Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

hmmm since i'm new to baseball i would like your opinion on the following moves i did to start my phillies franchise:

    IN: RF V. Guerrero (2y/10Mil)

    IN: 1B Troy Glaus (1y/cheap)

IN: SP Andy Pettitte (1 year/7Mil)

    Trade:
to Giants: RP Ryan Madson/RF Dominic Brown/SP Joe Blanton
    to Phillies: CP Brian Wilson

did it make sense to deal D. Brown? i'm just 7mil from the cap now... does it make sense to have 2 SU (demoted my CP to SU with my new CP on the team)?

but, i love to have wilson on my team now

Those FA Agent moves are fine but i wouldn't give up Brown. Maybe an A pot prospect would've been better
Brian Kelly will have ND back this year.

Arizona State will bounce back this year too.

The Cubs will end the streak next year

Haha very nice. I love the "so and so would never be traded" discussions. One thing I have learned in my 30+ years of watching baseball is that there is no such thing as untouchable. And if there is one position on a team's roster where this holds truer than any other, it is the closer role.

the problem is that the phillies have not many good prospects and moving brown was the only way ... i really love the trade logic in comparison to the other games i know... nhl 10 is great but the trade logic is pathetic

I dont know anything about the seaver trade, that was before my time. The santana trade does not really seem like the same situation. His trade was a deal where the twins were almost certain he wasnt going to sign with them and needed to get something. If the phillies just called up the giants and proposed that trade with all 4 in the deal still under contract for multiple years the giants would laugh and hang up the phone.

Do you honestly think the Giants would turn down Brown and Madson for Brian Wilson?

Listen Wilson has definitely made a name for himself in San Fran and trading away a fan favorite isn't easy.

That being said...coming into this season Brown was seen as a top 5 prospect in all of baseball by everyone. The Phillies refused to trade him for Roy freakin Halladay!

Add to that that Ryan Madson is an exceptional RP.

IMO the Giants would make that move 10 out of 10 times whether they were in 1st place or last at the time and there is zero chance the Phillies would offer it.

I was about to say the same thing. The only thing Wilson has going for him is the iconic beard. Most Giants fans (believe me, I live in Oakland), are new fans since they won the world series and only know who Wilson the beard and Lincecum the freak are.

Brown isnt a top 5 prospect anymore. He hasnt hit a lick since being called up to the majors last year. Hes been exploited in the majors last year, the arizona fall league, and again in spring training this year. Looking at his numbers the only thing he can do right now is rake AAA pitching. will that change? maybe, but I dont see the giants giving up the 2nd best closer in baseball to take a chance on a guy that may be good. This is however just a game and does not factor in common sense logic so trade away if you like LOL.

I just saw the worst trade ever in my RTTS-RF Jay Bruce to the Dodgers for RF Jeff Francoueur in the 2014-15 offseason. Contracts were about the same, so that wasn't an issue. Also, the Dodgers signed Votto to a 1 year, 3.4 million deal.

I have been a staunch supporter of the trades on this game, at least in one team control. I hear 30 team control is a different story. The one thing that bothers me is the off season trades. The logic for the trades seems to be to trade just to trade. Every single off season trade in my franchise has been a one for one positional swap. Pedroia for Utley, Hanley for Jack Wilson, etc. The Yunel Escobar for Alex Gonzalez is one of the only times I can remember a real life one for one trade like that. But in the off season, there are about a dozen such trades. It is what it is.

Brown is indeed still a top prospect. He was injured to start this season and is just getting back into the swing of things in the minors (currently batting .367 with a .429 OBP - granted in a small sample size).

Do you know who else struggled in their first trial run in the majors? Basically everyone not named Braun or Longoria...believe me it is a very long list.

Again...Wilson is a very good pitcher and has made a name for himself in San Fran...but ask any baseball insider anywhere if the Giants would pass on Madson and Brown for him and i'd be shocked if one of them agrees with you.
