I think the biggest problem people have with zone, is they try to center up on everything. That is the wrong approach. On an outside pitch, I shade toward the center, and aim to get the outside of the barrel on the ball, to naturally go the other way with it. On inside pitches I want to get the inner half of the barrel to pull the ball. Stuff in the middle is the only Tim I try to center up the barrel

Re: What hitting option are you using?
A lot of people think it's just the opposite. Timing is more realistic because it takes the control out of the players hands and lets the player ratings influence the results.Comment

Re: What hitting option are you using?
I use pure analog. I struggled mightily at first and even almost gave up on it, but two tips helped me to stick with it. First, you don't have to pull all the way back on the stick, which made me late on everything. Second, pull back just as the pitcher's arm is coming forward.
I still struggle pulling the stick straight back and pushing straight forward, but I think of it like tinkering with my swing. I can't imagine using any other system.Comment

Re: What hitting option are you using?
I can't even imagine what it must be like to play the MLB The SHow series for the first time with this game (MLB 12 The Show). It must be confusing as all hell. When EA lost the ability to make MLB games back in 2005 I had no choice but to give Sony's MLB series a shot. Learning the game back then was a pretty confusing experience, and that was back when the games were a lot more simple than they are now.
I use Zone with the PCI on. The reason I like Zone is because it is pretty difficult just like real life, but at the same time not too hard or impossible. It gives me realistic results. The thing I stress about the batting in this Baseball series is that it is really all about timing and patience. To be successful with hitting you need to get the timing right, and have the patience to wait for the pitch you're looking for. It hardly ever fails me, if I have patience and look for that one pitch, I will nail it. If it isn't that pitch that I'm looking for then I will ignore it, even if it is in the strike zone. Otherwise I will end up getting out 7 times out of 10. I had to teach myself that patience is so important that it is OK to strike out looking every once in a while.
Been playing like this since MLB 06 The Show on the PS2.Comment

Re: What hitting option are you using?
I always use zone. I am the most effective with this and i like how i am more involved with different sections of the plate while batting.Comment

Re: What hitting option are you using?
After failing with analog last season, I tried zone hitting... Then after seeing this thread, switched to timing. First game, first pitch, Ichiro goes opposite field off Feliz, first pitch. I'm sticking with it for awhile!Comment

I used zone all last year, but I think I am going to go with timing only this year in franchise, and analog for my RttS player.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: What hitting option are you using?
So it basically comes to players that want the batters ratings to play a big part of whether or not they get a hit and players that would rather have their own skill AND the ratings of a player determine whether or not they get a hit.Comment

Re: What hitting option are you using?
Wow. Glad to see most use "timing" like me. I'm really surprised it's not the default method in the game, as I'm sure a lot of new users get frustrated with the game with the other options. To each their own, but to me, there's WAY too much involved with the other methods, and I want to feel the difference between using a great player and an awful player. Timing does that.Comment
