansas City tenure with two straight 20-win seasons and 100 wins overrall (6 yrs) and a career 2.50 ERA. I averaged about 200 SO per year as well. The Royals came close to making the playoffs a few times but never finished with more than 85 wins so I kind of wanted to go to a contender. Luckily, my contract was up after my 6th MLB season so I was a free agent.

I held out from signing a contract until early Februry when I had three offers left on my board: the Braves, Phillies and Dodgers. That Braves offer looked pretty tempting (5 yrs, $100+ million) but I wanted to wait a little longer to see if the Yankees would offer. Well, I guess I waited too long and all of the teams withdrew their offers so I was stuck without a team and had to try out for a team in spring training. I chose the Yankees, simmed spring training then they offered me a 6 yr, $132 million contract ($22 million per year). I accepted and I simmed most of that season and the Yankees were unstoppable. They finished with 114 wins and I finished with a 24-7 record, a 2.57 ERA and 238 SO. I won my fourth Cy Young in seven years. I'm just about to start the playoffs now.

What level are you guys playing on? I'm on HOF but I've only actually played games 4 times during the past two years.
