So, quick question. I'm a pitcher, first off. Now, does the 1B ever go back to 1B on a double play ball hit to him? Every time, even when he is like 3 steps off the bag, he just stands there and waits for me to get my slow butt over there.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
In my second year in the show with my CF counterpart... I'll post updates a little later, but had to say this... I love breaking out of a slump. I was 0-10 in the past 2 games, and was starting to worry about my guy. Next game, just started being a little more patient at the plate, and went 5-6 with a HR (1st of the season) 2 doubles, 2 singles, and 4 RBI, pushing my averge to back above .310. Still in AAA, but if I can continue to see the ball, then I think I'll make the show by the end of the season, if not, hopefully at least get a Spring Training invite.
Just a question, how can I improve my HR numbers? My power is still low, in the upper 30's. Just having trouble keeping everything from declining, and still upping other attributes.
Any suggestions? What categories are more important than others to increase? I'm a 70 speed, and mid 60's contact right now in my 2nd year.Twitter - WTF_OS

i hope this helps
please bear in mind i did this because my 10 yr vet died in the sept batting bug
my 24 year old switch hitting LF is now running amock for the Redsocks
so im going to run through a few observations and thoughts
1. go into global settings and turn off injuries
nothing is worse than getting red hot with the bat looking like a certainty for AA All Star Starter and then joe blogs gets hurt and your riding the pine in the MLB getting pinch hit opportunities and trying to keep your stats going
2. if and when you make the MLB squad after spring training (20 years old and riding the Pine) FAIL YOUR GOALS- keep your stats up but dont "upgrade your Contact" or whatever. Do that twice and your demoted to starter at AAA where your more likely to earn more points and get better stats you will improve quicker and be more likely to keep your job as and when you get in as a starter in the Show.
3. It is better to fail your goal than let your stats decrease- given a choice on the last day of your goals between upping your "Left handed contact"( a goal) or stopping durability from plumetting - protect what you ve already got. you can fail a goal with out any problems as long as you dont fail the next set plus almost always its the same goals, same targets, much easier to get second time around.
4. easiest way to get points improve your dbunting and speed I kind of ignore batting practice for LH pitchers and use it to drag bunt instead- get it to 40 plus range and you can even drag bunt on two strikes if need be- but its also good for keeping that hitting streak going
two on no outs and your being asked to drive the run in for 25 points? early on this is a Double play waiting to happen, try drag bunting and moving the players around
get throw out its -5 points
make it on 1st base its 15 points plus it improves your streak/ave/ hotness(you know what i mean)
5. Durability- the higher the better more at Bats more games started less Pinch hitting more points you get the idea
6. Clutch- 50 is the breakeven point( i think) your not affected by pressure situations in any way up or down. if your clutch is 80 points then you are a monster with the bases loaded and 2 outs- as far as i can test it its a power and hitting and vision bonus-
In my last RTTS my 2nd baseman that died of the september batting bug I was 28 and averaging .325 a season with HR at about 20-25 and 80-100 RBi's (for the last 2 years)
as a 24 yr old LF im hitting .402 19HR 56 RBi's with 32 stolen bases- just throught the All Star weekend
I won the silver slugger last year and a golden glove and im in with a good shout of the MVP this year. In 4 years less time by following the guidlines above im a better player attribute wise.
Now I did it this way to get back to where I was before I lost a 10 year career with my 2nd baseman may he rest in piece, I accept its manipulating the system and not for everyone but it produces better results, quicker which is what I was after- hope it helps"whats wrong with him?""he's got a concussion boss""can he play?""boss he does nt know who he is!""well tell him he's Pele and get him fecking back on"BFR manager of WBA 1978Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Best stats to increase are probably Durability and Power. It always irritated me that a young player would wear out and be forced to take days off several times a week. But it is what it is. Now that I'm in season 5 of my shortstop and he has a 97 Durability, he doesn't have to miss many games. I think he missed one game in April. Unfortunately it takes a LONG time to see many results from Durability.
Power improves your hitting a lot more than Contact or any other batting stat. Weak grounders get through more often, line drives drop in or carry over the fielders, fly balls go over the fence, etc.
Durability gives you more ABs, Power allows you to do more with those ABs. Both of which will allow you to get more points.
Unless you are a bench player and trying to get a starting job, you don't need to pass all your goals. It's probably a good idea to not fail 2 sets of goals in a row though. They get mad when you do that and might demote you or send you to the bench.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
That's terrible - I am in season 6 in my RTTS (although I haven't played it in a couple of weeks) and Baltimore is the worst team in the league every year! 100+ losses annually!Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I was happy to be drafted by the Twins and I was traded to Baltimore as well. However I asked for a trade because I wasn't playing enough.
I got called up to AAA by Baltimore in my first season and I am now on the Orioles to start 2010. My stats weren't even that good! I have no idea how I was called up.
I hit like .290 in AA with 6 HR's and a little over .300 in about 20 AB's with 1 HR in AAA.
I went 2-4 in my MLB debut in a 4-3 win over Texas. I am a role player though, so we'll see if I get the shaft like most in this thread.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
My suggestion to people who just started an RTTS character is make sure you want to play for the team that drafted you. Or even better, just pick the team you want to start with. You'll be on that team for about 8 years, so make sure it's the one you want
I on the other hand, am stuck with the Brewers.

RTTS pitchers.... Do you find that no matter what if a ground ball goes up the middle you can't field it? I can't even count all the ground balls that have gone through my pitcher.USC Trojans -- Washington Nationals -- Jacksonville JaguarsComment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I got the call up in my RTTS after year 2... Went through Spring and made the team as a utility player. Couldn't get enough AB's to obtain the points to acheive my goals, and have been promptly sent back down to AAA. Hopefully I can upgrade my Power, Clutch, and Durability before year end.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I wouldn't always. I have fielded a lot of grounders, but there are many that I didn't get to try and field. But I think it has to do with your fielder reaction time. I don't think I've been over 50. I think I'd probably get to field a lot more of those if I was in the 70's or 80's, but I don't know.A screaming comes across the sky...Comment

First career HR
So far I'm not getting many AB's with the O's and I have a feeling I may get sent back to AAA. I'd rather get some AB's because I'm struggling in The Show. I need to work on my discipline at the plate, and when you get to the Bigs and face Josh Beckett and Zack Greinke you need to be ready!
I'm in 2010 (2nd year) and I'm 5-22 so far with 7 K's. I've had to face some tough pitchers!
I'm a utility guy right now and I'll likely be sent down to AAA unless somebody gets injured.Comment
