When you get to the 3rd offseason and hit spring training check the FA list. There is where you will see the big name players.

Like I said it is actually better than last year. Something is off.
I checked after every offseason and never saw any issues... if a player sits in FA, does he eventually get "removed" from the game?

All of the big names are still playing in the MLB in 2016. 90% of the top 50 in every stat is a current MLB player with the occasional phenom SCEA player. I don't see any big names missing that hadn't retired due to age (Ryan howard retired at 36 for some odd reason ). And all of the biggest names are still there. King Felix, Lincecum, Greinke, Halladay, Hamels, etc. for pitchers.

There is one big name missing in Pujols but he would be 37 at this point (and this is VIDEO GAME land where he's not demanding 10 years 300 million),

I guess the issue is still there but I just don't care about it that much. Oh well, time to start a franchise instead of worrying about any glitches, it's realistic enough for me...
    What would Doc do?

Are you testing with RTTS? I saw in your earlier post you were going to test it with a created player and sim. Is there a way to check FA list in RTTS?

If you are using franchise did you update your game to 1.08? If you are not getting this maybe we can see what is different and narrow the problem down.

        tabarnes,

I had run a couple of my own sims (I mentioned this in the previous thread) and I was seeing the same thing as you. Most notably Andrew McCutchen and Jason Hayward were the two big guys that went to FA after the first season. And this is while they are still contract renewable and not even eligible for arby yet.

To be honest it is not as bad as last year. It will also be easier to keep up with using 30 team control as well. I am just the type of person that likes to figure out how/why something is broken and try to fix it.

The system is SOOO close......I am just trying to figure out that lynchpin to make a workaround that much easier.

Going to try testing with contracts/trades set to manual and everything else at auto including training

Correcting this problem is simple, but involves 30 team control (which in this case is basically a franchise mode crutch to make the gamer figure out the glitches).

During the off-season put any young player whose contract is finished on to the 40 man roster (you can probably limit it to A and B potential). This will make them eligible for a renewable contract. Sign them to a 2-xx year deal that will allow them to grow in the minor leagues. Once the season begins turn on "Waivers" to manual and remove all these young players from the 40 man (if you want). Once all these players clear waivers, you can turn the waiver thing back to "auto".

Doing this every year will make sure prospects are signed to reasonable contracts until they are ready for arbitration.

DISCLAIMER: This was highly effective in MLB '10 and from what it appears MLB "11 franchise mode hasn't changed any. This fix is tedious but allows you to use training. Add this with budget stretching and franchise mode is perfect.

It would probably be much easier if they just made all players with less than 3 years of major league service automatically be set to renewable contracts every year regardless of 40 man roster status, but it is what it is

Actually you don't have to put them on 40 if you don't want. Just offer a low contract. The cpu then recognizes they are renewable and you can just renew them.

If you put them on the 40 man then the computer will renew them for you (usually only for 1 year), if you'd rather not manually offer a contract to every "A" and "B" prospect.

Slightly different paths to the same end

Nope this is franchise with 1.08 using default rosters. Are you using the defaults? I'm thinking something in the roster update may have screwed up (IE the comment one of the devs made in the big thread that the issue was fixed months ago...). I have everything set to auto including training. I think it might just be a perception thing, I've only really been into baseball since the post-season so I don't know as much about arbitration and all that lingo. But to me, there were no big names that shouldn't have been in free-agency. Older players retire (even if they'd stick around IRL this is a video game and these older guys likely have the "intangibles" that are greatly needed on MLB teams whereas in a video game the only thing that matters is stats), younger guys spend time in the minors or make it to the show if they are good enough (not that many), etc. There's also the loyalty thing which this game does not use at all since that's another "intangible." And IRl there's pressure, anxiety, etc. that many younger guys just can't handle. I'll use my own team as an example. Dominic Brown is one of the highest rated prospects in baseball. Yet he can't seem to produce above the AAA level. He crushes balls all over the place in AAA but barely bats above .200 in MLB. Likely because he's young. Same with Bryce Harper and the nats. He batted .367 I think this spring but they already sent him to single A to develop his general baseball skills and get him mentally prepared for the rigors of 162 games of professional baseball. In the show, he'd get put right on the MLB roster since we don't have to worry about making him mentally prepared.

There are about 5 pretty well-rated SP in FA in 2016 but I've never heard of any of them so they're not BIG names. They might be 5th starters on most teams or put in the BP and with their age likely want more money when there are comparable pitchers in AAA who are younger and will sign for less.

All of the big names I know except for the old fogies like Arod are still around and in the league leaders. I think even Jeter is still around

Rereading your initial post, it seems that I might just not be seeing it. I didn't check contracts for all the younger guys but tbh, I'm not that concerned. The way people made the FA glitch sound is that like my entire team would be filled with all these young A potential players by 2013 with most of the current MLB in FA. I guess it was fixed enough for a casual fan like me but there still seems to be issues for the hardcore fans who understand all the details.

Same conditions I have tested with. Check the fa list after year 3 and grab a screen I'm curious who's there for you.

How do I grab a screen with the PS3? I could just take a pic of my monitor but how did you take yours? Only had the PS3 since Christmas (bought specifically for The Show ) so I don't know these things yet.

I'll have to run another chise since I'm already in 2016.

Press PS button scroll to pictures.down to screen grab. Hit x and PS button again. It will then be saved on the ps3

In my original test just 1. Should I keep it the same? I started one with 30 team control and just assigned my profile to all teams and set all mode options to auto.

EDIT: started with just 1 team control. Maybe the issue is somewhere in the mode options set to auto? Perhaps if you control one team there's a different type of "AI" that works for the others? Just thinking out loud...

Do both and grab screens of fa list after season 3. I honestly can't remember if I ever tested as single franchise user. Possibly a bug with 30 team? Wish I could try but I need to get to bed.
