Wondering the same as well. Marlins bring in lefty Choate to face righty Ruiz in a one run game in the 7th and leave him in when I pinch hit a righty in Wigginton. I proceeded to hit a 2-run bomb. Choate is a lefty specialist for the most part.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I just bout a PS3 about a month ago and the main purpose was to get this. I was able to spend some time with 11 so I was pretty confident in my choice. But now after getting this game I have to ask myself what the hell took me so long??
I must say I love this game. It is what all sports games should be like this gen and all the other developers should take some notes. This is a very complete and polished game of baseball and it feels great to actually have a baseball game again that I can really really get in to.
I can easily tell the difference between this one and 11 and it is a major upgrade to me. I can easily see how some of you guys was saying that you can't even attempt to play 11 after getting into 12. It really is that much smoother for all the reason that has been touched on.
It is also easy to see the amount of work the devs put into this game and I mustthem. I am somewhat of a sig nut and love to see all the different type of batting stances and pitching motions. Just the upgrades they have made to some players stances stands out as a show of commitment let alone all of the new ones they added. The other game still hasn't updated some players stances or pitching motions that have been wrong for years. The amount of stances they have in the game blows my mind. It is more than I have ever seen in any game of any sport. There is enough stances here to where you wont have to see any starter have the same stance as someone else. I just love that.
I also must give another round offor them leaving the Ken Griffey stance and homerun swing in the game. I was worried they might take it out since he has been retired for a while. Now my RTTS will be that much better.
Overall I am beyond pleased with this purchase and I see why you guys have such a love for this game. Now I must see what these OSFM roster are like and dive deep into this game.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Quick [literally] Impression.
the 10gb install?
Mandatory!
Fast times at ridgemont high with 12.
what a difference in load times?
That might be more noticeable then the ball physics.
speaking of, checking out ball physics now.
edit: so much for checking physics so far, as wainwright i struck out the side, two looking. lol

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
After 2 games, one using the new Dual Shock Controls (Zone Analog and Pulse) and the other using the Move, I can say that I was a lot more impressed playing it than watching gameplay videos. While the commentary is pretty much the same at least in exhibition games (though there are some nice discussions about players) and the graphics are pretty much unchanged from '11 (already a strength,) the True Broadcast Presentation and all of the camera work in the game combined with the new artwork and audio effects just makes this game feel 100X more life like: it's amazing. This is what Madden tried to achieve with all of the camera cuts this past year, but largely failed because the post-play animations were terrible. Yet "The Show" does a great job of capturing facial expression and body language based on the situation. Furthermore, the buttery smooth gameplay animations remind me of the huge jump from NBA 2K10 to 2K11, and it makes the analogue controls feel much more refined and tuned. CPU pitcher logic seems to be better (I can actually work a walk or two now) while the PCI combined with analogue, though difficult, is way more intuitive. Pulse pitching is ok but nothing special, and I might go back to using pitcher analogue because it was already so well done last year. The frame rate is great once you get in game and is another reason why it feels so lifelike, though there are hitches in the menus unfortunately. Load times are much better with the optional install. I am still a little disappointed with crowd audio and some aspects of commentary (because it is the same.) The move controls are difficult, and while they have potential, I don't think they feel as realistic as they could. This is to be expected being a first time effort, but I had higher hopes coming in nonetheless.
Overall, this game definitely heightened the realism a bunch like it usually does, and if you are a fan of the series already you will be in heaven. However, that is seemingly never the issue with The Show. The big question for them, amidst bad sales numbers last year, is their ability to grow from their amazing foundation of authenticity and graphics and build on incorporating an "MLB Today" like mode, stable online performance, and revamping franchise. While nobody can get online yet to test, it seems none of those revolutions happened. A big part of the replayability of this game for me will be whether or not Diamond Dynasty will be a success, so I have to stay tuned.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
there r two different options for HD install.
5gb and 10gb
the 10gb is the only way to go, its night and day between the old Show load times.
i might have been a bit confusing in explaining it.
Matty V started talking bout the Marlins new look unis and while he was they cut away to stanton and then ramirez.
nice
they just need the other two to follow up on it.Comment

