Why do people complain about the gameplay style of random online opponents?

It's in every single game every single year. If you play randoms online you subject yourself to these headaches.

And there is absolutely nothing that developers or anyone else can do about it. The rule here should be only play against people you know or are on a site that you are affiliated

Just finished playing against my friend. The batting lag was unacceptable while everything else was fine. The balls literally disappear or you have to swing so far ahead of where the ball is that pitchers are basically unhittable. I had a perfect game going until the 6th.

They really need to fix the online lag for this game, its been like this since they first introduced online play. My first Diamond Dynasty (love this mode since I enjoy EA's ultimate team) game online was "alright" in terms of lag, but was still noticeable compared to other online games. However, the last 5 games I played were absolutely horrendous (the connection dropped for two games altogether and took me back to the main menu half way through the game).

Why even introduce online play when they have no intention of fixing these lag issues, its even more jarring in a baseball game since timing is very important for batting and pitching. It so frustrating when you have to swing a second or two before you normally would, or pitch release early just because of these lags. Not to mention the annoying connection drops when you already invested 6-7 innings in a game.

Really hope they release a patch to fix these ever-so present lag and disconnect issues, or just scrap the entire online option in the future if they don't bother fixing these jarring issues. It pretty much only there now for "show".

I have no clue how online servers work, but if all those first person shooters can offer lag-free online games then I don't see any reason why a baseball game cannot since most of the background is somewhat stationary.

So ya, in short release a patch to fix these annoying lag issues or scarp the online play option altogether in the future and reduce the price of the game to compensate for it. Guess its back to the familiar RTTS mode for me.

Yeah I've had a blast so far. Yes the first one was laggy on release day but my last 2 have been great.

I hope ppl still realize this is ONLINE. There are going to be online issues whether it be connections or some lag regardless of game...Madden, NBA 2k12 COD, BF3...Just relax, and let it play out.

Well to be fair. On XBOX live I've had maybe 2-3 lag games since Live started. Even when I was beta testing LIVE and playing NBA vs someone in LA it wasnt bad at all like I've had on PSN.
I've had many many many more issues with lag on Sony's online.
With that said I'm happy so far with MLB 12.

I have played 7 games online so far. 5 were completed, 1 was a disconnect and the other was a friendly quit because my opponent ran out of time (I knew when we started that we might not finish). Each and every game has been lag free including the game that got disconnected. So I cannot complain about online with respect to lag. I will say that I feel the timing window is "off", for lack of a better word, for hitting online. I am late on just about everything, especially fastballs. Offline I feel the timing window works fine. Also I feel there is a power outage online. I have hit a total of ONE HR so far. I can't even recall giving up any HRs and if I have it couldn't be more than one or two max. In the first inning of my DD game, which was offline, I hit a HR. Other than the timing window issue and power issue I LOVE this game. It is shear baseball heaven. Once I start my online league, I am confident, that with slider adjustments, the timing window issue and the power issue will be rectified. Oh, and by the way, each and every game was cheese free because I only play people from OS.

Everybody use it and i dont......i havnt in my online preferences but still playing vs player ho has it.

DD online games are Veteran? why is so easy to hit???

Played my first online game today, kinda of a sloppy game but still was able to pull out the win Angels 5 & the Brewers 2 ( my AVE .342 / ERA 2.00 for my first game ) not too bad for a first try. It was alot of fun but nerve racking as I had never played a game of MBL online before, So a pleasant experience, everything was good but seemed to some lag during my batting but not that bad , overall very very good ,looking forward to playing again.

To be honest, i agree about XBL being 100 x better than Sony's service or lackthereof opting to let each individual developer handle online functionality instead of a true service like XBL, it's more MLB The Show than any other PS3 online game. Other online PS3 games are way, way better experiences than MLB The Show.

For those of you who are saying there aren't issues with this game and lag, and just overall quirks in online play with this title are in denial, or don't play many other online games. I LOVE pitching duals more than most, but the offensive numbers in this game are HORRID, across the board (Online). Look at the leaderboards and look at EVERYONES BA, HR's, etc, then look at everyone's ERA's. How can mostly everyone, avid The Show players at that, be batting on the interstate while pitching to the tune of sub 1 ERA's, while playing a large amount of games?

10. Online play is still powered by MySpace servers, apparently: I have given up on online multiplayer in baseball and, evidently everyone else has too. If hitting is the art of timing, and pitching is the art of destroying that timing, then the constant lag you face is Sandy Freaking Koufax. Heading into release for MLB 12: The Show there wasn’t a whole lot of optimism around online play. The series has always struggled to produce a sufficient online experience – it really has been the achilles’ heel that has kept it from reaching its potential beyond just being an excellent product but a complete one at that. So far with MLB 12 online has again proven to be troublesome with no apparent advancements having been made.



Reports of severe lag are dominating consumer discussions with “traffic delays” and disconnects occurring often as well. Some players have even had pitches selected and thrown without making any input on the controller and check swings are almost non-existent unless they weren’t actually intended.


The lag again gives pitching the big advantage as hitters must swing ultra-early to have any chance at making contact. Stats can tell the story there as even the top players on the leaderboards can’t hit or score many runs while across the board ERAs are incredibly low and strikeout numbers abnormally high.

Seriously, i absolutely love this series. I buy baseball, and most other games to play Online mainly, having a great number of relatives and friends who all love to game. While i do love this game, if i'm going to be fair Online play has been terrible in this series, it really is it's achilles heel and far worse than any other game i've played online, XBL or PSN.

Since i game almost exclusively online, i pay 100 bucks for Time Warner wideband internet. I get steady speeds of 50MB down, 5MB up. I have both my consoles hardwired with cat6, and i have put my PS3 in the "DMZ" and have done everything on my end to ensure my connection is as fast and solid as it can be. No other game do i have these kind of issues with.
