You make a very good point. The players in the game use stamina as well as other factors. And in close games, if you have better gloves on the bench with the lead late, utilize them!!!

the thing that just bothers me most overall is that its predictable now. i don't care if the computer comes back to tie or win or anything like that cause i have to put some of that blame on myself as well for either not piching/fielding/hitting well. and believe me i loveeeee this game and its realism. but in 9 straight games i have seen the computer come back every single time and i just feel like i know its coming. so i'll even try to catch the batter off gaurd with different pitches and locations but it just seems innevitable that they are destined to tie the game or take the lead. where as in real life you won't necessarily see comebacks in every single game. but anyways not gonna change anything for me just gonna continue on playing and see what happens. i'll probably end up restarting my franchise over again anyway when the latest roster before opening day comes out. until then i'll just play and practice harder;-)

re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)

This is what I've seen lately on All-Star default settings, after the 6th inning "something" happens to the CPU AI. Call it a boost, momentum shift, or a raise in confidence. Call it what you will, but it seems as soon as the CPU gets one man on, their offense becomes "superhuman". They seemed locked in at the plate. I use the meter when pitching and early in games I continually mow the CPU down. Most games, when using #1-2 SPs I will give up 0-1 runs through 6 IP. I will often get on runs when I retire 9 plus batters. I feel in control and even get by making some mistakes in location. Then comes the "dreaded 7th inning". It seems late in games (7th-9th innings) the CPU lineup crushes anything remotely close to the zone and things unravel rather quickly. I feel that any pitch that isn't dead nuts on the white line is whacked. It seems to be that mistakes that I got away with earlier in the game are absolutely TATTOOED later in the game. It feels like NCAA Football 2 years ago when a team gets momentum it's really, really tough to gain it back. If I score a few runs early and gain a lead and don't put the game out of reach it seems to come back and haunt me lately. It seems that if I don't chase the CPU SP early and let him off the ropes then it's almost certain to come back and bite me in the later innings. It's appears that the momentum is bound to shift and usually does. There has to be "something" to it. It's more like my guys play tight and scared and the CPU plays aggressive and loose. I'm sticking with the term momentum to describe it. I have to break human nature and if you do the same things over and over again it it's not working, it's time to change up something (ie. location, pitch selection, RP usage). There are too many guys that are seeing the same thing in late innings to say there isn't "something" going on. I would just like for the SCEA team to say something about it. It seems that human error mistakes on the meter later in the game are magnified 10X then earlier in the game.

BTW, why would SCEA incorporate the option for "comeback"? I know it's off on default but to have it even in the game seems arcade like to me. What's the purpose? If it's an option then maybe, just maybe the code could be broken and slip into games when it's turned off.

To be honest I never watched a cpu only game. I would not even know where to start to break that down. Out of curiosity what team are you using? Do you see the same results with the 4 and 5 starters as well?

Again, like I said in the impressions thread, you guys are probably not pitching well enough yet. This isn't MLB the Show 08.5, it's a new game with new strategy.

You have to vary up speed and location. Work high to low, high speed to off speed. Don't be afraid to stop in the yellow or even not make it to yellow, it just improves the accuracy of the pitch.

And for those who don't see errors...play with or against the Marlins. They are proof positive that there are errors in this game.

This happens from the #1-#5 starters. I usually play Oak but have seen it with some other teams. I've played Oak against NYY and SFG, two diff types teams whereas results should be varied. I've created new pitchers and hitters on the team as well so that the team rankings are better than the default A's.

Note, Ive been watching CPU games from HH - MVP - The SHow. Out of all 3, The Show has been the most difficult to get score disparity. I noticed it in last years game but it seemed to work better in HOF. This year it doesnt seem that way. I'm wondering if i do activate the comeback code waht would happen differently?

I was going to suggest that to see if it made a difference. I do not know if it is viable in a cpu only game though.

re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)

Here's an example of the last game I played.

                    Phillies (me) @ Dbacks (CPU)

                    Settings: All-Star, default sliders

Before I get into it, maybe it has something to do with momentum of the home team. Do teams get a boost late in games at home from the home crowd?

                    Pitching: Hamels vs. Scherzer

In the top of the first I really made Scherzer work. He threw over 30 pitches, walked 2, gave up a 2-run blast to Utley, and gave up another 2B. He was shaky, but got out of the 1st trailing only 2-0 as I left a man on 2nd and 3rd. Phillies 2-0.

