    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

I've made the playoffs and I'm facing Detroit.

Starting the series at home in Baltimore, I split the series with the Tigers, they winning the first game and us winning the second.

    Series shifts to Detroit.

Game 3 had Dylan Bundy, a rookie pitching for us versus Max Scherzer for the Tigers. Game went to 10 innings, with the first 9 tied at 0-0!

I went on to score 5 times in the 10th and almost gave up a run in the bottom half but I stranded a runner at third to win the game.

    Here's the box score:

How does arbitration work? EX- My guys previous salary was something like 7M, he had a worse season last year than one before, so my offer is below 7M, then in arbitration, he gets awarded like 11M.

How is it possible to find out what my player wants?

COOLEST expierince ive had on the Show so far..

I entered the top of the 9th in my A's franchise trailing the Rays 7-5.. They put Fernando Rodney in and I SWEAR his fastball is like 10 mph faster than the reading says.. I get a single up the middle with Brandon Moss thinking "OK that was lucky.." Then Derrick Norris comes up and hits a homer to right center...7-7.. And then our ninth batter "slugger" Cliff Pennington comes up to bat and hits a triple to left center... By now Im thinking.. " You've got to be kidding me.." Man on third no one out.. Jemile Weeks hits a slow roller to JP Howell who has now entered the ball game... I get to aggresive and get Pennington tagged out at home.. Man on first.. One out... I steal Weeks.. Howell throws a 77 mph curveball and even Molina has no chance of throwing Weeks out.. Coco Crisp pops out to Molina.. Two down.. Man on second.. Josh Reddick comes up already 3 for 4 with a homer, triple, and single.. Reddick doubles to right center to complete the cycle!!! 8-7.. Cespedes gets intentionally walked and Inge pops out... Ryan Cook closes the game for us to increase our record to 14-12.... Boss!!!

            Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Fictional White Sox mid season report pitchers:

Fictional White Sox After Break Report July 16:
            Record: 42-51 8.5 games back

            Rotation:

            Eddy Smith R 27 Grade: B-
            8-7 4.01ERA
We counted on Smith to be our ace this season and obviously he has disappointed. I can’t say he has been awful but an ERA over 4.00 is not what we were hoping for. As of now he looks like a 500 pitcher. We need him to be better in the second half.

            William Archer R 31 Grade: C
            5-7 4.99ERA
Archer ended 2011 on a good note and perhaps we expected to much out of him. He was very good in August but has slowed down considerably and looks very much like a bottom of the rotation starter. Let’s hope he can at least give us some solid innings in the second half.

            Pedro Morales R 25 Grade: B
            7-5 3.57ERA
Morales has been fair and continues to show potential problem is that we need him to harness that potential now. He’s still a seven inning 3-4 run pitcher and we need a little better if we are going to compete for a playoff spot.

            Matt Rutledge R 32 Grade: D
            2-7 6.52ERA
We hoped Rutledge’s numbers would look something like Archer’s, obviously they are much worse and he is pitching himself out of the rotation. The only reason I keep sending him out there is because our minor league guys are not ready and Rutledge has put together a couple of good starts coming into the break.

            Alex Lopez L 27 Grade: F
            1-7 4.80ERA
Top of the rotation potential but Lopez has been nothing short of a disaster since coming over last year from Florida. I was forced to send him down to triple A in early July.

            Ryan Pierce R 25 Grade: B+
            1-1 2.07ERA
Pierce came up shortly after we sent Lopez down. I was worried we had rushed him but he has pitched well and keeps us in games. As of now we are closely monitoring his innings and working up his stamina. He gives us some hope for the future and hopefully can get us going after the break.

            Bullpen

            Juan Velazquez L 32 Grade: B
            1-0 4.25ERA
Valazquez has done exactly what we hoped; provide solid innings out of the pen, spot start now and again and get lefties out. One of the few bright spots in our pen.

            Dave Ratliff R 21 Grade: C-
            0-3 5.28ERA
Ratliff was expected to be a huge part of the pen in 2012 and perhaps we placed to many expectations on the 21year old. He struggled in July and we decided to send him down to triple A for more development. He has top stuff and our scouts continue to tell me he has a big time future.

            Riki Nishii L 38 Grade: B-
            1-3 3.43ERA
The Japanese import came out of the gate on fire and was a staple out of the pen until July. He then seemed to implode every time we sent him out. We are going to try and get him back on track by limiting his innings and work to getting out key lefties in the second half.

            Pedro Alverez L 25 Grade C
            5-5 4.37ERA 2SV
We hoped Alverez would be our secret weapon out of the pen. A seventh inning stopper with plus 90 heat and a filthy slider. His control issues have flared up dramatically unfortunately and although he has his share of strike outs when opposing hitters are not whiffing they tend to hit him hard. Much like Nishii we are going to try and limit him somewhat to lefties, perhaps use Velazquez a bit more in late inning situations.

            Marcos Garcia R 28 Grade A
            6-0 2.43ERA
Better then we could have anticipated Garcia has been by far our best arm out of the pen. Our only concern is overuse. We need the other guys to step up so we can really use Garcia for those key outs late in the game.

            Walt Owens R 27 Grade C+
            1-3 3.47ERA
One bad one good outing has been the summary of Owens year. He has top stuff the ability to shut down the eight so what is going wrong? Logically he should have a strong second half.

            Spence Roberson R 27 Grade C-
            1-1 4.33ERA 18SV
Okay we knew there would be a drop from the 50sv and miniscule ERA of 2011 but Roberson has been hit hard in 2012. It’s getting to the point when we are a bit worried sending him out to the mound in the ninth. We need a strong second half if we are going to contend.

