hmm well i was in the first spring training game. I just pinch hit for the pitcher in the inning before and then it goes to the bullpen and says a position player is on the mound and i hit OK. Then i pick a pitcher and it brings up the window and pick 'Put him in the game' and then it says he must be pitch to a batter. There's no double switch option either. Kinda wierd, i'll try it out again today.

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Glad to hear there's a quick menu. That was annoying in 08.I love that there is a quick menu now when you are pitching so you can go to the bullpen or make dif. alignments. Just tap L2 before you pitch to bring up the menu.
I also which you could put players on Injury reserve. For instance I wanted to put Dustin McGowan on IR since he won't be playing until at least May, but there is no option for this, so I simply tried to send him to AAA but it said he had no minor league options left and would have to clear waivers. So I tried this and we was claimed immediately. Is there anyway to fix this??
I hope there's a disabled list. It would be pretty tough to carry a couple of injured guys on your roster.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Hey guys, I'm yet another 360 owner interested in The Show '09 for PS2. Before getting the 360, I played MLB 06, The Show 06, and The Show 07, and loved all three of them. I remember slight issues with the framerate in '07, but only on balls hit into play, and NOTHING like what you see in 2k8 or 2k9 next-gen (sadly). I bought 2k9 for 360, and the glitches & bugs are atrocious. If they fix them, it could keep my attention. But either way, I plan on picking up The Show for $29.
Question: If you showed me only the gameplay from 2007 and 2009 side by side, would I be able to tell any difference? Don't get me wrong, the gameplay was always great, but I'm just wondering if they bothered to make ANY improvements on a last-gen title.
Also, is there still no option to play abbreviated (6 inning) games in a Franchise mode? One of the (only) things that 2k gets right is their customization for franchises--people like me who find it hard to set aside 40 minutes+ every time we want to play baseball struggle with 9 inning games. In 2k9, you can shorten the innings for both your games AND the simulated games around the league. You can also play 54 game or 108 game seasons. Too bad about no in-game saves in The Show...this should be a no-brainer for ALL sports games.
Do they still do the weekly roster updates on PS2? I remember thinking that was revolutionary in 2007!
Thanks a TON!Comment

I'm fuzzy on how gameplay was in 07...but 09 compared to 08, I can tell the difference, so I can assume you would tell an even bigger difference between 09 and 07.Hey guys, I'm yet another 360 owner interested in The Show '09 for PS2. As for abbreviated games...I haven't started or messed around in franchise mode yet, but I do know that in the L2 quick menu, there is an option to skip ahead a half inning/full inning, etc. I'm not sure if that is good enough for you or not, depends what you're trying to accomplish.
There were weekly roster updates for the PS2 during 08, so I would assume it will still be the same this year although I don't believe the first roster update is working *yet*.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Sidenote: Having a PS2 still kind of feels like a secret society. There's all these PS3 people running around with their roster problems and lineups changing to ridiculous things and all that...while we're on the PS2 with no real problems to speak of. If only those people with "GOTTA HAVE NEXT-GEN RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW" embedded in their brains would see the light, they'd get to play a much much better game.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
well i've figured a easier workaround. When it says the guy has to pitch to at least one hitter, if i just throw a ball, i can then bring in a reliever. Still sucks though, the boxscore is all messed up with like 3 position players having 0 IP thrown. Hopefully its just a Spring Training issue.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Alright so I had the roster issue answered sorts above me. However can someone go into franchise and tell me if the schedule is right, as in the teams have the right amount of afternoon games. An easy way to check this is too just see if the cubs play afternoon games on days other that sunday. This would be slot of help.Comment

I agree; I got burned on 360 with Madden and NCAA, but now have come back to the PS2 for most of my sports gaming needs.Sidenote: Having a PS2 still kind of feels like a secret society. Kle, have you been able to get updated rosters yet? The one update I downloaded doesn't work.Currently Playing:

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
I actually just tried to get online for the first time in a while, and I keep getting an error message for some reason:
Network Error (-610)
Connection to the DNAS server failed.
I've tested my connection through the network utility tool and it says it's fine...is anyone else having this problem? Is the network down? Or is it something on my end?Comment

I was just on 45 min. ago and connected no problem. The rosters still weren't working. You download the update and then go to view the rosters and none of the changes show up.I actually just tried to get online for the first time in a while, and I keep getting an error message for some reason:

I'm sure SCEA is working hard on the issue and will have things ready to go. Perhaps they are just going to wait until next week and release Weeks 1-2 as a combo; gives them a few more days to make sure they have things working correctly.Currently Playing:

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Just spent the last 3 hours doing the rosters/lineups (Ichiro is batting 3rd and Helton is batting lead off on default
) Fired up a franchise with the Marlins.
1st Game- vs. Nationals. I lose 9-8 (score wasn't really that close as I was getting killed most of the game). However, the Nationals scored 9 runs on ZERO home runs and ONE double. Nolasco was pitching like crap as well. I walked 4 batters through the first 3 innings. I love this game
