Question: After being offered my first big contract - 6 years 60somethin million i believe, it dawned on me.. Why not just rework the contract and play for league minimum? That way, instead of the team you are playing for not being able to afford to put talented players around you, they could afford alot more.
Now, I didn't do that and I don't think I will. I'd rather make things as realistic as possible. For example, I currently play for the White Sox. I don't like the White Sox and the team sucks. We are 12.5 games out of first and the wild card in mid-may (i believe). I didnt have to sign that 6 year deal with them but, because I am a 20 year old rookie I just took the deal they gave me and signed it.
That's how it happens in the bigs (as far back as I can remember. Except maybe JD Drew).
But you better believe when this contract expires during my prime playing years (25 years old), if this team isn't competitive, I will be signing elsewhere.
But yeah, that's just a thought..
If you wanted to play for a good team, I imagine you could reject a big contract a club would offer you and instead play for the league minimum because after all, you dont actually get the 10 million year. The PS3 doesn't spit out $100's nor does it double as an ATM, unfortunately..
