Ditto.....i wouldn't trade halladay if i knew i could win year-in year-out....oswalt, i MAYBE trade if it was for a big-time left fielder cause ibanez is on his last legs...phillies have rotation depth so they can afford to lose oswalt if need be

You have brown and pence on the corners for years to come . And there's no playoff team with a young left fielder to give up . And I don't see a team with a young left fielder giving him up for oswalt or halladay if there years from gettin.g to the playoffs let alone a world series.

He said he's using knight's rosters, so he probably doesn't have Pence, unless he manually updated it himself... As for trading Oswalt, if the Mariners or Indians are in contention, they both have a couple of nice young outfielders that you could pick up...

After having a mid-season firesale with my Orioles (who were 17 games out of the wild card at the time), I finished the year 79-83. Still nowhere near the playoffs, but an extremely good start having a successful franchise for years to come.

When I say firesale, it was huge. It started when Colorado offered me a trade for Brian Roberts. He wasn't even on my block, but the return was too much to pass up. I received 2B Jose Lopez (who was decent in his own right), LHP Tyler Matzek, and RHP Greg Reynolds. Both pitchers will be either integral parts of the rotation, or an important chip to bring a real bat in when Baltimore is finally ready to contend.

I proceeded to put as many guys as I thought would bring back any type of talent on the trade block. The following deals were made:

LAA gets: RP Koji Uehara, SP Ryan Berry, SP Parker Bridwell

Orioles get: SP Ervin Santana, 2B Jean Segura

Tough trade for me to pull off, and it took almost 3 weeks of negotiations back and forth. They originally offered Santana and C Hank Conger for SS Manny Machado, Uehara, and Berry. But I honestly had no interest in Conger as I am very happy with Wieters behind the dish. Segura solidified a position of need for me in the future, and I was able to pry him away without giving up the prize of my organization, Machado.

                      SF gets: CP Kevin Gregg

Orioles get: CF Jarrett Parker, CF Gary Brown, 2B Charlie Culberson

Great return for me, and San Fransicso got a closer that had 34 saves just after the All Star Break. Brian Wilson had a season ending injury for them, and they had waived Santiago Casilla earlier in the year (I picked him up on a whim). Parker is obviously the jewel of this deal, but both Brown and Culberson could help down the road.

                      LAD gets: OF Luke Scott

Orioles get: OF Jerry Sands, SP Zach Sands

Again, taking advantage of a team with an injury and a player having a great first half. At the time of the trade, Scott was hitting .327 and had 18 HRs. He immediately stepped in and helped LA win the wild card. He finished the year hitting .313 and had (wow) 44 HRs. They went on the lose to the New York Mets (more on them in one second) in the NLDS.

                      Mets get: RP Mike Gonzalez

Orioles get: OF Cesar Puello, 2B Reese Havens

The Mets, the DAY of the deadline, hit me with this deal. I had aleady pulled off the Segura deal with the Angels, but I knew I wasn't keeping Gonzo in 2012, so I wanted a possible return for him. Puello is a couple years away, but Havens could see some action soon.

                      Houston gets: 1B Derek Lee

                      Orioles get: C Clint Sammons

Not really sure where Houston was coming from, as this was an August waiver deal. They were in the thick of things, but not realistically thinking of making the playoffs. Sammons is not much return, but if anything were to happen to Tatum, he is my next in line for backup catcher at the Major League level.

I couldn't deal Guerrero, even though some teams were interested. I also had Guthrie on the block, and had some deals set up for him, but none of them would have gotten a return good enough to warrant not starting 2012 with my ace.

So, after the wheeling and dealing, here are my 2012 Orioles after just breaking camp (You may want to get The Google ready...it's a young team):

CF Adam Jones (Still don't have a true leadoff hitter since losing Roberts)
                      RF Nick Markakis
                      C Matt Wieters
                      1B Mark Reynolds
                      SS Manny Machado
                      LF Jerry Sands
                      3B Josh Bell
                      DH Jake Fox
                      2B Reese Havens

                      Util Robert Andino
                      C Craig Tatum
                      2B/SS Jean Segura
1B Charles Ono (Drafted in 2011 - He has 60-70 Contact/Power vs. Righties, 75-80 Contact/Power vs Lefties. He also has an F potential, and is 18 years old)

                      RHP Jeremy Guthrie
                      LHP Brian Matusz
                      RHP Ervin Santana
                      LHP Zach Britton
                      RHP Jake Arrieta

                      LR Chris Tillman
                      MR Santiago Casilla
                      MR Mark Hendrickson
                      MR Jeremy Accardo
                      MR Jim Johnson
SU Jensen Lewis (Offseason signing from Cleveland)
CP Dan Cortes (Offseason signing from Seattle)

Machado is ready. I had a hard time deciding whether to put the money out for Hardy to come back, but when I looked into their ratings, Machado was only slightly behind Hardy. Sands is up a lot earlier than I thought, but he had a great spring and forced my hand to keep Reimold in AAA.

