interesting thought....I wonder if the Show guys could address this
Both Tvs I have had trouble with are Samsungs as well. Just FYI.

I LOVE the lefty/righty match up benefit that the offset camera shows.

In fact, I think the Catcher Offset is the default camera, just moved over a bit.

Used to use this 2 years ago until I started hitting BTP and then the new Catcher cam.

Still a nice angle - I love the view of the stadiums in this one.

Re: Please tell me there are multiple others who have to lower pitch speed

I'm all the way down to zero on this as well and still have trouble. I did improve some of the hitting sliders. It's still a great game. Going to experiment with the gaming mode on my TV, as was suggested, to see if that makes a difference.

So you are reacting late because what you are seeing on screen actually happened a split second earlier according to your PS3.

Since it only takes about 0.4 seconds for the ball to go from pitchers hand to catchers mit, a split second delay makes it very difficult to hit. I was having this problem until I switched to an Acer 22 inch widescreen computer monitor to get rid of the input lag. My batting averages instantly skyrocketed, as did my walks. I had to bump up the hitting difficulty.

Most TVs have a gaming mode which helps reduce this input lag, and for most games that mode is sufficient. This game, however, is far too time sensitive, and even the game mode doesn't FULLY correct the issue. It's very hard to notice the difference unless you plag on a lagless display, then you realize you have been depriving yourself all this time.

If you want to test this theory, just hook your PS3 up to a CRT television (a tube TV, if you have the right cables to do it) and try it out. CRT displays are lagless.

The best solution to this problem would be for The Show to include a calibration tool on the game disc that helps to correct timing issues with HDTVs. Rock band has this and it works perfectly. I assume they don't do this because it could be exploited in online play, but I'm not 100% sure.
          This post should be stickied.

I played two games yesterday, against the same team and essentially the same pitchers (thanks to the Yankees' three game series against Philidelphia in Spring Training).

One on an SD TV and the other on a Vizio HD TV.

Generally, I try to do this once a year so I can replicate the no lag response time on my HD TV (because this game is so beautiful, I feel like I'm depriving myself in standard definition). Last year, on HOF, the sweet spot was between 2 and 3 (Default being 5) to match most closely my "no lag" experiences.

Yesterday was no different. I raked in game one (SD) and did moderately well in game two (HD). Here was the main difference:

When looking for and getting a fastball on SD, between 90-92 MPH, I was generally within the spectrum of "just early," "good," and "perfect."

On HD, the spectrum shifted to "good," "perfect," and "just late." Actually, there was a ton of "just late's." This eliminated the ability for me to rip these balls down the pull side line. Conclusion - Pitch speed still needs to drop which obviously doesn't suprise me.

I consider myself fortunate that dropping the pitch speed on my Vizio (in Game Mode) can relatively recreate a lag free experience. Thanks to the fact that this game has a timing window. But for others, and other TV's I've seen with normal to major lag, this game would literally be unplayable.

I've asked for a lag calibration system for two years now. I'll make sure to add it to the wishlist for 13.

I absolutely think you're on to something here, and I may mess around with this when I get home tonight. I have a Dell 24" widescreen PC monitor that I should be able to hook it up to for testing.

If I don't calibrate my settings in Rock Band, it's a horrible mess. I miss things where I KNOW I have the timing right. Once I calibrate it, I hold my own on Expert. It definitely feels like a similar situation with MLB.

If you use a newer (made in last 3 or 4 years) HDTV, they often have post-processing features on the TVs that cause a delay in the ouput from the source (you PS3) and what you see on the screen.

Listen to this man. He is 100% accurate on his statement. I also have written a thread on this same exact issue pertaining to 1st person shooters.

I had a Vizio 42" 3D TV, and I was struggling with MLB The Show on it, and my COD games.
I turned on game mode which reduces the TV lag, and it helped some but truly not enough. I then went back to my previous set and I was once again playing well on MLB the show, and my KD that had dropped from 1.72 to 1.40 went right back up to 1.76 and continues to rise.

This does exist and if you're a big time gamer you really need to find out what sets are best for gaming.

Was this confirmed by a developer from SCEA? Thanks in advance.

Is it just me, or did pitch speeds get slower after the patch? I had to actually adjust the pitch speed back to 4 or 5 to get good speeds.

It seems though like adjusting the pitch speed slider doesn't impact changeups, curves, sliders as much as it did fastballs.

I put it on 0 in 2007 and haven't even thought about raising it once...EVER...

I love this game, but of the handful of sports titles I play the heck out of, it's the most challenging / draining...

It's the ONLY way I can get ANY "Perfect" ratings on timing...which is not that often...

Now quality "Contact", that's still killing me...

I currently have it at 0, but after just buying a new Panasonic 50" plasma I think I may need to tick it back up a notch or two.

I had been using a 4 year old 42" Phillips LCD HDTV with horrible input lag... Even on PC mode (no game mode on the TV). Well a few days ago I purchased my new TV after reading numerous reviews in which most Panasonic Plasmas are very highly rated in regards to input lag. So far the difference has been night and day. Also I play MW3 and even with the old TV I had a 1.66 KD Ratio... Can't wait to watch that fly up even higher with my new set

                          Um...yeh, it's just you.

I'm at only one notch and I'm doing well! I play HOF batting and get a good balance of hitting, walks and Ks...even better than last year. I've learned to make quality contact, you have to swing a split-second before you think you should (i.e. being early) as that's actually good contact. I also believe the hot/cold zones mean a considerable amount more than advertised...I wish we could alter those manually.

I forget who's sliders I'm using from here, but I know I have the pitching set to All-Star and pitch speed set to 10. I'm really learning the strike zone. At some pitches I'm swinging at stuff way out of the zone, but other wise I'm doing pretty good, getting solid hits and getting runs.

Does difficulty affect pitch speeds? Like, is allstar default the same as HoF default for pitch speed?
Padgoi, yes, the pitch speed is higher on HoF than on All Star. I think it's true for other difficutlies too but honestly I didn't really pay attention to the entire post since I never play below All Star or above HoF

Yes, the slower pitch speed was confirmed by a developer. This year's default speed is definitely slower than last year's.

I echo the sentiment that it's not really noticeable though, something about the change in the way the pitch moves makes it just as hard to keep up as it was last year. Perhaps that's why they changed it in the first place...

So yeah I lower pitch speed too. I have it on 4 when I play on All-Star, and at 2 when I play on Hall of Fame...

First time in my four years of The Show where I've lowered pitch speed. This year is nasty although I get the feeling it's camera angle that makes it so hard.
