    I'm using zone so far.

Does the stick do anything at all with timing, or is it only buttons?

It moves the Plate coverage indicator(PCI) PCI is always there, but if you turn it off it is invisible. Zone hitting you control the PCI, Timing lets the computer aims the PCI for you.
See my earlier post to help out on aiming swings. You definitely don't want to try to center up on every pitch.

Edit I misread your post, but ill leave the info up anyway as people may be confused on this.

So... does the stick do anything with timing mode?

I'm using pure analog on HOF, and I love it.

Some people get hung up on the stride, but the stride window is so forgiving that as long as you're close it really isn't that big of a factor. Plus, I'm pretty sure there's a stride slider this year, so you could always zero out that slider if it's really giving you trouble.

I'm probably going to give the zone analog a try eventually, but for now, I'm really happy with the pure analog.

Zone-Analog. It definitely has a steep learning curve, but if you keep practicing, you will get it eventually. My first game this year I literally struck out 17 times, but 40 innings, 60 strikeouts, and 4 blowout games later, I've reduced my K%, hit a home run and scored several runs, and even won my most recent game, 4-3 against the Marlins. It's all about practice, and oh what a rewarding mode this is.

I used analog in 11 and got pretty good at it on Veteran. I am really trying to do Zone + Analog this yr on All-Star. I've had mixed results thus far so I am not sure if I will stick with it.

Re: What hitting option are you using?

I tested the different control schemes and found zone to be my preference.
The analog controls were too hard for me as my timing was way off. I don't use the Timing controls because I feel it does not take into account how well a batter knows a specific pitcher. It is a subjective experience that the game doesn't calculate, it only calculates the cold hard stats, the overall ratings.
Example: say a pitcher likes to throw inside and the batter is familiar with this, in real life the batter is likely to swing inside against this pitcher, but with timing in the game the batter guesses outside. With zone since I know the pitcher will most likely throw inside, I can aim the PCI in the general area.

I use the left analog stick for location, but after getting only 18 hits in a 28 inning game, I might be switching to Timing. I just like the control over the swing. *liked*

Zone hitting for me. Provides the most challenge and allows for the most user input. Was thinking about trying zone plus analog but it might be too difficult and unintuitive hitting from the broadcast cam.

Surprised so many people use timing. I'm currently using zone plus analog and I love it. Provides a real challenge.

Timing. And between rookie and Allstar (I have been playing the show since 08) and this year it seems like i can hit the ball, but i have no power. ( i have hit like 3 HR in 4 games with the sox) but i have scored runs just playing small ball.... its really weird that i can hit but not have any power with any player (and most of them go to the edge of the warning track and come so close to homers)

I have moved to Pure Analog and it has really helped me. I feel that I pick the ball up better, and the stride is pretty forgiving. I have been able to draw walks, get some gap shots, homers, bloopers. I am really enjoying it.

I adore that they put in Analog + Zone for us this year, as it will be the only way I will use that option. However, in starting my franchise I'm going with what I know, and that is Zone hitting. I do it for both the PS3 and the Vita versions of the game.

I want to try and use the Move as well, but not as a default option.
