Couldn't pass acquiring a solid innings-eating lefty for a guy not in my top 10 or 15 prospects). Maholm threw a CG 5 hit shutout in his first start for us.

Chipper has remained healthy all year and has put up his best season in years (.353, 27 HR, 67 RBI thru July 30), and with us looking like a favorite to represent the NL in the World Series, I'm hesitant to deal him as he's been our best run producer. That says, reality and business also face me. He's 39, aging, and likely to retire within the next 2 years. The Indians offered me a deal of 3B Lonnie Chisenhall (A Pot), SP Drew Pomeranz (A Pot) and SP Alex White (A Pot). I'm still mulling it over, but that may be too much to pass up in getting 3 of the Indians' best prospects, including a replacement for Chipper at third.

    Thoughts?
As a Tribe fan, let me tell you that you'd be robbing the Indians doing this deal if you only give up Chipper. Chisenhall is said to have one of the smoothest swings in baseball, and is a top prospect in the whole league. White is currently pitching in the majors (out 8-12 weeks after his last start ) but he was 2-1, doing great. Pomeranz is another key pitching prospect for the Indians too. Even though you can do what you want, to keep it realistic from an Indians user, I'd never make that deal as the Tribe, give em a little more .

As good of a return that I would be getting, I think I'm going to hold off on this one. Chipper has done too much for the Braves over the past 19 years and is an MVP candidate this season. It would be odd IRL for Atlanta to up and trade him midway through a pennant race, especially considering the way he's been performing for me.

I'm sure you got a 3rd basemen in minors but I'd do trade. Just like
last year he could go down. If he went down Aug. 1 then you'd be screwed
Brian Kelly will have ND back this year.

Arizona State will bounce back this year too.

The Cubs will end the streak next year

In my franchise the Red Sox traded Bobby Jenks and David Ortiz to the White Sox for 2 pitchers. Not sure what their potential is.

Do you really care where I sent this from?

I was the White Sox once on that deal, it is a B with B pot and a C with B pot.

That is just what a Pirate player would do IRL, play mediocre ball for 3-4 years for Pitt, and then when they get traded they play lights out. LOL. Anyway, on to your Chipper trade, from a business and a future standpoint that would be a great trade, but from a loyalty and a win now stance it's a tough call, I don't think you could go wrong either way.

How about this trade from my franny; Yanks send C Jesus Montero and LF Brett Gardner: Astros send LF Carlos Lee. Great move for the Stros IMO, El Caballo has been great, but they get younger and faster in the OF and they get an "A" potential C to compete with Castro or use for trade bait.

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

I really wouldn't see the point of trading Chipper in your situation and with what you'd be getting.

Ok so you get a young prospect to replace him. However, the other 2 prospects are pretty much just adding to what is already a stacked farm system for starting pitchers. When you have Minor, Teheran, Delgado, etc. etc. waiting to come up you are just stacking a position that you really don't need help at.

You'd be losing an MVP candidate (he's playing the same way in my Braves franchise, just not quite the absurd numbers) and what looks to be a keystone in your lineup.

Just think you could always trade him off in the offseason (if he doesn't retire).

I really don't have a young 3B prospect in the minors. If Chipper went down I'd be fine cause Prado can play there every day but losing his bat would obviously hurt.

As someone else already mentioned, adding two more A potential SP doesn't help me all that much considering how much depth and talent I have there in the minors already.

Two words... Trade and Bait. Flip those prospects for a good right handed bat off the bench or a good 4th OF for your WS push. I think that is really what the Bravos need IRL.

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

There's a handful of good prospects that can play 3rd base in the Braves farm.

Hicks (not really young but not old either) can play 3rd, IIRC Salcedo (albeit a long way away) has been projected as being a possible replacement down the road at 3rd. This leaves SS open for Pastronicky for when Gonzalez leaves.

You could also do some positional shifts to accomadate. Moving Prado to 3rd, Lipka can play CF (which is where he is projected to switch to given his tools), and move McClouth to LF.

There's always answers when the Braves are involved.
