Re: Put your "wishlist" things HERE (even though it's too late for The Show '10)
Make it +2!
Even "knowing" the players and teams.....I simply space out and wind up having to do a search on the internet or in one of the prospect guides.
One thing I've also asked for(but may have forgotten to send on my "wishlist" is the ability to mark a player for my scouts to follow(in franchise)
What I mean is let's say I'm interested in trading for a couple of prospects...early in the year. I mark them for scouting and then get weekly reports on their minor league play and the scouts take on those players. Otherwise I sometimes forget who I was looking at(I usually have multiple teams and players I'm looking at). Heck....same goes for MLB guys(especially in the other league) if I'm thinking of a trade.

I just wish the CPU would throw strikes so I can play the game, not just watch it.It is my divine right as a Cowboys fan to EXPECT a Super Bowl win EVERY year!Comment

I'd like to see a 'cheer song' section in custom music. It would be cool to put in songs like "Everybody clap your hands", the "Charge" tune, and the sample of "Day-O" where the crowd responds.

silver540i's biannual camera dream
Every year about this time I make a hopeful wish that the devs have added more cameras. I make the same thread post-release on those wish list threads. I say something about how great the NBA2k series is for having tons of camera options....and how Madden and The Show still lack greatly.
Don't misunderstand, The Show is fantastic and playable with its 3 playable fielding cams, but I personally like seeing more of the stadium, and ball flight. Currently, I don't get much of either of those unless you consider the ball's shadow to be ball flight.
Simply, I would love slightly higher playable cams. A user-defineable cam would be fantastic. They would make the game almost perfect. Once again, hoping against all the odds that this has been updated in 2010.Comment

If SCEA wants my money in 2010...
I have played this game more than I care to admit over the past year, and I now feel strongly about what needs to be done for this game to reach more people and truly achieve superstar status.
In many ways, this game reminds me of an Oscar-winning movie: adored by the critics and the “snobs” but dismissed by the average Joe. I can immediately think of 10 people within my circle of friends who gave up on this franchise because of its inability to tweak the game for a more casual gamer. These people all happened to be huge fans of the MVP series. (I only say that to prove they are sports-gaming fans, not to get into a MVP-Show war.)
I admire what many admire about this game: amazing hitting mechanic, awesome presentation, silky-smooth animations, etc. But here is what I would do to this game to make it more accessible to a casual gamer like myself, while still staying true to baseball, and not effecting the game for those who already love it:
Pitch Meter: When you nail the yellow line, especially when your pitcher is rested and confident, the ball should generally go where it’s supposed to go. I realize things like Control rating come into play, but nothing is more frustrating than when you need to make a big pitch, your palms are sweaty and you're hyped up, and you NAIL that yellow line, and you think: YES, I nailed it, I got out of this jam. And then the pitch hangs smack in the middle of the plate. The CPU crushes it. You turn of PS3, curse a few times, and place The Show back on the shelf and swear to never play it again.
Those who like Classic pitching, fine. Keep it as is. But for those who actually want a little bit of VIDEO GAME in their baseball video game, why not allow the user to have some success when he earns something like nailing the yellow line on the meter? If you want more randomness, you go to classic, simple as that. I’m not suggesting the meter needs to be “too easy”. If I’m a hair off the line, punish me all you want. I just want to be rewarded when I succeed, otherwise it doesn’t feel like I’m in control of anything, so what’s the point of even playing the game?
Hitting: Either expand the hitting window as suggested by others, or allow an option where the CPU only throws strikes. Some people might think this makes the game too easy, but it actually doesn’t. MVP had this option, and it actually made the game quite challenging while allowing for a much faster, and far less frustrating experience for those who don’t have the patience or time to sit through a long game (which is most normal people).
When the CPU only throws strikes, you still have to wait for a pitch in the middle of the plate, but when you’re running out of chances, you do have fight off pitches on the corners. I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but it would be a huge improvement in making the game accessible.
One other minor complaint related to the above point is that sliders have far too subtle of an effect.Last edited by gjb01; 12-22-2009, 05:17 PM.Run or join free baseball sim leagues at pennantchase.com!Comment

