Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Opened up my first series of the season against the Rays with my "Budget Yankees". Ended up losing all 3, but they were all 1 run games. Lost on a suicide squeeze, an error on a play at the plate, and a bad 4th inning. SO far Russell Martin is my best hitter, but other than one solo homer, he's a singles hitter. Brandon Laird is my 3rd Baseman, and he can't catch a friggin break. I swear, every ball he hits is either right at someone, or the fielder makes an outstanding play.[CENTER]Follow me on Twitter

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Currently up to today's date with the mets. We're 41-32 and in first place. I've only made a couple minor moves to pick up mike Aviles Sean Rodriguez and wade Davis. My teams biggest surprise has been Daniel Murphy who leads the nl with a 345 avg. Too bad he's on the DL. Also wade Davis and Johan Santana are on the DL but since all of them or the 15 day list we should be able to keep our heads above waterComment

Just wanted to thank everyone for posting their Franchises on this thread I love to read what others are doing. I wanted to contribute but am not sure if this is the correct thread so wanted to ask if I can post my franchise updates using 2011 and fictional rosters from the vault? I am on year two with the White Sox. Let me know if members are interested and if this is the correct location I will post. Thanks everyone.Comment

I don't see why you couldn't post here. You will be talking about the progression with your franchise, and that's what this thread is for. Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Okay well I will start with a recap of 2011. If interesting I will add 2012 Sox preview.
2012 Chicago White Sox
Everything seemed to go wrong in 2011. Our rotation failed to meet expectations and our lineup under produced. By July 1st we were sitting eight games out of the wild card race and twelve behind the first place Royals. It was a difficult decision but we decided we would attempt to ship off some of our aging players and build organizational depth. Essentially what we were looking for was power arms and a combination of plate discipline and speed.
2011 Trades:
Chicago sends Florida 2B Kevin Terry, LF Kurt Sanders and RP Tim Harris. Chicago obtains SP Alex Lopez, CF Orlando Perez and RP Mario Garcia.
This was our biggest move of 2011 and was a difficult one to pull the trigger on. Terry is 28 and has the ability to be a top second baseman in this league. Our scouts rate him as A potential. Sanders is 28 and already a top producer capable of putting up +30 HR a year. Harris is a crafty left handed veteran out of the bullpen and was acquired to help Florida in their playoff push.
The key to the deal for us was Lopez. The hope is that he will develop into a lefty ace. Although not a hard thrower he has tremendous movement on the ball. Perez has speed and is an above average fielder that we hope will develop into our future leadoff hitter. Garcia is 28 and we believe will be a vital part of our bullpen for years to come.
(Looking back this is the kind of trade that costs GM’s their jobs. Sanders turned into a real star and now anchors the Florida lineup while Lopez has been nothing short of terrible for us. Luckily Garcia has exceeded expectations but we traded a star in Sanders for him).
Chicago sends Juan Mesa LHP and Cliff Riggs 1B, DH to Atlanta for Steve Pierce.
Once we decided we were out of it in 2011 this was an easy call. Mesa is reliable but 32 and the 31 year old Riggs was expendable. Both were useful down the stretch for Atlanta. Pierce is raw but he throws hard and we hope will develop into a two or at worst number three starter.
Chicago sends Pedro Mendez SP, Dave Rodgers RF and William Hickman 3B to Arizona for 3B Benny “the Hawk” Nakamura.
Benny is the type of player we look for. He has tremendous plate discipline is an above average fielder and hits from both sides of the plate. Mendez and Rodgers helped Arizona’s playoff push. Hickman was hard to give up. He is only 26 and has the ability to develop into a future producer. However, we reasoned that at best he can develop into a player of Nakamura’s ability.Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
I have thoroughly enjoyed the fictional rosters the past two years, so it's really neat to see you post this! Keep the updates coming!
Thanks, I hope it makes for at least somewhat interesting reading. I love the rosters. I usually make small changes to appearance of players as I play teams. Kind of makes the league my own. They did amazing work on these rosters.Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
I have about a week left in my season and it figures......It looks like I'm going to wind up second in the Wild Card race with my Red Sox.
I guess it's a testament to the game and how much I love it that it doesn't bother me too much......but it is a bit of a bummer knowing that actually should be a playoff spot. Maybe it'll be best if Cleveland passes me for that spot and I wind up 3rd. lol
I'm on pace for 91 wins, but New York, Detroit, LA and Texas are all set to make the playoffs and have all been very good.Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Bengerman's Phillies Franchise (Year Three)
Trade Deadline Update
Notes:
- After a scorching hot start, the Phillies have lost 13 of their last 20 games, and 7 of their last 10.
- The closest contender is Washington, who has quietly put together a very strong season. Atlanta is also hanging in there, and just took 3 out of the last 4 games in a series against the Phils.
- The Marlins (9.5 games back) have won 8 of there last 10, but its hard for me to believe they have the pitching to be any kind of threat.
- The Nats aquired: Phil Hughes, Jordan Zimmerman (traded to the Diamonbacks for Aaron Hill, Trevor Cahill in my first year), and Carlos Quentin.
- The Braves aquired: Aramis Ramirez, James McDonald, and dumped an oft injured Dan Uggla.
- The Phillies aquired: Alexi Ogando. I traded Texas a hot hitting Ian Stewart who has hit 48 HR's over the last two and a half years. He seems to be getting most of his PT in the outfield and in the DH role.
- The Phillies are: 6th in BA (.271), 5th in runs scored (514), 16th in HR's (112), and 27th in Stolen Bases (58).
- I called up Tyson Gillies (fastest player on my entire roster) and have been giving him some spot starts and pinch running him in hopes to give my team some speed. He hast no power, but is getting on base at a decent clip so far (.316 OBP).
- The Phillies are: 1st in K's (942) and 2nd in ERA (3.19).
- Right now, I have four starting pitchers with an ERA of below 4.00. Trevor May sits right above that with a 4.09 ERA.
- If it comes down to it, I wouldn't be scared to replace May with Ogando who certainly has the stuff to be a starter. He has been dominant in his relief role (2.06 ERA, .96 WHIP).
- Michael Young leads the NL in BA (.327), Morse in HR's (24) and RBI (74), Rollins in SB's (16).
- Worley leads starters in ERA (2.22), and WHIP (1.08).

