re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)
Thank you for your comments Russell, I very much hope that you are right and I will feel differently after 30-40 games. At about an 60-90 minutes per game, that's allot of hours to put in before you get the feel of a game. Most non-sports games these days can be played all the way through start to finish in less than half that time, lol. Not that I wasn't going to be playing this game to death anyway, nor do I want it to be too easy (too much one way or another is not good, unless we're talking about too much fun). I have been a baseball fanatic & student of the game for nearly 30 years now, so I assure you that very little baseball strategy is being overlooked on my part.

You say that like your opinion matters more than others, obviously not everyone is feeling the same way. It's all good, glad you're enjoying the game. We're just trying to figure out how we can too. I appreciate it tremendously that we get to discuss these things directly with someone involved with the making the game."There are only two seasons—winter and baseball." - Bill VeeckComment

I don't know if I have the patience to go 0-30 before I start seeing results.Comment

I started a Test season on Legend (Modified sliders) just to see how it pans out.
(BTW: Rivera is 3-0 in save opportunities right now) and I'm 8-6.
Pitching I'm throwing walks and batting I'm getting walks. From the vids I posted also you can see I'm getting all types of hit balls.
I'm ready to go for real...
Starting my real franchise tonight and will post updates somewhere (Arena maybe)Joshua:

I've played enough of these games to know you will not be going 0-30. You're hitting a bad stretch but things will even out. Someday you will be adjusting the sliders the other way because, all of a sudden, you threw 3 complete game shutouts in a row. For your sake I hope it turns around soon.Comment

I called out Head Coach 09 for the same thing. The CPU would mount incredible comebacks and there were several people calling BS. The devs came in and said there is no comeback but the CPU is programmed to be really aggressive when it's losing. How do you deal with an aggressive batter? Tease them with balls I guess.
With that said, whether or not comeback AI is there I would not expect a dev to come out and admit their game cheats. And I'm not saying anyone is lying but perhaps there is only a couple lead coders who have knowledge of it and will not tell anyone - even the rest of the dev team.
What always gets me is this: Lets say you're a programmer and instructed to put comeback AI in a game. Wouldn't you make it so it was totally random instead of so obvious? I would turn it on at random times - sometimes early in the game, sometimes late, sometimes leave it off, sometimes let the human win big etc. Why would a programmer be so dumb as to always have comeback kick in at the end of the game - or you just scored 3 runs now it's my turn?
Not making accusations here, just rambling.Comment

I've been investigating this conspiracy for a whole week, and I think what is happening here is that the devs specifically ship games to fans that they like without the "comeback code". These are the guys that post that the pitching/batting/Legend level are all too easy. The rest of us poor schlubs get the "cheating" version. I've seen an alien on a grassy knoll beyond the fence in LF in every stadium that shoots a magic bullet filled with super juice into the a** of every CPU player when I'm in the lead late in a game.Last edited by Woodweaver; 03-10-2009, 04:16 PM."Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"Comment

Check out my Slider thread titled "My personal FRANCHISE sliders"
I need all the help I can get trying to figure this junk out and fixing it. I set Pitcher consistency to 8 now, and fielding errors to 1. Posted game stats of first game played since editing to those settings. Look carefully at how I used my bullpen, I went into detail about how i managed the game in the end to hold the lead. box score was:
DET 2 5 0
CLE (me) 4 10 0Comment

Nah Broxton just sucks. I am not mad at the outcome of losing, plus I mean, he lost his control so he put the pitches down the middle even when I was trying to hit the corners.
Thats baseball though, nobody can be perfect on the mound at all times. Sometimes the batters win.Comment
