Re: Unique ways to get deeper into dynasties?

I'm with the RedSox and I usually play every game with every playoff contending team, because It's good to know their pitchers. It would be hard to face CC or Verlander and other very good pitchers for the first time only in the playoffs.

Other than that, I like to play about 2/3 of regural season games, I don't have a pattern, sometimes I sim 2-3 games, sometimes I play 10 in a row. My problem is, that I'm in love with Fenway Park, I like to play there...

It takes about 3 months to play a season, Im in august now, and I started in december.

Switch it up just like that every game you play. Playing every 6th game seems to be the best option imo. Playing like this and only every 6th game with some played inbetween should get you through multiple seasons.
I kind of like that. Would help drown out those games where innings seem to take forever because I'm either pounding the opposition or they are pounding me.

I have swallowed my pride and have accepted that I cannot play every game and get deep into franchise. A lot of people have said they do the play one game a series idea, and that sounds great. I'll use RTTS as my stat accumulator and the one game a series method as a means to sink my teeth into a franchise.

Part of me still wants that.
But if I want to be able to do what I REALLY want to do...which is get at least 5 years(if not many more this year) into a franchise.....with life and just 1 year to do it....it's an impossibility without simming games.

Yeah, that's kind of the idea. And if you're pitching only with the lead, it's kind cool to have the feeling of pitching in the 6th inning with a 1 run lead that you've had since the 2nd inning cuz your "simmed" offense can't score anymore runs lol. Definitely can build some intensity...and vice versa when you're batting only when losing or something, makes you feel the pressure of having to mount a comeback somehow when your "simmed" pitching isn't doing so well that game.

The fun part is when you score 3 runs to make the game say, 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th inning. Sim pitching only to see they gave up 3 runs in the top half of the 6th inning to erase your scored runs lol. Overall it works pretty well though to get done with those games that just feel so drawn out because you're whoopin them or they are whoopin you.

I love that idea, Irish. How long would you say the average game you play lasts? ~30-40 minutes?

It all depends...if I had to guess an average I'd say about that, 30-40min range.

If you grab the lead in the top half of the 1st, and then pitch only and manage to keep the lead throughout I've finished a game that way in about 20-25min before. It varies but it's a different way to play and kind of fun actually to try and hold on to the lead with pitching only, comeback by batting or pitching only, or try and build your lead by batting only and hope your offense scores runs for you to help.

Then there are of course those games where it's tied most of the game and you're stuck playing both batting and pitching haha

EDIT: The only drawback I've found is if you're simming pitching it's tough to get the right relief pitcher in the game you want. You almost have to warm up your pitchers while batting, and sub them in before you hit the "sim half-inning" option. Cpu does a decent job at relieving pitchers, but I'm not sure if they are warming them up beforehand or not, no way to really tell unless you warm them up yourself and put them in before you sim.

Re: Unique ways to get deeper into dynasties?

I play only the games that a particular starting pitcher (I pick one with no stats / rookie / journeyman / "comeback candidate" / etc.) would play in (30-35 per year) and sim the rest...

That way, my overall stats are solid and I can play into the next year, and possibly the year into that...

That's about all the time I have, so it works for me...

                    Best part?

If I pick a true rookie with no stats, all "his" stats are "my" stats...so I play a few years (hopefully) of his career...

It's like mixing "RTTS (Lite)" with Franchise...

Re: Unique ways to get deeper into dynasties?

Ok, I think I've found the perfect strategy for me to complete at least 6-7 seasons with my Cubs. This is building off a previous post, but I have reworked the numbers to allow myself to play more games during the potentially most important time of the year. Here's what I've got:
3 games against division opponents: 1 home, 2 away
X*3 = Z, where X=number of teams in your division minus your team, where Z= the amount of games played
So if I'm the Cubs, I'd play the 5 other teams 3 teams each. 5*3=15
                      1 games against inter-division (NL East/NL West): 0 home, 1 away
X*1 = Z, where X= number of teams in NL Central/NL East, where Z= number of games played
I'd play the 10 teams in NL east & West each once. 10*1=10
Any 3*games of interleague play:1 home, 2 away
3 games total - you choose which games
                      Add 15+10+3= 28 games before sept 1st.*

As stated in the previous post, these numbers are reworked to finish them all before sept 1, so if a playoff run is possible I can play a few more towards the end of the year. With 31 games left, not including playoffs, after sept 1 my formula will be this: if there is a chance of playoffs, play every third game, if not play every 6th game to vary the pitching matchups.

With all this taken into account, I should play 38-50 games in an outstanding year, and 33 in a down year. And yes, playing with the Cubs, there will likely be many down years.

I make some of my own created players, including myself. I play every game because for baseball, they have to be my stats. But I keep track of these created players and well, that works for me.

I really like the pitching only with the lead, and hitting only when behind idea. I'm definitely incorporating that into my play style this year. I might be able to get more than 5 years into my dynasty with this.

Re: Unique ways to get deeper into dynasties?

This year in MLB 11 I never really got through a deep Franchise because I got to involved in my RTTS. But when I did play my Franchise I usually played the first game of ever series.

Next year however, I see myself setting up a 30 Team Controlled Franchise and doing every roster move that happens in the MLB. Injuries, Trades, Call-Ups/Send-Downs and play one game a day. Actually with the new True Broadcast feature I might find myself watching the most interesting pitching matchup or rivalry games.

Then create another Franchise with the Mets and I read somebody say that they rotate starting pitchers every month. That sounds pretty fun. And of course I'll have to play every game against the Yankees, Phillies and Marlins to see that stadium.

Or maybe do what another person suggested. I create of edit a player to resemble myself or one of my buddies as a pitcher and position player and pitch only his starts.

However I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of time with my Diamond Dynasty Team!!

I play any game I feel like playing. I'll play against sabathia or Bruce Chen. Doesn't matter to me. I can play 50 games one season and none the next. Im 6 yrs into my franchise from end of the year rosters. Good match bad match I don't care.

I pretty much just play whatever game sounds appealing at the time, and then so I can still hold interest I turn all the rookies into those substitute prospects from MVP Baseball 2005. Ricky Fuentes, Johnny Snare, Kristopher Morales, etc. Remember those guys? haha