Re: Put your "wishlist" things HERE (even though it's too late for The Show '10)
I'd like to see some work done on the "Inside game." I played a game recently (just screwing around) where I hit 12 batters in the head. And...
NONE of them were injured.
There was NO retaliation by the CPU.
I want to see an incident like that have the potential to turn into bean ball which results in warnings by the umpires, batters rushing the mound & rolling in the dirt with the pitchers (thus possible injuries resulting.)
I want to see more injuries when batters get hit. The only time I recall this occuring is when I beaned Ichiro because he was absolutely killing me. I took him out and there was no retaliation by the CPU. In real life, if I knock out your all-star player something bad is going to happen. In The Show you can hit a batter out of frustration but it accomplishes nothing.
Even the best hitters fear getting hit by the ball - especially from dudes that throw 96 MPH with poor control. Pitchers take advantage of that fear, but must show some restraint because they also fear getting their *** kicked by men much bigger than them who have a bat in their hand. In addition, they don't want to expose their teamates to injury by beaning too many batters. And of course a National League pitcher has to step in the box and face the man.
So basically if I'm pitching I want to constantly ask myself should I pitch inside? How far inside should I pitch? Can I even pull it off, how good is my control?
Also, because you cannot move batters around in the box it takes away from the cat & mouse game of batters stepping up and leaning in to pull outside pitches. An aggressive pitcher with balls is going to move him back off the plate. In order for the devs to keep it real, they have to replicate that "fear" on both sides. Does anyone remember Steve Garvey (expecting an inside pitch) take a step back while the pitcher was checking the runner on first and whacking a home run because the pitcher didn't notice he moved? His inside pitch all of a sudden was in Garvey's middle zone. Sneaky little sucker!
Or how about the World Series this year? After 5 Yankees batters were hit by pitches and warnings given in game 4, A.J. Burnett bounced a 94 MPH fastball off Victorino's index finger which messed him up good. It was brilliant because A.J. didn't even get warned for that since Victorino was leaning over the plate trying to bunt. If I remember correctly no more Yankee batters were hit after that.
Instead of rambling I'll let this video do the talking. It's Bob Gibson & Reggie Jackson talking about the inside game and is something The Show should work to replicate...

Re: Put your "wishlist" things HERE (even though it's too late for The Show '10)
I really like the last post.
There is really only one thing that I need, and one thing only. I'm not picky, you see. I need actually ratings shown by using numbers as to how good a player is on a scale of 1-100 when reviewing that player's abilities. Let's say I want to bring in a pinch runner: it is hard to judge who is better based on a meter of how much of the meter a guy has in terms of speed. Now, if I looked at a pinch runner on the bench and looked at his abilities, and I saw that one guy had a rating of say, 54 for speed, another player had a rating of 77, but one guy had a rating of 91, this tells me right now who I should bring in the game. I hope this is easy to understand. Of course, I'm playing 08, but I think I just looked at my brother's 09 game and didn't see numerical ratings, just the meter rating of a player's abilities.
This also helps me to evaluate prospects. If two players are nearly the same, I'd pick the one that had the higher numerical ratings every day of the week. With a meter, it's hard to tell who is marginally better.Comment

Re: Put your "wishlist" things HERE (even though it's too late for The Show '10)
I agree that the beanball aspect should be updated. There should be a chance that the batter would be injured. Moreso when the batter is trying to bunt. This would indeed make a player think twice if they are going to bean a batter while pitching, since the fact that they could lose one of their batters to an injury would play a role. In addition, I think that when getting beaned by a ball the batter's ratings, depending on where they are hit, should be altered. (Like if they got drilled in the knees, their range on the field and their baserunning speed should be affected).
If you drill too many batters in a game, or in a period of time, there should be fines and suspensions given out. This way you risk losing your ace for a start or two, or getting points during your RttS career. Another good thing would be to have the number of batters you hit affect your "reputation", so to speak, so that when you become a free agent, teams may not be so inclined to sign you because they fear their other stars could get hurt due to your propensity to bean players on the other team.
As for fights and brawls breaking out, I don't think we'll ever see it in a game. The MLB and the MLBPA use an ostrich-like reaction to fights in the sport. They think that if they just stick their head in the sand and pretend that they don't happen, they will just go away. As a result, I don't believe they will ever approve of having fights simulated in a baseball game. A good solution would just be to have a cut-away and then a screen comes up stating that "so-and-so has been ejected" and after the game give out fines and/or suspensions. That "might" be something that the MLB/MLBPA could agree with, but it's not something I'm counting on.
Speaking of ejections, I think it would be nice if they could expand on the arguing with umpires possibilities and maybe have that lead to a fine or suspension if the argument got "too intense".Comment