The Jensen Lewis and Dan Cortes signings were nail biters. Seattle really wanted to keep Cortes, and kept upping their offer. Every time I put an offer out to Lewis, it seemed like he declined me. I overpaid for both, but I had the budget to spend and I needed someone to help Jim Johnson out in a hollowed out pen.

My AAA rotation is something to behold:

                      Dylan Bundy
                      Tyler Matzek
                      Rick VandenHurk
Jed Bradley (Was not signed by the Brewers. Won a bidding war that lasted 2 weeks of the offseason for him. I am embarrassed to say he is making 3.5 million a year to pitch at AAA right now).
                      Zach Lee

So now, we start the 2012 season at Seattle with their revamped lineup (including Aramis Ramirez at third, Carlos Beltran in RF, and Jason Castro at C).

That's a lot of moves. But there are two that stand out. I don't think the Angela where at all in the right state of mind when the dealt SP Ervin Santana, 2B Jean Segura[/B] let slow.e for an aging CP with the other two guys. The CPU got took for a ride with this one.

And other trade that looks like a fair deal IMO is the San Fran trade because the where looking for bull pen help and Greg fits with them. To me feels like Greg and Wilson are a great one two punch.

YEA bidwell is and UNPROVEN SP with B potential with not and inning of MLB time and so is Ryan Berry. Years away from being in the too 3 of starting 5 in the MLB like Ervin Santana is. He can win NOW. While Segura is and A potential .

So the Angels got the BAD end of this deal. IMO

So just curious how dis you see this trade being fair with the potential of players involved?

He immediately stepped in and helped LA win the wild card. He finished the year hitting .313 and had (wow) 44 HRs. They went on the lose to the New York Mets (more on them in one second) in the NLDS.

                              Mets get: RP Mike Gonzalez

Orioles get: OF Cesar Puello, 2B Reese Havens

The Mets, the DAY of the deadline, hit me with this deal. I had aleady pulled off the Segura deal with the Angels, but I knew I wasn't keeping Gonzo in 2012, so I wanted a possible return for him. Puello is a couple years away, but Havens could see some action soon.

                              Houston gets: 1B Derek Lee

                              Orioles get: C Clint Sammons

Not really sure where Houston was coming from, as this was an August waiver deal. They were in the thick of things, but not realistically thinking of making the playoffs. Sammons is not much return, but if anything were to happen to Tatum, he is my next in line for backup catcher at the Major League level.

I couldn't deal Guerrero, even though some teams were interested. I also had Guthrie on the block, and had some deals set up for him, but none of them would have gotten a return good enough to warrant not starting 2012 with my ace.

So, after the wheeling and dealing, here are my 2012 Orioles after just breaking camp (You may want to get The Google ready...it's a young team):

CF Adam Jones (Still don't have a true leadoff hitter since losing Roberts)
                              RF Nick Markakis
                              C Matt Wieters
                              1B Mark Reynolds
                              SS Manny Machado
                              LF Jerry Sands
                              3B Josh Bell
                              DH Jake Fox
                              2B Reese Havens

                              Util Robert Andino
                              C Craig Tatum
                              2B/SS Jean Segura
1B Charles Ono (Drafted in 2011 - He has 60-70 Contact/Power vs. Righties, 75-80 Contact/Power vs Lefties. He also has an F potential, and is 18 years old)

                              RHP Jeremy Guthrie
                              LHP Brian Matusz
                              RHP Ervin Santana
                              LHP Zach Britton
                              RHP Jake Arrieta

                              LR Chris Tillman
                              MR Santiago Casilla
                              MR Mark Hendrickson
                              MR Jeremy Accardo
                              MR Jim Johnson
SU Jensen Lewis (Offseason signing from Cleveland)
CP Dan Cortes (Offseason signing from Seattle)

Machado is ready. I had a hard time deciding whether to put the money out for Hardy to come back, but when I looked into their ratings, Machado was only slightly behind Hardy. Sands is up a lot earlier than I thought, but he had a great spring and forced my hand to keep Reimold in AAA.

