Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
I'm in my 2nd year. Im starting to get confused though because I got called up to the Twins MLB team to start my second year. I started at third base. I reached the all star break, leading the entire MLB team in the three triple crown categories: batting average, HRs, and RBIs. I was hitting .374, had 36 HRs, and 94 RBIs. Then as a rookie, I won the Home Run Derby and hit two HRs in the All Star Game. The next day, the Twins sent me down to AA and traded me to the Padres. I am now currently playing for the Padres' AA team. I just don't understand how the best hitter in the MLB(I also fielded a perfect 1.000 at 3B) gets sent down and traded. This game is starting to piss me off.Comment

This happened to me too with my LF for the Tigers. We won the AA playoffs, and then after Spring Training I was on the MLB bench without playing a single AAA game.NHL: Detroit Red Wings
NFL: Detroit Lions
NCAA: UM Wolverines

Has anyone gotten far enough along in Road to the Show yet to hit the Free Agent market and gotten multiple offers from different teams? If so how long were you in the majors?Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
I got benched, now for the second time, for "stealing without the green light" when it was actually on a called hit-and-run by the 3B coach where the batter swung and missed. It happened it late April. I was hitting .325, had 4 HR, and close to 15 RBI. I was rookie of the year last year, hit .300 with 25 HR and 90 RBI. Meaning the manager essentially benched his best or second best hitter (for three weeks now) over a hit-and-run where the batter didn't make contact so he took as me stealing without the "green light".
Ridiculous and terrible flaw in the game mode.Comment

Per MLB rules, you must have at least six years of major league service to be considered a free agent when your contract ends.Yes, I've been here since 2003. No, I don't post much. I'm too busy playing the games.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
I'm a little late to the party but thought I'd chime in.
After starting with an outfielder and a second baseman that I didn't like the builds for, I decided to make a first baseman. I beefed his strength, power and glove on the initial build and then made sure that I spent the maximum training points on power, contact and durability to make him a beast.
I nearly peed my pants when I saw the Rangers had drafted me. I thought, "Yes! I'm going to dominate in front of my friends and family!"
My first AA at bat, I go deep on the first pitch I see. This had me stoked since my 2B waited nearly two months to go yard for the first time.
I started out on a tear. I homered again in my second AA game, then hit a third home run just a couple of nights later. Through the first month I was batting around .350 with six or seven home runs (it's been nearly two months since I started him).
**Side note, like five of those came against Springfield, haha. I guess it's mental pinned up anger from the World Series.**
So my career is running along smoothly when the AA All-Star break is near. I was excited because it looked like I was going to make the team. Not so fast . . . I was promoted.
But this made me somewhat happy, although frustrated I wouldn't get an ASG appearance. I didn't do so hot in Round Rock, and the team really didn't, either.
My frustration soon grew because a couple of weeks later I was traded to the Royals organization. The dang Royals! I didn't like the thought of going to Omaha but decided I'd give it my best shot.
My average at the end of the season in AAA was something around .215. This was actually good to me because I was below .200 for a good couple of months. The fact that I got it up that high was pleasant. I re-upped with a deal to be the starting 1B in AAA.
The next season was a better one. I started the year with the same "pop" in my bat that I had in Frisco the year before. However, the team was awful. I didn't mind that so much though because I was playing regularly and producing.
Near the All-Star break I'd just mashed my 10th home run with an average of about .270 and was at the top of the AAA 1B All-Star balloting when I got a pleasant surprise. The Padres apparently wanted me . . . really bad.
They shipped off a major league-ready first baseman and relief pitcher (both were currently on the 25 man roster) for me, alone. I took this as a good sign. I even got an e-mail from the new team owner saying I was the missing piece for the AAA team. Looking at the roster, I knew it wouldn't be long before The Show came a-callin'. I was already the top-rated 1B in the organization.
Two nights later, in front of a home crowd in Tuscon I delivered my 11th HR of the year and had moved into the drivers's seat of the All-Star ballot. Life was good.
Then what I expected, happened. San Diego bought my contract and called me up. The kicker is, it was in the middle of Interleague Play and a series with the Rangers.
I made my MLB debut in Arlington in front of all of my friends and family. I went 1-4 with a single for my first Big League hit, a seeing-eye single between 1st and 2nd. My manager said it was "ok." Whatever, I didn't care. It was a dang hit!
Through three games now, (all of which I've started) I'm batting .240 and walking way more than I ever did at the other levels. I'm actually having to tell myself not to swing so much because they will throw a lot of junk for you to chase at the big level.
I plan to update you guys another month or so into the career.

