Re: MLB 09: The Show Patch Released 4/27/09 - Impressions and Discussion Here

Just an update, hope it helps in discovering what the problem is:

I've now played 3 games, post-patch, of a franchise that I'm 122 games into. I haven't had it crash back to XMB once. The last game I played, there was one flashback replay to a Hafner home run in the 4th inning. In the 9th, it went to show a flashback of a Jose Lopez HR from the 7th, but didn't play it. Then, there were no post-game highlights, and the replay vault had replays for all innings, EXCEPT the bottom of the 9th. The replays available in the vault also had the "no players, just a bat" problem.

So, I guess I'm lucky at least that it's not crashing like some others. But, I really like the replay vault and post-game highlights features. I REALLY hope they release a fix for these!

I'm assuming you are a franchise player like me so this issue is irrelevent. But again, maybe he plays online, it would be frustrating to play against someone like that and know you have to throw a strike EVERY time in that situation or you are going to give up a run.

I just don't see how him bringing that up in this thread was such a terrible thing.
Dude, you get defensive way too easily. I never had a problem with him discussing it. And I'm on board with the many people who think Sony has a lot of mistakes they need to fix. I just think it's not fair to bring up scenarios that are outside of the intended use of the game and call them "glitches". IF it does indeed happen on a runner going from 2nd to 3rd, as another poster mentioned, then it's much more valid.

I do agree though. If it's something people can abuse online, then there's a problem. It's just unfortunate that you have to worry about people playing like cheating douchebags online though. But obviously, many do. I guess it would just force you to think an extra step ahead of the cheaters and don't let the count go full. Or if it does, and you plan on walking the guy, just make it intentional.

Im not holding my breath, I know Russell and SCEA have good intentions but its rather uncommon for them to release so many patches and at this point the things being said arent instilling a ton of faith either. When they say they arent sure if they are going to do anything it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, my franchise will crash no matter what I do if I use the patch and while so many seem to think that I should just restart and deal with it, I refuse to do that and shouldnt have to. SCEA could just pull the patch altogether and move on and I would be happier then I am now, I mean what exactly did the patch fix in the first place? Ive read so many conflicting reports that things that were claimed to have been fixed actually werent so whats the loss if the patch just vanished completely? They say they located the reason for the pre-patch franchises crashing and if its as easy as eliminating something from the patch and reposting it then it sure would be nice if we could get some sort of word on it soon.

In the end I would assume that if they released another patch to address issues with this one then it has to go through the certification process all over again which means we are sitting a few weeks out anyways, and thats assuming they are even going to do anything anyways. Now if you couple the certification process with the fact that we are still waiting to find out if they are even going to do anything at all then its obvious this is going to take awhile.

Great points. And exactly how much faith can you have in their QA department at this point??? I mean, half of these issues should have been caught before the game released much less before a patch to supposedly FIX the game was released!!! I guess we the consumers are the QA, and how much flak had Madden and 2K taken when these things happen?

Well as far as another patch being expensive. I have no doubt there is a cost to producing a patch. I also have no doubt that there will be some cost to not producing another patch or at least undoing what this patch broke somehow.

Its a delicate balance. Hard to put a value on Good Will. And right now its getting damaged. But who knows how much that will cost them in the long run in relation to the cost of a patch. Its a business decision. They have to do what they feel makes the most economic sense.

I personally can't see anything that this patch fixed, because the Historical glitch was taken care of in the Roster Updates themselves, correct?

So all the patch has done for me is broke my post game high lites.

But regardless of that, the game was still worth it to me.

I am just going to assume that there won't be another patch, delete 1.06 and start a franchise.

As much as I agree with your comments I would probably leave the whole 2k and EA thing out of this as its only going to lead to comparisons and arguments and this thread doesnt need that at this point, but trust me I agree with what your saying.

In terms of the QA, I used to get really irritated and openly wondered what they were doing that allowed things like this to pass through this process but Ive come to the conclusion that they probably have so many things to look for and are in such a time crunch that its inevitable that some things will leak through and into the market when the game is released. Now things that were in last years game and are still in this years game is really dumbfounding but in a way I guess Im left to assume its an ongoing problem that wont get fixed since I have a real problem believing they forgot about it when they were developing the game.

Like I said, Im sure Russell has good intentions and I honestly dont believe that they are trying to half *** anything for a profit but it is frustrating right now so hopefully an announcement of some sort happens.

Well I just had some weird bugs happen post-patch. New franchise.....announcers simply cut out and all the sound I have is some odd pinging. I tried to do an in-game save, and everything just went black and I had to restart my ps3.

Hope this is a one-time occurrence.

Thats what I did, I deleted 1.06 and kept playing my franchise but there are some really strange things happening. For instance when Im looking at the trade screen the button presses arent working for ****, I mean Im having to press square and triangle over and over just to get it to register. The game isnt running quite as smoothly as it was before either. Its not my controller as I was having zero problems playing COD: WAW last night so that isnt it so Im left to assume this is a by product of either my system wanting to log into sports connect but cant since I dont have the patch or the first patch helped keep things stable and now that I dont have it, it shows.

I have no patches. Just the original state the game came in and havent had any issues at all. . .

Damn, my game won't even load up now after this patch. It's not my PS3...all other games work fine and my disc is clean as a whistle. I have no idea what just happened.

Well I know one thing, if they dont make another patch, this game is going on ebay or to gamestop.

i'll be more careful next time I download a patch that's SUPPOSE to fix problems, not create them.