The Jensen Lewis and Dan Cortes signings were nail biters. Seattle really wanted to keep Cortes, and kept upping their offer. Every time I put an offer out to Lewis, it seemed like he declined me. I overpaid for both, but I had the budget to spend and I needed someone to help Jim Johnson out in a hollowed out pen.

My AAA rotation is something to behold:

                              Dylan Bundy
                              Tyler Matzek
                              Rick VandenHurk
Jed Bradley (Was not signed by the Brewers. Won a bidding war that lasted 2 weeks of the offseason for him. I am embarrassed to say he is making 3.5 million a year to pitch at AAA right now).
                              Zach Lee

So now, we start the 2012 season at Seattle with their revamped lineup (including Aramis Ramirez at third, Carlos Beltran in RF, and Jason Castro at C).
I like the Angels trade...U get a young talented #3 SP in Santana who u can leave in the rotation for years to come along with your 2b of the future in Segura....Roberts is a solid baseball player whose been stuck in baseball purgatory all his life and it's a noble act to send him to a team that contends every year...I know that Hardy is putting up decent numbers IRL, but there's no way i woulda traded machado either.....U don't draft a franchise player especially at a premium position (SS) to trade him for ervin santana and conger.....as far as Gregg goes, i've always thought of him as a stopgap closer so I def didn't mind that trade either....throw in the fact that he's incosistent, yeah i woulda done the same....if i'm not mistaken Gary Brown is the top OF prospect in the giants system so u def got something of value in return.....Onto the Luke Scott trade, i know Jerry Sands had a hot start IRL but he soon fizzled out when he was given the regular job in LA....Depending on Luke Scott's contract and production, I woulda kept him.....versatile power bat in a bandbox...obvious match if u ask me...or if u really wanted to unload scott that bad (which i totally understand), I think i coulda gotten somethin better back then Sands.....Mike Gonzalez is ehhhh...big contract, very incosistent a.k.a his best years are farrrrr behind him....I woulda looked at either potential closing prospects or set-up guys because lookin at the O's minor-league system, they don't really have any quality bullpen arms ready to contribute any time soon..and considering that segura is a better-rated prospect then havens, i def think u shudda looked to acquire prospects from another position.....As far as Lee goes, he's still a decent right-handed bat for his age and u coulda def gotten something more then a catcher we prolly all never heard of......but he was viewed as a stopgap player anyway so.....I woulda unloaded Guerrero if it brought me back an *A* and a *B* prospect....Agree with u on Guthrie......he's not shabby but what u see is what u get from him....woulda unloaded him for a couple of *B* prospects if i could've....your 2012 line-up is very top-heavy...After Machado, there's no1 really that scares me...To get Machado's feet wet i would bat him lead-off or 2nd cause 5th is considered a run-prouduction spot and idk if a rookie is ready to take on that load....right from opening day anyway....I agree with u on Jones...he's better suited in the 2 or 3-hole rather then lead-off...he has power and normally i don't like to use a power bat as lead-off especially with how the bottom of ur line-up looks....Your bench is ehhhhhh....not the biggest andino or tatum fans in the world but if they produce, ride with them.....I hope ur 1b prospect pans out cause his stats looked prime for a late-inning pinch-hitting stint which hopefully turns into ur 1b of the future....Now onto ur pitching.....Imo, Guthrie is NOT an ace...he's a #2 at best.....Matusz has the potential to be a staff ace but idk how he did in '11 in ur franchise but I would give him a shot as my ace....the rest of ur rotation looks right....As far as ur bullpen goes, i cannot for the life of me stand mark hendrickson....don't ask why.....If there was any top lefty relievers on the market, i woulda scooped up one of em cause hendrickson does nothing for me.....also, i would prefer to add in a 2nd lefty if possible considering your facing murderer's role every night in the yanks and sox, etc.....I'm interested in how Cortes shakes out.....Didn't think brandon league would turn into a reliable closer but he proved me wrong IRL....hopefully there's something magical about seattle relievers....On paper, ur Triple-A rotation looks scary from top to bottom outside of Van den Hurk (another guy that never enamored me)

So the Angels got the BAD end of this deal. IMO

So just curious how dis you see this trade being fair with the potential of players involved?
                                Segura is a B potential.
