Re: MLB09: Game won't start without PSNetwork connection?

I really hope we're going to be able to play come Tuesday; if our PS3s are bricked from connecting to the Internet as they appear to be, we may have a problem on our hands in terms of downloading a patch to fix it. Hopefully we could at least download a patch to a USB drive to fix it and we won't have to send them in to Sony for manual repair/replacement.

I thought I was going insane when my time and date got reset to 12/31/1999. Then I read it was PSN doing it. You might want to check your date. I was loading my RTTS to play a little more MLB 10 when I realized my RTTS save had 12/31/1999 as the save date. I was still able to play. Maybe because I already had the game loaded (was watching a repeat of Yanks/Phils CPU/CPU in quickgame) before PSN went down.

IGN's gotta mini article on it too. Same story practically. Issue ought to be resolved eventually but it's funny to read other boards and see people up in arms as if this were a PS3 epidemic.
Yeah, because it's a PS3 PANDEMIC. I can only play MGS4 and the GoW3 demo, which was very short and disappointing.

From what I've read, your PS3 isn't bricked ( as in crippled firmware ). It's just that the PS3 servers aren't working correctly. Right ?

Couldn't you just temporarily create a new user profile that isn't associated with PSN if you wanted to play offline?

From reading a couple other boards it looks like the units affected are fat bodies that are 1.5 years or older.

I never, ever get online to play games. I have no ethernet cable plugged in. I just powered her on, put in the game, and it stays on a black screen. Yet Madden and 2K9 plays fine. I don't understand how a game got corrupted when it's just a physical disc in a machine which isn't connected to anything.

                      Wireless is probably enabled.
                      Try disabling your wireless.

It has nothing to do with online, its an internal system error.

Yes, apparently it has to do with the internal clock/calendar. Some are speculating that for whatever reason the older systems are looking at this as a leap year even though it isn't. Something like that, I am not sure though.

But how does that occur to so many people when a lot of us never signed online?

                              Nope...that won't do it.
                              It's the Y2K bug....10 years too late!

                              I can't get on either(or play games)

Re: MLB09: Game won't start without PSNetwork connection?

From PS3 forum, this is the probable cause
                                GAF post explains it;

                                chubigans from GAF:

                                "Everyone READ THIS PLEASE.

Here's what's going on right now: something with the PS3's internal clock has borked in some pre-slim models. This is not a PSN issue; it has to do with your PS3's clock. This clock is NOT related to the OS clock. It seems to be a leap year bug. Setting your clock ahead will do nothing. All PS3s around the world were affected at the exact same time.

                                Does this affect me?

-If you have a Slim PS3, you're good to go. Continue playing it as normal.
-If you have a "fat" PS3, you may be affected. Some fat PS3s have worked ok, but it seems a good majority have been bugged.

                                What does this bug mean?

-If affected, your date and time has been set to a random past date. This prevents you from signing into PSN, playing any PSN games, or using any DLC. Your trophies will also not display correctly or be able to sync.

                                How do I fix it?

-You can't. Even if you don't sign into PSN, it won't help. This is a hardware issue.

                                So, what do I do?

-Wait 24 hours. Other products that have had similar bugs have corrected themselves after the "bugged" day. On Monday around 8pm central time, all PS3s will automatically correct themselves...maybe.

-If that doesn't work, we'll need a firmware update from Sony, which should be a pretty important priority for them right now.

                                Did I lose my data/themes/etc?

Your save data/games/dlc/themes are fine. They'll be fixed when the PS3 is fixed. Trophies are uncertain right now, but they'll be fine if you've synced them before the PS3 was bugged. Unsynced trophies are an unknown right now.

If I have a bugged PS3, can I still use it?

It's probably not a good idea, as I have no idea what will happen to the trophies you earn during the bugged time. Movies/media will work fine.

So there ya go, my handy FAQ."
