Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

Well I finally got The Show after what.. 4 days after release? This is by far the longest I waited to get the game because of my paycheck running late. What was bad was that the game also asked me if I wanted the 10gb install, obviously I picked yes and made me wait about 18 minutes (like if almost a whole week of waiting to play wasn't enough!) but now I'm finally in and right off the bat I noticed the amazing new presentations, BALL PHYSICS and a little bit more life to the stadiums. Will be going trophy hunting for the next few hours before trying out Dynasty!

(Most of these impressions I had already when I played it for about 20 minutes at Best Buy)
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.

the most enjoyable MLB SHOW title from the start. usually it takes me a while to get into the SHOW, but this years game feels so different.
Love the pulse pitching. there are games where Ill spend 20 plus minutes to get out of a half of an inning. and still be in the game cause after alll the pitches thrown Id only given up a few hits and a few walks.
In the past that 20 minute inning would have resulted in being down 6+ runs. not this year. sometimes Ive escape without giving up runs or maybe 1-2. now thats a key element of baseball sim that was missing, but now exists.

This is a great game and the Ball Physics are the best edition to this years game. I really hope they improve on Season and Franchise next year. They also DESPERATELY need to provide us with more in-depth stats, both in the Individual Team section(s), League Leaders, and Overall Team Leaders section. Their Runners-In-Scoring-Position simulation Batting Average is .20 to .30 points low per team, which hurts the Overall Runs Scored Per Team. I only own and play this game, no other games. I also spent $1,500.00 on a HDTV just to play this game, so I am not trying to be overly critical or a prick Thanks SCEA and keep improving your already good product.

All I can say is this is one amazing game! The only flaw that bothers me is that the batter routines get cut short after the pitches due to the closeup transition. They'll go into their routines closeup, then once it transitions to the normal batting screen it'll just have them in their stance without continuing the sequence.
Regardless, love the new broadcast presentation!

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

Won my first game with the SF Giants in my NL franchise 4-3. Brandon Belt was 3-4 with a 331 foot HR he just hooked inside the foul pole at Arizona's stadium. I didn't think it stayed fair but it just did. Having a lot of fun. I couldn't find the newspaper article after the game. Was this removed from season mode?

Two things I've noticed lately. When the runner is on 2nd base while you are batting, he seems to warp into a bigger lead as the cpu pitcher pitches. I don't think this happens all the time but I noticed it lately. I use normal pitch delay so maybe this is something that doesn't happen with slow but my games take long enough with pulse pitching. The other thing is the infielders can get the ball out of their gloves for some throws a little too quick at times. I know it's nitpicking but the animations are a little fast for certain plays where you know the player shouldn't be able fire off such a quick throw.

I've seen the cpu outfielders lay out and make a couple really nice plays. I had Delmon Young try to make a shoestring grab while charging a fly ball and not be able to make the play. I've also noticed some nice OF animations where if you take a bad angle your OF will try and stretch for the ball or even fall over and miss it. I've had one of these go in my favour and one not. Pretty cool to see.

              Turn it off then.

I've always been a 360 guy, but I'm strongly considering buying a PS3 strictly for this game.

Is it worth it? Without bias, is it actually worth the $305 total of buying a ps3 and the show '12?

I'm trying to justify both sides.

I have played 4 games today since buying this amazing game this afternoon. I cannot say enough good things about this game. The pulse pitching is awesome, I love it. The fluidity of pitchers arm action and how they grip the ball is way better than last yr. Somebody earlier wrote that this is a super silky polished game that for the most part is leaps and bounds better than any other installment that Sony has put out, period! That is so true. The tv broadcast presentation is so much better than last yr. Go on youtube and watch some of last yrs game to see the difference. The players look very realistic. This is definately the premiere sports game ever made , at least the ones I have seen or played. For those who mentioned problems with the hitting, my games scores were 9-3, 2-1, 5-2, and 1-0.I scored 9 runs my first game as Washington and I am really not a good gamer at all. I do play on veteran which for me is fine right now.I will stop here .I just had to come on here and brag about this game, its not perfect but its oh so good. I love it!

Also, I wanna say that this yrs edition, in my opinion is clearly easier to play than the last couple of yrs.I have bought the last 5 yrs of the show. I think the hitting is easier(on veteran), haven't tried any other difficulty yet, fielding seems easier as well and the pitching is better too.I do like the pulse pitching too.

Agree 100%. Last year I used the plate coverage indicator with strike zones/hot zones off. It felt really comfortable to me..

This year I just turned PCI off. I can't see the ball!! It's too distracting!

                          Another great game otherwise..

Honestly, this was one of the main reasons I sold my 360 and bought the PS3. The other being the ROD on 360 (which I heard has been basically fixed now). I was never really into baseball, but this game got me into the sport.

If you have the cash, and love baseball, I would say it's worth the purchase.

I will say this whatever site SCEA uses for heights and weights they should stop using. Use Baseball reference and you wont go wrong. Its minor no big deal but its two years in a row they have been off.

Groundballs/line drives up the middle still hit the pitcher a ridiculous amount of times.
