    re: Commentator Discussion Thread

Everybody is just going to pick their own commentators and call them "the best" while we all know they haven't heard everybody in the business.

Either way, I think the game's commentating is fine, they just need new lines. I'm tired of hearing the same thing(s) every year.

I love Vin Scully in real life, but I think he translates as boring in a video game.

If I can't have Uecker I want Brian Anderson.

        Because I'm a homer.

If they use TBS presentation for some reason, I'll get my wish.

Didn't the SCEA basketball game use TNT not long ago? I'd say TBS is in play, then.

How about ditching the three man booth and going with Matt V, Harold Reynolds and Chris Rose from Fox as a sideline/studio host who could also be used for a studio show in franchise. Plus, you could make the commentary flow better with more relevant material.

For instance in a Braves Yankees game where Pettitte is shelled here is Chris Rose's report from the sidelines:

Matt V: Let's go down to Chris Rose at the Yankee dugout and Chris, Andy Pettitte does not have the look of a guy that is satisfied with his performance

Chris: Yeah Matt, the last time Pettitte had this short of an outing was 2007 against (a team) The Yankees aren't throwing in the white flag just yet, but they need to hold the Braves down here and Chip away at this lead before this gets any worse. Back to you Matt.

And for some player specific commentary and dialog between Harold and Matt V.

Matt V: "and the 0-1 to Heyward is low 1-1, and Harold, Jason Heyward made a name for himself in 2010 when he hit a home run in his major league debut on opening day against the Cubs. The future is bright for this young fella."

Harold: Yeah, Matt the "Jey Hey Kid" as they call him back in Atlanta reminds me of a young Fred Mcgriff.

Matt V: "Hold that thought Harold, as that ball is into center for a one out single."

Harold: "As I was saying, he resembles McGriff with his frame and power. He is such an advanced player at such a young age." Braves fans can only hope he will be as good as Fred McGriff was for them in the mid 90s."

That is how the commentary should sound in the show. Any thoughts?

I don't think you could go wrong with John Miller but as long as Joe Morgan doesn't come with him in a package deal.

I do enjoy the SF team as well as the Red Sox. Being a Sox fan, I hate to admit it but I think the Yankees team does a great job.

Any team that includes Buck, Harrelson, Morgan or Sutcliffe and I have bought my last Show game.

Way too nasally (among other small gripes) for my tastes, personally. I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey calling games; call it petty, but I'm partial to my sports announcers having deep "old man" voices. Matt is technically sound, but so is Pam Ward. Give me someone with a pair of balls.

I just hope whatever announcers we get for '11 are actually commentating as if the game was being played in 2011 (or beyond). It's a little odd hearing about the "young catcher Ryan Doumit" or the "youngster Manny Delcarmen" when these guys are in their late 20's. Obviously these soundbites were in the game three or four years ago.

Or how certain players are always referred to by the same epithets. "The resurgent first baseman, Carlos Pena," for example. After hearing that 4 times a game for 40 straight games, I get it, Matt. In 2007 he had a great comeback. That was 3 years ago, get over it.

I do like Matt V though. Maybe if they got the MLB Tonight crew to do it - they have a lot of chemistry and good voices. Matt V, Harold Reynolds, and Al Leiter would be very cool.
