Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
Why are people still posting potential ratings? I thought it was a real issue, and not SCEA just misrating everybody?
Are they going to take our opinions into consideration even though they know what the problem is?Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
I'm not a huge ratings guy, especially with the potential rating mainly because I'm still a little cloudy on the exact definition of the potential rating. But I think there's a few things we need to keep in consideration here.
Should a player that's in his mid 20's that maybe once was a top prospect but has strung together a few subpar seasons be still considered for a rating such as a B? I've seen many of those be proposed in the previous pages.
Also, what about a player that still may have time to improve..say 26 or 27, but has given us enough of a stat sample size to imply that possibly that player has hit a plateau in his career and while he may of hit 30-35 HRs 2 or 3 years ago, there's more of a chance that player's numbers will regress in the near future.
My point is I think we should just really look at the numbers and not the names of these players when trying to adjust their potential rating, especially before we just handing out B's even A's like crazy. Also remember when this is all said and done and the update is released, in the end, the potential rating is just an opinion. And that means you will not have everyone in agreement with each and every rating. Does that mean the rating is wrong? No, because it is an opinion...plain and simple. This is just another baseball arguement, just like the millions of other baseball arguements that have taken place over the last 100+ years. This is what makes baseball so great.
The one thing we should remember in this whole thing that less than 24 hours after this game was released, the people of SCEA were on here working on solutions to fix some of the bugs and problems with their product. The game is already one of the best sports titles every to be released, the early reviews of the game have been nearly perfect...9-9.5 I've read so far. It's obviously going to turn some big revenue for Sony and be a huge seller. Really, SCEA could've released this title yesterday and that could've been the last we heard of them till Dec or Jan when the talk of MLB 11 starts stirring. And we are a small community of Show players, and sick baseball fans that notice things like potential ratings. The average fan will pop in the Show and fall in love with the game and not even notice or care about things like potential ratings or some of the silly other comments I read on here that people complain about. Yet, these guys with SCEA care about their product and obviously care about you and what you spend your money on. This game is already the best and they continue to go out of their way to make it better. I won't name names but some other companies in the industry better start taking notes on how SCEA does business, because people are sick and tired of spending a lot of money on garbage, when they have the resources to do so much better.
So thank you once again SCEA...you have put yourself in elite status in your industry and others should be envious of your work.Last edited by sectiona21; 03-03-2010, 02:36 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
I have a question,
If a player is obviously not getting any better but he is an All-Star should his potential be A?
Example:
Pujols is the best player in the universe, but he cannot get any better he is obviously going to be a force for the next few years but as he ages he will only slow down (4-5 more yrs?). Should his potential be A? Shouldnt it be a B or mayb even C because althought his overall rating is 99 (or what ever it is) he is only going to get worst not better. Even if he drops 1 point every year for the next 6 yrs he will still be 93 overall...
Is this how it works? Or if your the best your potential will stay at A?Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
Does potential have any effect on your players if you are only playing a single season? I want to start a Season now, without having to wait for the roster update to fix the only potential issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Comment

No, it will only effect you in Franchise because it is how players progress season to season.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
This was the exact question I posted earlier. It seems like people are almost interpreting the potential rating as the overall rating. Not trying to question the poster's above request for A-Gone's potential rating to be increased to A, but he will be 28 this year and has a 3 year average of about .280/35/105. Now at 28 with those type of numbers, should that warrant an increase to an A potential? Like I mentioned before, the actual definition of the Potential Rating I'm still a little unclear of. I guess when I think of an A potential rating, I'm thinking more like a player such as '06 Tulo who was a Top 10 overall pick, was great in the minors while he was there, got his cup of coffee that year with the Rocks, but obviously wasn't up long enough at the end of the season to accumulate much stats...but everyone knows he is going to be a player. I would think in this situation, he would deserve an A potential rating for the '07 game.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
I wouldn't worry too much.
While they are asking for opinions....I'm sure ultimately...they(SCEA) will use their heads in changing these. They realize the original bug caused havac and mayhem...and will want this update to be as good and fair as possible.

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
Quick question...ok take for instance Brian McCann of the Braves. Right now his player potential I believe is a D. I simmed a full season and I believe between seasons he went down 6 overall points. Brian is 26 now so that means at that rate by age 30 he will be a flat out average catcher. Who is to say by age 30 he won't be average? Players peak at different times of their career depending on many factors. Why should he get an A potential just because he was decent the last couple years?
Same goes for David Wright and Jose Reyes. Who knows when these guys will peak and then fall off the face of the Earth. I just don't know if this potential thing is as big a deal as some people are making it out to be. I kind of like some variety thrown into my franchise which would be current guys falling off and new talent coming up. Just a thought.Comment

Hopefully they don't go by what alot of people are putting down. Looks like potential inflation to me. All I see is people increasing potentials, I have yet to see anyone decreasing anyone's potential.Comment

I. CAN'T. WAIT.
I'm getting kind of jealous of all the folks that already have the game. Usually I can get sports games early from a store near my house but The Show kind of snuck up on me.Comment
