Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Is it just me, or do you guys go through HR droughts?
Sometimes I go a few weeks hitting almost everything out of the park. Then it seems like I can't hit a HR for the life of me for weeks and weeks.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
So in the year 2015 I'm finally on the MLB Opening Day Roster!! Hopefully I wont be sent down to AAA and this will finally be my first full year in the majors. Thats the good news, the bad news is I play for the dreaded Baltimore Oriolers. So far we are 2-8. Our pitching is absolutely atrocious. 4 out of 5 starters are either rookies or 2nd year players. Only one player in the rotation has an actual picture lol. And he isnt doing too well either. Anways so my 1st AB on Opening Night against CC Sabathia and the 2014 World Champion Yankees I hit a HR!! That was our only run and we lost 10-1.
My stats through 10 games...
BA: .304
HR: 1
RBI:7
Doubles: 1
Triples: 0
SB: 4
Our Lineup is almost as bad as our pitching. We are only scoring 1-2 runs per game it seems like. The only All-Star Calibar player we have is Grady Sizemore.
Hopefully I get traded!! But I dont want to lose my starting job if I get traded.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
First time playing MLB The Show and RTTS is addicting. I'm in my second year currently as SS with the Houston Astros.
First year ST I was terrible. Batted .170 and struck out in about half of my AB. Signed with AA to play off the bench but after a week starting SS got injured and after batting .380 in the ensuing month I was given the starters job. Then another month in the starting SS for AAA was injured and I was moved up. Hit .340 with 1 HR and 34 RBI for two months. Then on a very bad AB I attempted to hit a HR on a ball outside the zone and apparently tore a tendon. Out for the year (Bad year for SS's in the minors apparently).
Second year I was put on the MLB roster as a utility player. Basically only pinch hit and spot started for the first month. Not getting any advancement goals or batting all that well (.250) Then Kaz Matsui got hurt and I was starting at Second Base. Batting average in May has gone from .250 to .340. Even more inexplicable I hit 6 HR's in May. I hit two the year before. I have a 48 Power rating. At this moment I have hit HR's in 5 straight games. It's inexplicable.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Yea me too well, I got my first call up after 3 seasons I think. But I would only get called up if there was an injury or as a September Call-up so I played no more than a month or two at a time before being sent down back to AAA. Now it looks like I'm finally done with the minors and I'm the Starting LF with the Oriolers for now and the future. I really dont have any competition at all at my position. Anyways I'm killing the ball so far I'm almost done with the April here are my stats through 17 games.
BA: 414
R:11
RBI:15
HR:5
SB:6
K:2
Walks:1
Doubles:2
Triples:0
But my team is 3-14!!!! We have got to be the worst team in the Majors. We are almost last in every statistical category lol. And its not like were losing heartbreakers in the 9th, we lose like 10-1, 11-3, 9-2 type games. So far me and another young player are the only bright spots on the team.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Here's the story of Tim McGee:
I decided to start as a lefty-hitting 3B and enter the draft. I was picked by the Seattle Mariners, but since I feel my virtual guy should almost definitely be a prima donna, I sat out the 2009 season to await contract offers in the winter.
After declining the Padres and Giants a myriad of times, I finally got some interest from other teams and eventually signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Tigers as a AA bench guy.
It didn't take long for me to make my mark in Erie, as I hit a walk-off grand slam in my first start and became the starting third baseman in a matter of only two weeks. Over the next few months, I consistently hit about .330 with occasional homers and RBIs from the third spot in the lineup. I made the All-Star team and was a catalyst in the SeaWolves' rise from cellar-dweller to playoff contender.
As the summer began to conclude, my continued advancement goal success finally resulted in a call-up to AAA Toledo. While Erie was a hefty 6 games behind the competition in the Wild Card race, the Mud Hens were only one game behind division leader Columbus with a few weeks to play.
Not surprisingly, I struggled to adapt to the speed of AAA early on and didn't see much playing time. Clutch hits and the passing of those pesky advancement goals allowed me to become the starter with only two weeks remaining in the regular season.
By this point, the Mud Hens and Clippers were in a dead tie for first place, with 7 games between the two quickly upcoming. Toledo eventually won 5 out of the 7 and clinched the division on the season's final day, earning the right to play the IL's best in the Gwinnett Braves in round one.
