Seeing as how Russell was inviting people to play online, I don't think they mind much.

I can't speak for them, obviously, but as long as the product is scanned and sold, they get their credit, right? And, street dates have been confirmed to be enforced by the MLB. I think it's no harm, no foul. Happy gamers spend more money.

I'm not lucky enough to have the retail version yet (tomorrow!) but my main problem with hitting in the demo was getting used to the faster bat speed this year. As soon as I adjust to that I think I'll be hitting fine again. I am thankful for the faster bat speed this year.

I think the hitting is perfect this year. I play All-star default with pitch speed slider all the way down. The best thing about hitting is you can now use guess pitch without it feeling like your cheating. If you don't guess the right pitch and location it becomes very hard to make good contact on the ball. You almost have to wait to guess the right location and pitch so you can get a solid hit. This, to me, is realism, as many MLBers are looking for a certain pitch in a certain location, if they don't get it, they do the best they can

Also you really don't need it if you use the method that somebody posted. Just move the left stick before the pitch to a certain location either inside or outside. If the pitch is there swing if it isn't don't. It is essentially works the same as the guess pitch feauture but it is actually how hitters in real life do it and it is far more rewarding IMO.

Whatever floats your boat though but personally I do not use any aids in baseball games because it takes away from the game being a sim IMO.

just to chime in again, the retail verson is different (and better) than the demo, the demo was easier IMO for hitting.

another side note you have to use the power swing alot more, for things like doubles and triples which is great, however alot of you guys saying this is what I wanted, well so did I. I wanted hitting to be harder, but not while im on veteran lol. but owell, practice makes perfect

I agree that last year the guess pitch was cheating, but this year I feel like they really penalize you for guessing incorrectly. If you think about it you only have a 1 in 36 chance (if a pitcher has 4 diff pitches) of guessing exact pitch and exact location, so when you do get the guessing exactly right you should be rewarded, just like if a player is looking for fastball inside, if they get it, they are going to recognize it immediately and smash it. I would argue that using guess pitch this year makes it harder to make solid contact then if you weren't using it at all

the tip that i read somewhere that worked for me was to turn the difficulty down to rookie, find your rhythm/timing, then switch it back up to a harder difficulty, and you'll be set.

Sorry to go a little OT, but has pitching received a similar bump in difficulty? In the demo it was hard to tell because its basically two aces. I'm wondering if bottom of the rotation/mediocre relief can feel genuinely challenging to play with this year. Anyone have a sense of this yet, either way?

I guess I'm in the opposite camp from a lot of you guys. Last year HoF was just about right for my hitting skill (which is thoroughly average), but pitching was way way too easy. I tried all sorts of sliders and I was still consistently dominating the AI with the likes of Paul Byrd. Lots of low scoring games to say the least.

I agree with Knight, there should be asymmetric difficulty settings for pitching and hitting. People are naturally going to be better at one or the other, so give us the option to balance the game accordingly.

I just got 4 runs and 8 hits off Kazmir in the demo, on All-Star. Could have had 5, but I misjudged a Howard bomb off the wall as a home run, so I didn't bother having Utley go from 2nd to home.

I've found the best strategy is to pick a side of the plate and the pitchers best fastball. That way, I can sit on a fastball, or a breaking/off speed pitch.

The only time I use the power swing, is when I have correctly guessed both the location and the pitch. Any other time, I use the contact swing, mainly because you can pull it back on close pitches for check swings. I've hit a couple home runs with the contact swing, it's still very possible.

I completely agree with. The difficulty is right where it should be. I sau just lower the difficulty if you can hit on HOF or Allstar. I'm loving the fact that it's harder now to hit. It makes it more of a challenge and realistic. Hitting is not easy in real life so this game is being a real sim in replicating that.

Not true

You beat me to it.

Normal swing does it all. I use normal exclusively and no problems with doubles, homeruns, even triples with the fast guys.