Hamels is cruising along vs. the very free swinging Dbacks. I had a perfect game going thru 4 1/3 before a giving up a 2B and 1-run in the 5th making it 2-1 Phillies. As you can see Scherzer settled down thanks to better pitching and poor patience at the plate by me. Scherzer throws gas and was having difficulty early locating his cheese. He made an adjustment as he turned to his 2-seamer and change to keep me off balance. I tip my cap to him and he really kept his team in the game. Hamels at one point in the 4th had thrown only 35 pitches (5 balls). I was locked in as I was painting the corners with his running fastball, darting change up, and an occational curveball. Everything I threw was on the black. I started to feel sorry for the Dbacks hitters. The problem is that my offense couldn't extend the lead and allowed the Dbacks to hanging in the game. Maybe if I was up 5-0 and chased Scherzer it would have deflated them and a different outcome would have happened. I'm not sure.

As we approach the bottom of the 7th (Phils up 3-1) Hamels had only allowed 2 hits, no walks and he was in complete control throwing 65-70 pitches at this point. Then all hell broke loose. A lead off 2B, a HR (warm up Eyre & Durbin), BB, 1B......Durbin comes is 2B, 1B, BB....game is out of hand. I end up losing 7-5.

It all happened so fast. The CPU swung and it everything I threw up there. Hamels only threw 8 pitches in the 7th and gave up a 2B, HR, BB, 1B. It seemed that no matter what I threw, no matter what location, and at whatever speed it was going to get smacked hard.

I'm not bitching (just scratching my head). This is only one of many, many games the last 3 days or so that I can't seem to do anything right in the late innings. The reason I mention the home team momentum boost, is that I only play exhibition, and after I lose a game I become the away team vs. the CPU until I win and gain home field back. Well needless to say I haven't won in a while and playing on the road this seems to happen often of late. I just would seriously like to know these two questions.

                    1. Is there momentum tied into this game?
                    2. Do the home teams get a boost from tis momentum in late & close games?

i pitch in the yellow and pitch types and location vary. and i am mowing down the hitters through like 6. and my starters energy is still rather good nothing that would require him to be taken out not fatigued. and then once like the 7th inning rolls around or even later 6th even if my starter is not fatigued and has a low pitch count the computer just seems to lock in on pitches no matter what speed or where they are located and the predictability begins

It's mostly likely for folks who want another way of keeping a game close.

Well errors are back to normal, but AI tit for tat run scoring is back. I just lost 8-7 to the twins. The box score looked like this

                          Y 4 0 1 0 1 1 0 0 0 7 15 1
                          T 2 1 0 2 1 1 1 0 x 8 12 0

I bet if I quit out of the game and went back in and intentionally played not to score a lot of runs they AI would not score a lot of runs. I am going to test this right, I will post results.

LOL... These "comeback ai" threads always make me laugh.

If only the developers could program the users to not suck down the stretch... THEN the problem would be solved.

For those of you who think this is just a bunch of isolated games going on, I can understand that. I thought as much as well. But then I began noticing it myself I had a 10 -11 record with the Rays but when I reviewed the scores. Each and every game was decided by one run, and most, I believe in 7 of those games the AI came back in the 7th and 8th innings. Now I've played this game since it was 989 and up until this year I was always on the highest difficulty. This year I started on HOF and quickly went to AllStar, that's fine I don't want an easy game. But this game to me right now feels scripted, I even had my son's friend who is a real gamer come in and try the game on Legends using the same games as I did. here is what happened.

                              LA- 4-11-0
                              Pods-2-6-1 - 1 hr

                              LA- 4-3-0
                              Pods-3-8-0

                              LA- 0 -6-1
                              Pods-1-6-0 - 1 hr

                              Rays- 4-12-1 - 2hrs
                              R.Sox-5-6-2- 3hrs

He was both the Rays and Dodgers

I don't know why more people don't see this, but I feel like those of us who have encountered this during games are being made to feel like its some sort of "user error" on our part. I haven't been a member here for that long but I play and have played in a "Show" league for years so I think I can tell you that I have seen a lot of things in sports gaming too. I wouldn't just dismiss someones thoughts about any problems or strange happenings. The fact that its happening to so many people should send a flag up somewhere.

I wanted to see if the cpu was able to come back in a couple of games where I had the lead in the 8th inning just for sh*ts and giggles.

First game I'm up 3-1 in the top of the 8th Ray's over Padres I won the game 3-1.

Second game I'm up 3-2 top of the 8th Phillies over Ray's won the game 3-2 by turning a double play in the 9th.

Third game I'm up 8-4 Sox over Ray's top of the 7th I won the game 8-4 turned another double play to close it out.

Fourth game I'm up 5-4 Dodgers over Yanks in the 7th I won the game 5-4.

All 4 of these games where on HOF with no slider tweaks I'll try legend next and see what happens.
