If it's a hitting issue, like everyone else has said, try and work the count. And try messing with the timing slider. Turning that up 1 or 2 ticks can make a very big deal and you will see very different results.

I hate slumps especially when the whole team turns cold.. For a confidence boost I'll play a quick game using major league all stars against a AA team .. Usually gives me a good boost.

I wasn't like this 2 days ago, but all of a sudden i am...Is there any advice you can give me on this? I am also struggling with pitching with the Yankees Pitchers...

Can anyone tell me if they see way to many ground balls hit very soft that the fielders miss.....they just go under there glove? Would reaction time cure this problem? I am starting to get really frustrated!! Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, I am seeing the ground ball issue too and it's killing me. Routine grounders are routinely missed this year. For me it seems to mostly effect grounders hit to 3B, but I've also seen it happen a lot with the other infielders. I believe this has to do with the fielding animation being "off" from what is actually happening. Some people have claimed that maxing out the reaction time helps this, but I have it all the way up and I'm still seeing it much too often.

As others have said, the key to hitting is patience at the plate and practice (much like reality). Always try to work the count and avoid swinging at bad pitches. If you can get into good hitter's counts (like 2-0 or 3-1) more times than not the next one will be something to drive (not always of course, but quite often). Also, try to identify how the pitcher's different pitches are moving, then if you concentrate on the ball as it comes out of his hand you can start to tell where it will likely end up. Obviously some pitchers are easier to read than others. Top level starters that can throw 4-5 pitches effectively will be harder to decipher than a mid level guy with only 3 pitches in his repertoire.

Are you using the "catcher" view for batting? If so, try "outfield". Seriously. I struggle big time hitting from the default camera. But, with "outfield", I pick up pitches so much better and I also am able to run the counts deep. Try it out if you haven't yet.

I've also recently switched back to pitching with "catcher" view which seemingly allows for a quicker pace than pitching with the "outfield" view.

Re: Really Starting to Struggle with this Game..

I looked for a thread like this because I needed to vent. It's not necessarily that I find this game hard, really, I find it frustrating... I had similar problems with '09. But, for instance, in my first two games, I put up a lot of runs but also got shelled.. but managed to win a couple of them, so I thought, well, at least I can hit. And then, I played 3 games where I had nearly perfect pitching... one game was a 2 hitter, one of those hits was a HR, the other game was a game where I held the CPU to 2 runs, against good offensive teams no less. Yet in both of those games, my offense put up nothing... I lost 1 - 0 in one of them, 2 - 1 in another, 2 - 0 in another. It was frustrating.

So finally, I break out of my hitting slump and I go up 5 - 0 in the first inning, with Becket, my ace, on the mound... well... 2nd inning rolls around and I give up 9 consecutive hits and go down 7 - 5. Finally, I "skip to next inning." So I'm down 7 - 5 taking the mound again, with a new pitcher in, I give up 4 consecutive hits for 2 more runs. I "skip to next inning" again... So far, I've given up 13 consecutive hits... and I honestly can't say that I'm really doing anything differently than in the games that I gave up, say, 7 total hits over 3 games.

Last year, portions of the game felt scripted... and while I don't buy the conspiracy theories, it always FELT scripted. I didn't think that this years necessarily was... but it seems, whenever I hit well, I get SHELLED pitching and whenevr I pitch well, the I can't get a single hit. It's just weird. I still end up winning some of these slug fest games, but it's just odd, I've never had a 9 - 1 game, or really I haven't lost 1 - 9 either... it's either like 12 - 9 or 1 - 0.

There are only a few more frustrating things: the threads and posts where people say "hitting is harder on veteran, easy on Hall of Fame, but pitching is easy on veteran, hard on Hall of fame." It's like ..... why is batting harder on the easiest setting and easier on the hardest setting? I'm not looking for some theories as to why hitting would be easier or harder, like based on how the CPU pitches, that just doesn't make sense to have the hardest difficulty actually be easier than one of the easiest difficulties.

I will try "outfield" and let you know if this makes a difference....

i totally see the ground balls that go under the glove that probably shouldnt. And I definitely feel your frustration. I agree with the scripted 'feeling'. Its like the game wants to say 'ok we want this game to end being 4-3 or a 1 run victory or something, just don't swing at all balls and throw the ball to the correct bases and we'll make sure we get you there'.

I dont feel like me actually playing the game as a user is having a big impact.

Re: Really Starting to Struggle with this Game..

Count me in the crowd thats getting more and more frustrated with this game. It seems like Im never able to get pitching when Im able to hit so Im either blown out or its a tight, 1 run contest. In my most recent game, ****ing Tim Redding actually pitched a complete game 2 hit shutout, unbelievable. I smashed the ball multiple times only to have it be hit right at someone while the CPU would hit perfectly placed pitches down the line for doubles. Im the Dodgers so weve also got the problem with playing in a God awful pitchers park, I cant count the amount of time Ive drilled a ball only to watch it hang in the air for a routine out. I only had 4 hits in my last game and 2 this game. Im just about ready to make this game into a coaster as the more I play the more irritating this damn game becomes.

Ohh, and I cant forget the Umpires who apparently have a strike zone that changes one second to the next. SCEA needs to get the "variable umpires" thing toned down as this is a joke at this point. Next they need to get rid of the stupid *** confidence meter as no pitcher in the entire world loses confidence before hes even thrown a damn pitch, not to mention its completely overdone as well. Lastly, tone down the damn shots down the line by the CPU. Ive never seen so many lasers down the line that neither James Loney nor Mike Lowell can even get a glove on.

To say my frustration level is rising is an understatement, its about as high as it can get and something better turn around quickly or this game is getting sold on ebay.

I totally agree with your frustrations, although i try and look past all the bad, and enjoy it. I don't want to go to 2k10...I'm hoping that i actually get to start my franchise this evening....I am going to turn the reaction time up all the way, and turn solid hits down a tad..maybe that will get rid of some of the lasers down the lines, and fielders missing the ball!

Re: Really Starting to Struggle with this Game..

i ranted before on this topic about how frustrating this game is. I really am disapointed in it. I was under the impression that this game was going to be incredible based on the hype from OS over the last few years, but I never followed the game that closely as I didnt have a PS3. I dont know how much longer I can continue playing this game, I might not get past 20 games in my franchise. It sucks to play a game that takes almost an hour and then have some weird glitchy thing happen EVERY game to either ruin it or nearly ruin it.

I understand baseball is a frustrating game, but I can get frustrated enough by watching the White Sox in real life, I kind of want the videogame im playing to be fun. I play on freaking Rookie hitting and I generally get good timing and good pitches and still only get a handful of hits a game, and its all just kinda random. Ill ground out 5 times in a game on perfect timing and solid or better contact, but then hit a homerun when my swing is off. I kinda want to just start playing the Bigs 2 again because at least I understand in that game that the CPU is trying to screw me over lol but at least it's fun.

When i first started playing the game, i didn't have a problem with batting at all...i was hitting the ball very well...now..it seems that i have grown impatient, and even when i do make contact i can't get base hits....i think i am going to put the level down on veteran, and see how that goes....Possibly try some slider sets.....Again..i really enjoy the game, there are just some things i think they could have did better..i didn't play last years...because i just got a PS3 JUST FOR THIS GAME!..they say that last years was amazing...maybe i will buy last years, and just update the rosters LOL...
