Re: MLB 10: The Show - The Little Things Thread

While batting with the A's, third base manager is sort of staring off into space (probably due to my complete lack of hits the last few innings) when a lazy foul grounds into his leg. He sort of looks down like "eh, whatever" and then continues staring off into space.

Was playing a game on May 5th, when I swung at a ball WAY out of the zone. The announcer: "I know it's Cinco de Mayo, but it looks like he's swinging at a pinata!"

Can't wait to get this game tomorrow. Since they have the pink bats and wristbands for mothers day and the blue for fathers day, anybody know if the players wear the red hats/blue hats with the american flag logo on the fourth of july and memorial day?

Good question. Since that is mandated by MLB, I would assume yes? Although I haven't seen any visual evidence.
Yes, I've been here since 2003. No, I don't post much. I'm too busy playing the games.

I hit a BLOOPER! Straight up Texas Leaguer. Fell between the SS, 2B and CF with the 2B trying to make a dive for it. I'm way glad they expanded the hit variety this year.

On the other side of the coin, last year I hit a lot of grounders up the middle for singles. This year most of them hit the pitcher and rebound to SS, 2B or the pitcher picks it up and I get thrown out at 1st.

First game I played I had a reviewable HR. The umpires gathered and discussed and then the commentators said they are going to have to go to the replay to review. Pretty cool.

Not sure if this is a "little thing" but I never saw it last year.

Halladay was so frazzled...3 walks in an inning plus a wild pitch...he actually threw the ball into CF while trying to pick off my runner at 2nd. Last year, I pretty much remember ever pickoff throw to 2nd going to the bag/fielder. I almost forgot to run to 3rd.....

Has anyone seen a fan actually be able to reach over and get a foul ball? I've seen it attempted a number of times but haven't seen one come up with one yet.

One thing it seems they fixed this year, on a dropped third strike the catcher doesn't automatically tag the batter. He has to throw to first. Last year it the tag would happen all the time, then you'd see that dugout cut scene with the manager yelling at the hitter for not running to first followed by the "Kangaroo court time" comment.

I simmed last night to July 4th, and they do NOT have this in this year.

One thing that really impresses me is the ball on body/glove physics... I was playing my cousin online (which was silky smooth), and there were 3 occasions where the ball either deflected off a body or someones glove:

                      - I hit a liner to RF and he dove early, but the ball landed right under his body and trickled a couple feet away.

                      - On a blooper over the shortstops head, he tried to run under it and make an over-the-shoulder catch but it was just out of reach. You could hear it hit the end of the glove and change paths slightly.

                      - A small dribbler was hit back to the mound and deflected off the rubber and hit me in the ankle as I was trying to field it. Matt V mentioned that it was off my leg, but I didnt realize it until I looked at the replay.

Another nice subtle touch is the players/coaches in the dugout leaning over the railing watching the game.

Could we possibly get a sticky for this thread?

Just played a game in Sportsmans Park. Loney hit a home run which landed on the roof in right field and rolled over, dropped to the ground outside the park.

Manny hit a line drive foul which scattered the Dodgers bullpen down the right field line.

The clock in center field keeps time as the game progresses, and the shadows at home plate gradually work their way toward the mound.

The buildings outside the park are replicas of actual buildings. the large brick building in center field is the old YMCA building and it is still there although no longer used by the YMCA. You can go on google maps and see it, very accurately replicated in the game. If you go there in real life I would recommend staying in your car, very high crime neighborhood these days.

The game is beautiful in these aspects.

One cool thing I've seen...I played a game where the Giants were at Pittsburg and when Freddie Sanchez (ex Pirate) went up for his first at bat, the fans started to cheer for their ex 2nd baseman. He then waved to the crowd before stepping into the box....Pretty Cool! I can't get enough of this game!

I'm sure mentioned already, but here they are anyways:

                              1) Blue accessories on father's day.

                              2) The stat line with score updates, especially how it will say interleague update during interleague play.

Another new one for me....Manager Profile. During my Yanks/Sox game....they showed Francona up close and has his entire background. From player to manager and some stats. Pretty neat addition.