Seeing as I'm not built to be a speed guy, I don't run although I am typically aggressive on the bases.
So far when I've ignored him, there's been no consequence.

Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
Sadly, I don't have a PS3 and can't enjoy this great game, but I busted out my PS2 and the last baseball game I own, MLB06 (The last game before The Show name change, with Vlad Guerrero on the cover).
Made a 3B, and started off with my favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds. Did well enough to end up in AAA ball as a bench player with the Louisville Bats.
Spent the first month and a half plus as a pinch hitter/pinch runner, and doing great at both, before finally becoming the DH and later the starting 3B. Currently batting .390 with 13 HR and 51 RBI thus far, plus 11 SB.Ohio State Buckeyes | Carolina Panthers | Charlotte Hornets | Cincinnati RedsComment

Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
My season in AAA Durham just ended, after a rough early stretch of initially being called up, my team has made the playoffs. We took two out of three from the first place Norfolk Tide in the last and was able to make the cut. I ended the season on a complete tear, a 9 game hitting streak.
Final Stats for the season in 83 games
349 AB
11 HR
53 RBI
.318 AVG
.320 OBP
4 BB
My splits against RHP and LHP are odd. I"m hitting .335 against righties and .260 against LHP and i'm a RHB but I just can't seem to hit lefties well in this game as they tend to use more breaking balls.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
Made a LF and got drafted by the Yankees. Started off well in AA and ended up getting traded to the Mets system. Got promoted to AAA about 3/4 of the way through the season and saw a bit of a performance dip, but still had an impressive season at the plate. Started the next season on the bench up with the Mets, and had a tremendous season pinch hitting and filling in for injured players. Hit .287 18HR's and 55RBI's. The team, however, started off extremely hot but totally tanked in the last two months of the season. They fell all the way from first in the division to dead last.
I was excited heading into season two in the bigs after my impressive rookie showing, and was also named a starter. Well, I had a terrible year compared to the previous one. Just couldn't get anything going all year. Whenever it looked like I might be breaking out a bit I would fall right back into a nasty slump. Ended up picking it up a bit at the end of the year but still only finished hitting .240 12HR's and 35RBI's. Also had some clashes with the managerial staff over stolen bases (which I accidentally attempted to steal).
For season three (still with the Mets) I was jut hoping to get back to where I had been two years earlier. Thankfully, it was a bit of a breakout year that saw me move into the three spot in the order permanently. I finished hitting .306 28HR's 82RBI. Hit a grand slam on my last at bat of the season. The team had a wild year—lots of long winning streaks and losing streaks. At one point we were dead last and 20 games back in the division. Ended up finishing third (by leapfrogging ATL on the final day of the season), and three games behind the division leaders Miami (7 games out of the wildcard). Another big positive has been the development of Ike Davis into one of the best hitters in baseball. He finished third in the NL MVP voting. So season three was a blast with Ike Davis hitting behind me. Our offense really clicked with my guy hitting third and Davis fourth.
Just started season four. Mets finally got Santana off the books, but mostly stood pat in the offseason. Heading into the year I was just hoping that the club would stay hot and Ike Davis wouldn't have a drop off. I was pretty confident I could contribute at the same or a higher level as the year prior. So far, after four games, the offense looks mighty and we're a perfect 4-0—just killing opponents. As much of an RBI machine as I've been early on, Ike Davis has been better.
Really enjoying playing for the Mets now as it looks like the club is turning the corner. It's really fun to be a part of the progression that has taken place.Last edited by bad_philanthropy; 05-16-2012, 10:42 AM.Comment