Thanks in large part to my .445 playoff average, the Mud Hens bounced the favored Braves in 4 games and swept Lehigh Valley for the International League title, their first since 2006. Toledo also won the Bricktown Showdown by a 2-0 count against Omaha.
I managed to secure a roster spot on the Tigers right out of Spring Training in 2011 and haven't looked back. I homered in my first career MLB at-bat (in Kansas City, against Brian Bannister) and have managed a .240 average off the bench. I expect to unseat Wes Helms as the starter before long and have a successful and exciting career in Detroit.Last edited by gotigers15; 05-17-2009, 09:07 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Scott Goin, SS, Seattle Mariners continued...
Note: Moved from All-star to Hall of Fame level after last season's big numbers.
Year 5: For the first time, I was given the starting SS job right out of Spring Training. We had picked up Prince Fielder in the offseason and had a A potential rookie left fielder join the club so things were looking up. But fate had different plans.
The Mariners started off badly. We weren't hitting. Our pitching was putrid. Our young left fielder was injured and placed on the 60-day DL, forcing us to play Aubrey Huff (our DH) in LF. That certainly didn't help our cause. By the end of June we were 13 games under .500 and 6.5 games out of first place.
But then an amazing comeback happened. Our left fielder got healthy and started tearing the cover off the ball. Our pitchers settled down. We won about 80% of our games for the next two months. By the end of August, we had gone 10 games over .500 and taken over 1st place in the AL West. By October, we had won 90 games and the AL West for the 3rd time in 3 years and once again pitted against the rival Boston Red Sox in the playoffs.
My personal year had a lot of ups and downs early on. There seemed to be a lot more pop ups and grounders in HoF level but I eventually got my swing going and had another top notch year. In the last week of the season, I took advantage of a slump from ARod and managed to win the MvP award for the second year in a row.
My basestealing skill grew a lot. I finally realized that you can force a head first slide by pushing up on the right stick and that helped me along with my newfound speed and base running ability. I almost joined the 50-50 club but missed 50 HRs by 2.
My durability helped me get 670 ABs and made offensive goals much easier.

Post-Season:
After losing to the Red Sox for 2 straight years in the playoffs, I had a healthy dose of fear going into the matchup. First game, we managed to squeek out a 3-2 win. The second game, no one could get any offense and we lose 2-1. The third game gave me some hope as finally got some runs and won 6-3. The Red Sox were on the ropes.
Game 4 was another pitchers battle. I kept hitting balls right at fielders with men in scoring position and we lose 3-2.
Game 5 was over before I even took an at-bat. Our starting pitcher gave up 9 runs in 4 innings as, once again, the Mariners were ousted from the playoffs by the Red Sox.
Spring Training, Year 6:
Hope springs eternal but a heavy blow was dealt in the offseason as Ichiro, who always seemed to be on base for me to knock in, finally decided to retire at the age of 40. For some reason, we didn't sign any free agents for right field and we ended up with a Rule 5 player we had signed the previous year. The guy had hit like .200 with no homeruns in 80 ABs. Ouch.
Although we also lost our closer, Brandon Morrow, fortunately we upgraded a bit at catcher with Mike Napoli and picked up Fausto Carmona to shore up our meager pitching rotation. Our offense won't be as good without Ichiro but maybe our pitching will be better.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
The best way to get more points is to be on a good offense. RBI and Runs give a lot of points over the course of a year. My first 3 years, I was on bad offenses. In the 2013 season though, we we're 3rd in offense behind only the Red Sox & Yanks. Grady Sizemore, Prince Fielder, Aubrey Huff, and our great young left fielder (from the draft) really helped. I think my 10 year/5 million dollar contract has allowed them more financial flexibility too.
I'm not sure exactly what Vision affects. I've heard that it allows you to foul off more pitches. Not sure. I've never really raised Vision or Discipline and I haven't had any problems hitting. If they do affect certain things, it hasn't affected me much.
What I do know is that Contact stats increase the size of your PCI. I started off only putting training points in Contact vs Right Handers. My PCI against right handers was much bigger than against lefties. Once I improved contact vs lefties, the PCI's were roughly the same.
As I said before, I could hit okay once I learned how to focus on the pitcher's delivery/release point and how to adjust my PCI/timing. But I didn't make the big leap in hitting until I started improving my power stats. The harder a ball is hit, the less likely a fielder can get to it.Comment
