Re: 2013 Franchise Issue Explained (With Pics)

Maybe someone could make a new thread detailing this workaround and then see if a Mod would lock and sticky it until it gets patched up or leave it if not.

Its a very good community effort to come together and instead of bitch, make it work and drive on.

From what I've read since the patch the CPU does now offer ARB to qualified players. This isn't listed in the patch notes but I did read a few posts about this issue.
      NCAA- GO VOLS
      NBA- GO CELTICS
      MLB- GO BRAVES
      NFL- GO COWBOYS
      NHL- GO PREDATORS
      NASCAR- Chase Elliott
      MLS- LA Galaxy

The cpu always did in year 1 and for certain players. In year 2 and beyond when existing contracts expire they don't. Also contract offers disappear after exclusive period.

I think someone just got excited and jumped the gun.

Mods. Would it be possible to sticky this thread until this issue is patched?

Or someone needs to create a new thread with the workaround I quoted in the OP.

I actually created a thread asking and making a formal request to have the workaround posted in it's own thread to make it easier to find for people. However, my thread was locked in 6 and a half seconds. Not only that but I was redirected back to this 40 some odd page thread.

This site just hasn't been the same as it was a few years ago. It's very frustrating around here. I understand the mods are trying to keep clutter down but I see new threads created everyday that are pretty pointless, but yet I create one that is a LEGITIMATE request for a workaround to have it's own thread so people can easily find it. This isn't just some lame request, it's for a gamebreaking bug that happens after the 3rd year of franchise mode.

                  For gods sakes guys...

Through every offseason I simmed, up to 2014, teams were offering arbitration and renewing correctly. Now, I didn't do any sims before this patch, so it is entirely possible that what I was seeing was already happening, but judging from the comments I have read on here prior to the patch, the logic is definitely improved. There were some younger players that I would see in the FA pool that appeared, but they definitely weren't stars. I browsed several teams' rosters periodically through the offseason process, and each offseason teams were either renewing or arbing everybody on the last day. Teams were also offering somewhat "lowball" offers to players.

Take Jason Heyward for example: First offseason he got an offer of around 6yr 30M or so. He never agreed and was renewed on the final day. The next year he was arb eligible. He was offered a similar deal which he also did not agree to. On the final day to offer arbitration, he was offered. After his arbitration hearing, he was signed to the Braves. In the third offseason, he again was arb eligible and was lowballed something like 1yr 2.5M. Obviously, he declines, and again, arb is offered on the final day, and he ends up w/ 1yr 6.8M after his hearing. This was happening with every team I browsed through. Teams were behaving realistically, and from what I have read, that is definitely an improvement.

Something that I did not check, which is something that could still be happening, is lower players on the roster, such as 18-19yo prospects that aren't on the 40 man, not being renewed. I was attempting to get through offseasons quickly to see if issues arose in 2014, and was not thoroughly checking every team's roster.

No, they were not renewing correctly in a lot of cases. No A potential guys with 0 to 3 yrs of MLB experience should be appearing in the FA pool. Freddie Freeman of the Braves appeared in mine, along with quite a few others.
Though I'm not sure if Freeman was on their 40-man roster or not.

Maybe some players are having okay offers, but some definitely are not.

Are you talking pre or post patch?

I know for a fact Freeman, Heyward, Hanson, Minor, Beachy, Venters, Kimbrel were all renewed for <1M in my sim the first offseason for the Braves.

I am not saying it is completely fixed, I am simply saying that some kind of change occurred if those things were not happening pre-patch.

Post patch, I still had a player with A potential show up in the free agent pool on Dec 3rd in the 1st offseason. He also had a good overall rating, but no face.
I think his name was Bumgarner. I'm not sure if he was a fake player or not. He was definitely not arb. eligible.

Did you control the Braves or was it the CPU?

that was the real Bumgarner and for some reason they have a fake face that looks like him in the game

                              Post patch this morning:

Off season #1: Freddie Freeman, Mitch Moreland, Dustin Ackley, Justin Smoak, Matt Wieters, Logan Morrison, Brent Morel

All of these are position players who are renewable and A-potential prospects, but were FA's after the Dec. 2 deadline.

Maybe this is a personal opinion that no one will agree with, but under no circumstances will their teams let these players walk while still renewable in real life.

FYI: All were type A FA's except Morel and Moreland who were type B. The teams that gave them away did not receive compensation for them (which means the game incorrectly labeled them as type A/B FA's, because you can't offer arbitration to a renewable player). Also, Logan Morrison received a deal of $8+ mil/year for 6 years form the Yankees. He was supposed to be renewable at a couple hundred thousand.

This seems to fit my theory that salaries are exploding way too early for all players, leading to marginally better vets being too expensive for the budgets later on.

                              Addition:

Off season #2: Orioles SCEA created minor leaguer Billy Germano, 1B, 23 years old, no service time. Not listed as a renewable player or arb eligible. Signed a $2.8 mil/year, 4 year contract with Cincinnati (to sit behind Votto and Alonso. Two points: even without MLB service time, players are under control for 6 years, meaning this guy should be renewable, even when they aren't on the 40-man roster (which is why the Rule 5 draft exists) and has a team ever paid a AA or AAA player $2.8 mil a year ($11.2 mil total) in salary? The Strasburgs, Wieters, and Harpers of the world get ridiculous signing bonuses, but they are still subject to the same renewable and arbitration based contracts as the rest of the world.

Very well said. I agree 100%. The CPU needs to "learn" how to lowball players that ask for ridiculous contracts, not release them on Dec. 3rd. (especially guys with A potential)