            Henry Moore R 31 Grade C+
            1-2 4.59ERA
We brought the veteran Moore up after we sent Ratliff down and he has performed more or less as expected. He gets his share of outs but also gives up his share of hits.

Next up position players then trades.

              Another question adding onto that...

When I release a player, it says that if my guy gets claimed, I won't have to pay anything, but if he doesn't get claimed, I still have to pay a certain part of his contract.....One team claimed one guy I released, but I still had to pay a certain part of his contract.

I've never gotten deep enough to see how the game handles arbitration; though that will change with this year's game. I guess it would make some sense to not see what your player is asking for.

As for the claim, if a team claims a player, that team assumes the contract. So you should be off the hook for the remainder of the contract. But if he's claimed in the middle of the season, you've already paid part of his salary for that season. Maybe that's what the game is taking into account?

My pirates are trailing 5-2 to the cubs.2 outs in bottom of rajai Davis doubles.then gorkys Hernandez goes yard to make it a one run game then Jose tabata hits a double.Ian Desmond then drives him in with a single.the cubs finally bring marmol in. Andrew mccutchen comes up.he hits a no doubter but it hooks foul next pitch he hits a walkoff.we win 7-5.all with two outs.I have no idea where this power surge came but this was good timing

As for my season ... the Astros came to town on a 14-game losing streak. My Braves had won five straight. So, of course, I lose 2-1.

And that's why I love baseball.

I tried to sneak a handful of players through waivers for trades now that I'm into August. Diaz, Wilson and Constanza were all claimed - so I had to pull them back. That cuts down on my trade options.

                        Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

I just started an Astros franchise looking to create a team of young non superstar... kinda like a "moneyball" type team... using the new Scotts Rosters
                        My lineup consists of...
                        1. SS Billy Hamilton S
                        2. 2B Jose Altuve R
                        3. 1B Anthony Rizzo L
                        4. 3B Trevor Plouffe R
                        5. CF Drew Stubbs R
                        6. C Jason Castro L
                        7. LF JD Martinez R
                        8. RF Gerado Parra L
                        9. Pitcher

Bench: C Ryan Lavarnway R, UTIL Emilio Bonifacio S, OF Chris Heisey R, IF Jed Lowrie S, 3B/1B Chris Johnson R

                        Rotation
                        1. Homer Bailey R
                        2. Mike Minor L
                        3. Bud Norris R
                        4. Danny Duffy L
                        5. Jordan Lyles R

Pen: CL Vinnie Pestano R, SU Greg Holland R, SU Tim Collins L, MR Jose Arredondo R, MR Wesley Wright L, MR Wilton Lopez R, LR Dallas Keuchel L

TEAM NOTES - I originally was going to put together a team of "washed up" guys but then acquired Rizzo and thought it would be more fun to get a team of young promising guys who arent all destine for greatness, I wanted a team of pieces with some high prospects(Rizzo, Hamilton) and other good young pieces while keeping a good amount of Astros... Also I wanted a good mixture of power and speed, yet that comes at a price of not so great defense... My best defender is Parra and maybe Stubbs, other than that my teams below average on D, but Id much rather make that up on offense...
PITCHING NOTES - My rotation is young but diverse, I think Bailey can handle being a #1, with Minor struggling IRL Im giving a big chance to, Norris is pretty consistent as a #3, Duffy is a very promising top of the rotation pitcher at #4 and hometown Lyles has great stuff with big upside rounded it out at #5... I really wanted a closer who wasnt a closer IRL but who definatley could be...I really like having Holland and Collins, kind of reminds me of the tag team of Embree and Timlin of the Red Sox... Speaking of Red Sox, my main franchise is with them, as it always is, and I only brought over 2 Sox, Lavarnway (and with Barnes in AAA, I think)...
FINANCE NOTES - My Available Budget right now is about $22 million and I think the Stros overall budget is around $50-60 million... I was thinking of getting a big named player to fill up the remaining budget to make things interesting(maybe a CarGo or another highly paid OF) but thatll be later seen... for now Im gonna see if I can win with this team and most of all have fun...
Ill be shaking this team up a bit later in the season, Im very much active on the trade front, all year...
Lets see who survives! or who I get sick of and trade away, lol...

The Miami Marlins are firmly entrenched in 2nd place in the NL East. However that means little as they are 11 games back of the mighty Phillies.

But they sit 3 games back in the wild card hunt with a 6 weeks left in the season. LA, Arizona are ahead of them tied for the wildcard.

The Marlins just took game one of a 3 game set at home vs the first place Phillies with Josh Johnson pitching 7 strong innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 9. The Marlins win this one 4-2. Ryan Howard wore the sombrero striking out 4 times! 3 vs Johnson and one vs Mike Dunn (who got the hold) Heath Bell notched his 29th save.

A full player/team statistical review is coming tonight (scouts honor) as well as player movement around the league (lot's of trades), standings as well.

The Miami Marlins are fighting hard to slip intothe post season. Stay tuned.

I somehow let the Astros take 2 of 3 from me.

Heading to Philly now for a crucial 3-game series. I'm 63-45 and in first place. The Phils are 3 games back.

Since Venters has struggled so much, I decided to grab another lefty reliever. Fuentes cleared waivers, so I got him from the A's for a couple of minor leaguers. He had 27 saves, but was 0-4 with a 5.85 ERA for Oakland. Signed Xavier Nady too and stashed him in AAA.

I struck out 9 with De La Rosa last night in a big game against CHW last night, winning 5-3! Good to see out studs 'stud-ing!'

38 games left, my Yanks are 1 game up on TOR and 1.5 games up on BOS.

                              My heart is pounding!