Let me translate that, I'm fluent in econoodle...
Quick [literally] Impression. This translates directly to English.
the 10gb install?
Mandatory!
Fast times at ridgemont high with 12. For anyone debating the 10GB install. Do it! It is practically a must! The game [MLB 12] is really really fast!
what a difference in load times? There is a very big difference in load times!
That might be more noticeable then the ball physics. Said load times seem like they are an even bigger feature than the new ball physics!
speaking of, checking out ball physics now. I'm going to check out the aforementioned ball physics now.
edit: so much for checking physics so far, as wainwright i struck out the side, two looking. lol Nevermind, I suck at batting. LOLComment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I've tried out the pulse pitching, but I have to say the analog pitching is where it's at for me. I love the control it gives, it feels similar to the old rock and fire pitching on EA's NCAA game.
I turn off the ball indicator and just go with the meter which seems very well timed to the pitcher's motion. The stick goes forward when the pitcher's arm should be going forward.
I've had success when I should and have been burned with walks and hits when I should. It feels very rewarding and tough.May 6, 1998: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 20 K

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I've only played one game of the show so far, but in that one game I saw enough "little things" that impressed me enough to post a few thoughts on how great of a baseball sim, The Show is. For years, I've wanted a baseball game that was equal parts sim and equal parts videogame. Where you were able to have user control within the parameters of the strictly statistical universe of baseball, sounds like a contradiction and impossible I know. However, this year's version of the show makes it seem possible and in my mind and under the guidelines of what I want from a baseball game, the show delivers.
One "little thing" that left me in awe and I actually had to stop the game for a moment to reflect was when a chopper was hit to Chase Utley by a Marlins player, and the last hop was especially high. Chase gloved it, but I almost overplayed it which would have allowed two runs to score. That's a feeling that I encountered while playing baseball, the relief after knowing you almost misplayed a ball. The new physics engine made this possible and the engine does away with a lot of the canned outcomes I came to expect from The Show in previous versions. Although at times you still see some of the pesky animations like line drives hitting off pitchers, the majority of the time every ground ball, fly ball, hit, whatever have you is unique. Never did you have to worry about miss playing a ball of a wall, this year you do and it makes the game all that more compelling.
I almost did not buy the show this year, but I"m happy I did. I decided to play this year's game in a different way without guess pitch and learning how to hit without aids. I thought I set the hitting interface on timing, and was surprised to see the yellow PCI indicator on during my first game. I didn't think anything of it, and used the indicator. After scoring five runs off Josh Johnson in five innings, and drawing four walks on All-star difficulty(first time ever playing All-star) I thought hey something must be wrong. Something was wrong as it was set to zone hitting, and let me tell you I"m not changing a thing. Zone timed-hitting without aids is what I'm gonna roll with all year. I might change the pitch speed and lower it a little, but man is it fun to hit this year. And what makes it so fun? The fact pitcher's performance is a mystery this year. By that I mean, pitchers are no longer painting the corners as much as they did last year. This year run the range from missing the strikezone completely to hitting their spots. This makes every pitcher and his performance game to game, inning to inning, pitch to pitch unique. Get on a pitcher early, his confidence will waver, and you will reap the benefits. However, if he gets on a roll, as I encountered later in that game against the Marlins as Oviedo and Bell were lights out, you might feel as a hitter completely powerless. It's a completely amazing feat by the developers that as a hitter you can feel as if you are in the zone in the first half of the game, and then feel completely powerless as the opposing pitchers make pitches and force you the hitter to counter.
In regards to pulse pitching, I liked it, but I'm still a fan of analog because I like the extra control and it reminds me of my days as a pitcher.
Sorry about the length of the post, I don't feel the need to post often but this game deserves one. Happy The Show gaming in the year ahead! And expect to see more posts by me as this game I'm sure will continue to impress me.Comment

I want to thank the SCEA guys for the addition of timing hitting in the "Challenge of The Week" makes it easier for me to transition from what ever mode I am playing into that. That said, I still suck and couldn't even break 20,000 just now.Moderator

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Just tried online for 1 inning and to my suprise it was buttery smooth. There is a little hitch when at the plate that really does not effect the batter but again the gameplay was as if I was offline. Thumbs up SCEAThe poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Perhaps it's too soon to give a real judgement or I'm being a prisoner of the moment but SECA has hit it out of the park with this one. Everything is so nice from it's presentation right down to how smooth all the animations are. This is a great game.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
