Re: Would you like to see new or/both analog options for gameplay in MLB '11?

I thought some sort of analog pitching would have been implemented this year. Why? If you look at the pitching controls section of the 09 demo you can see there's a right thumbstick in the list, so I assumed you guys at SCEA were already experimenting with it.
And to answer the question, yes, I think sports game in general should try to emulate arms motion with the R-stick. IMO the best way to replicate the swing motion is this, props to Blzer.

Yes. would like to see the analog stick to be used for pitching and batting in next years game, keep the meter styled pitching but incorporate it with the left analog stick. would also like to see more camera options even a manual camera option where we can manually
      adjust the distance in/out, left/right, up/down

i'm new to the ps3 but doesn't the PS3 controller have motion control like the WII? if so wonder how that would turn out if that was used for pitching/hitting?

it's great game keep up the good work.

I wouldn't mind trying out something new. Though to be honest, new controls would be somewhere near the bottom of my wish list for '11. But I would definitely be interested to see what you guys can come up with.

I think analog controls to the batting system would be great. Now, I hate MLB 2K10, however I catch myself having fun with it all the time over at my friends house just on the simple fact that batting with the right stick is so nice, it seems so fluid. If the show implemented that in their game, Jeez I would love it.

As long as the analog controls are OPTIONAL

Some (a lot?) of us actually prefer a simpler scheme. It takes long enough to finish a game. How much longer does it take when every single pitch involves an analog windup and gesture?

Personally, there are better uses of the developer's time for MLB 11 than fussing about 2K's love-it-or-hate-it analog control scheme.

I would love to try something different, but please remember that there are a lot of players that don't play online and don't care at all about "balance" in control schemes.

If you are going to introduce changes it would be smart to also include legacy controls. It seems pretty easy to include a setting for online leagues that allows those leagues to force a specific control scheme, while allowing all of us offline players freedom to choose whatever scheme we want.

Although options would be nice for fielding, batting, and pitching, the only one that I feel strongly about is pitching...

The meter is fine but what the analog controls would do is allow you to FOCUS ON THE PITCHER/BATTER interaction...with the meter your eyes are drawn away from the pitcher during his motion to the plate and then once you press "x" the 3rd time your eyes have to "twitch" over to home plate at the last instant...I feel like I am missing out on a big part of the game of baseball...

I agree that complete analog controls are not as critical for next year as say - new commentary and more detailed stats...maybe start out with an analog pitching option for next year rather than for all 3 items...

                  Precisely.

I can see it now.... next Feb-March, we will be told that the game has a "new and exciting" feature .... and then it won't work correctly. Meanwhile, some of the long-standing problems still will not have been corrected.

Love your work, Russell, but this happens with every game, every year. Gotta give the masses something "new and exciting" to drool over and drop the bucks.

Again, I vote No. Put your resources into making the existing game as smooth as possible.

the option would be great, as long as there was still the option to use the current setup.
as mentioned above though, i would prefer a smoother existing game before this was implemented.

Would you like to see new gameplay options for hitting, pitching and fielding for MLB '11? If so why and what would you like to see? Please no smart remarks you want us to take your voices seriously post like it. As always the devil is in the details.

P.S. This will close in about a week and a half
i would like to see analog controls. But i would not want to see the removal of the button interface option. The game should have both options for players.

imo, the button interface is old and stale. analog controls offer a new fresh way to play the game. Analog pitching is the only thing that matters to me. Somthing that makes me feel like i am more a part of the actual pitch delivery

think about the 3 push meter pitching we have now. This is the same concept that was introduced on the the old EA golf games on the genesis

IF they can add options and fix manage mode and franchise problems, then it's a good idea.

If you had a flat tire on your car would you be worried about getting a new radio or would you fix the flat?

First fix the game as it exists, then add stuff.

I vote yes, but as long as it is an option only. It would be great to see what other batting prefences can be used.

I have played The Show for 3 years now PS3 and PSP versions. I downloaded the other games demo on PSN this year. It was cool the analog controls, I was feeling it. That game is just not up to my standards. I would love to see where you guys could take this.

I would like to see an analog option for pitching and throwing with fielders. I'm not a big fan of the analog control for hitting, but i would be up for some tweaking if you guys decided to do so. But like u have said, nothing will be takin away so if we dont like the analog we can always go back to the buttons...