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
In a new franchise I started.. With Miami I swear I can't get it right..
Don't know how to get money it's 2018 and teams have 700-800 million while we have 12 million, barely.. Loans are only temporary fixes.. We were around .500 for the first 4 years and the talent really started to show in AA AAA.. But then suddenly it went south with a 63-99 and a 59-103..
My current lineup in MLB is-
SS- Jose Reyes
CF- Emilio Bonifacio
3B- Hanley Ramirez
RF- Giancarlo Stanton
LF- LoMo
1B- Jason Heyward
2B- Omar Infante
C- John BuckFavorite Teams:
NCAAB- Duke Blue Devils (Defending National Champs!)
NASCAR- Kevin Harvick (Defending Sprint Cup Champ!)
NBA- Los Angeles Clippers
MLB- Miami Marlins
NFL- New York Jets
NCAAF- Duke Blue Devils
NHL- Carolina HurricanesComment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
I cannot pitch with Venters.
Crazy game at Fenway. Fall behind 5-0 in the first two innings. McCann hits a three-run shot and Freeman a two-run blast to tie it at 5 in the 4th. Heyward puts me ahead with a solo shot in the fifth. Red Sox get two in the sixth, but McCann gets another two-run homer and Heyward another solo homer in the 7th to give me a 9-7 lead.
I bring Venters in in the 8th. Three hits - including an Ortiz homer - and three walks later, I'm behind 12-9. Wind up losing by that score.
Venters is now 1-1 with a 6.90 ERA on the season.Comment
